I had booked afternoon tea with my friend the place was cold the cakes were probably shop bought not homemade my friend and I have been to quite a few places for afternoon tea this is the worst. We were not made welcome they gave us marmalade with our scones had to ask for jam and they did not ask if we wanted any more drinks. If you want a nice afternoon tea go elsewhere.
Thank you to the crown hotel for an amazing stay. Would 100% recommend staff very helpful……..we’re over accommodating in helping us with a stay over new year. The management team were there to make sure our stay was comfortable. Again, thank you to the crown hotel.
The Sunday carvery is excellent. It’s a 3 course meal with a free glass of wine. I went with my partner and I had salad to start then the carvery and then cheesecake. The food is excellent and the staff are lovely, friendly and really helpful. I can’t fault the restaurant and would definitely recommend it.
Found out that someone new took over in June 2022z shower was hot unlike previous review. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was not amazing, room was clean. No complain for the price I paid. Bathroom was warm with floor heating ? But room was alittle cold
The bed was comfortable, the pillows were too. The room had a bath, shower, TV, spare bed, good sized kettle, hair dryer. Lovely large sash windows. Very thick curtains. It was clean, and warm. Nothing was too much trouble for them, out TV didn't work, so it was exchanged without any issues. Breakfas was very tasty a full English and eggs Benedict. The evenings meal was curry, which was again very tasty and we tried the Indian sweet also. We couldn't fault the service or the staff. In some places a lick of pain is required. However, in general we felt it was more than good value and hosts were very accommodating. Yes we'd go again. Thankyou.
So I took my friend here with a Groupon voucher for afternoon tea. Firstly we were told to take any table in the cold front reception area. It was Baltic We were asked what drinks and preference to what sandwiches we preferred - off to a good start.... The sandwiches we had three small ones each. One was egg....a fried egg which was odd but still sandwiches were fresh. The cakes and scones were meh but still edible so nothing to complain or rave about. There was no strawberry jam with scones only marmalade. Just one s pot of tea no one offered anymore and staff were few and far between, no one came to ask if we needed anything either. The oddest thing was that there was an event in the back of the hotel so this area was blocked off by big sofas but this was where the guests toilets were too so having to scramble literally over these to go the lol was weird. A man in a suit/manager maybe kept spraying air freshener around the front of the building to the point it was making us cough so we left early.…
We stayed here in October 2022 and was amazed by the front building as it looked lovely. There’s on-site parking, towels provided. We were given two rooms in the lodge and it’s not great. The sheets are clean and the towels are clean but the toilet leaked, the carpets aren’t very clean, beds uncomfortable, and one of the showers lost pressure and wouldn’t heat up. We also got a “continental” breakfast added to the price of the room and well, there was toast, cornflakes, coco pops, oranges, cranberry juice and a bowl of pastries. I wasn’t expecting much but no milk was put out and there was no butter out either. Location is perfect, right in the middle of town, plenty bars and restaurants and 30mins away from Alton towers. This hotel is definitely not 3 stars but for somewhere cheap to stay it’s alright and provides a roof over our heads.…
This hotel is absolutely filthy. There was no hot water for a bath so I tried the shower but only a trickle of cold water came out of it. I ended up having a cold wash. When I raised this issue with a manager and also pointed out the filth behind the toilet and dirty marks on the sink pedestal, he said we can offer you a free complimentary continental breakfast in the morning (which was already in the price that I had paid). I declined as I dread to think what the kitchen was like where food was prepared! We went out for the evening but when we returned we couldn’t get into our room, despite having the key. The manager came and tried to open the door but it wouldn’t open and he tried various keys and half an hour later we eventually got in the room. The following morning we asked for a refund but the manager was unable to do it but gave me an email address (which I sent a complaint to, only to find out it was a false email address) my partner phoned the hotel but was told at £89 you get what you pay for. We were then offered a 30% off our next stay. However, after such a bad experience we will never stay there again!!…
Stayed in 'Deluxe Double Room'. There was literally nothing deluxe about this room. At all. No clear signage to reception. Very cheap, dated decor. When we eventually found the reception desk we then had to go hunting for someone to check us in. Reception staff tried to 'upsell' an upgrade no less than three times...when finally quizzed about what the upgrade would be; no response. The door handle to the room was hanging off on both sides. Severe security risk. The room was very shabby-looking. Worn carpets, dated decor, one of the downlights was held in place with sellotape, constant hum of air-con units right outside the window but no actual air-con in the room (not that I was expecting any), no temperature control in the room, only 2 pillows (would have been nice to have the option of more). The shower was less than a dribble. No bath mats and a tiled bathroom floor. Health & safety risk. Paid for a breakfast on check in. Pleasantly surprised. Good full English breakfast. That was the highlight of the stay. The breakfast. And check-out. Summary: ALWAYS read the reviews before you book somewhere. I wish I had. Complete and utter hovel and a total waste of money. I'd very nearly booked a double lodge room (the cheaper version of the above); I dread to think what that would have been like! …
The bed felt like it was broken, the carpets are disgusting. the draws still had peoples clothes in it. There was a broken picture frame with shard glass sticking out, the TV and mirror both had not been clean hand prints and some kind of lotion/cream over them, look like what I can only describe as Ribena drink stains on the wall, there was something ( not sure ) stuck to the curtains fermenting away. the carpets in the main stairwell have worn away H/S accident waiting to happen? Hotel needs closing down, absolute disgusting sh*thole!!
