We stayed overnight on 28/12/17 en route from Gatwick airport to our home in Devon. Contacted hotel to advise arrival between 930-10pm and as kitchen closed at 9pm upon arrival at 930pm chef had prepared some sandwiches which was most welcome. The room (2) was...More
Very pretty place, ideal spot for local walks and attractions.
Sadly, the bed was too short (hubby is only 6'1") 'and the walls very thin (if you are in room two).....could clearly hear, TV, chatting, snoring etc.
We stayed two nights, had two breakfasts (good...More
We highly recommend a Sunday night stay - felt like we had the place to ourselves and everything was spot on - food fabulous, great staff, lovely rooms. We were made to feel very welcome and at home and it made a perfect birthday getaway.
My wife and I don't often get a weekend to ourselves (we have two small children), so we want something a bit special when we do. The Halfway Bridge fitted the bill for us: the room, with it's floor-to-ceiling view of the countryside, was lovely;...More

Alison Y has a good answer. A day can easily be spent exploring Petworth itself and Petworth House. There are excellent walks through the Capability Brown designed parkland of Petworth House. Midhurst is worth a look, especially Cowdray House and the polo grounds. If you like the idea of watching some top class Polo, tickets are very reasonable. Arundel is a good day out if you take in the well preserved Castle, and the Cathedral city of Chichester is twenty minutes away, with Chichester Harbour about twenty minutes more.
Your own transport is pretty essential for all of these trips.
