Just camped here for one night in campsite south and loved it! Clean, well equiped camp kitchen and ammenities. We are already planning our next getaway! Loved the outdoor bath and bush walks on the door were amazing! Interpretive signage and well marked tracks. What a gem.

Hi Emma, Thanks for camping at Huon Bush Retreats. Looks like you were seeking a nature experience and we provided what you wanted. Yes, the outdoor bath is a real feature. My favorite bath time is sunset. Maintaining the 5km walking track network is quite a challenge so it is always satisfying to receive appreciative feedback. Thanks for your review,...

I can't think of any better place to get away. Modern comfort in the middle of a forest reserve in the Huon less than half an hour from Hobart. Do yourself a favour and have a stay and make sure you sample the fresh local produce.

Thanks for visiting and reviewing Huon Bush Retreats. Do I gather that your title "Always Special" indicates that you have stayed several times? Close to Hobart but a great nature escape. Yes, our privacy, quietness and wildlife is protected at the end of the valley, accessed by 4km of winding gravel road. As you mention, the "fresh local produce" of...

My wife and I stayed at both properties for two nights each and we thoroughly enjoyed both. I read with dismay, the review given by the last person at Buttongrass and can only say, they must be the fussiest people on the planet and probably complain about everything. When we walked into Buttongrass we were amazed at the fabulous facilities...

G'Day Bob and Louise, Thanks for your very thorough review. This will really help future guests to plan their trip for maximum enjoyment. So glad that you enjoyed the tranquility and eco features. As you discovered, southern Tasmania is so much more than a day trip from Hobart and is worthy of a whole Huon Valley Escape itinerary. Maybe we...

After 3 o' clock the retreat became like an oven and we were forced to go elsewhere. Nothing like the relaxing stay we had in mind. The blinds do not stop the relenting sun on all the glass doors and windows. After 8 oclock it became bearable again.

Hi Martin Sorry that you found the cabin too hot. I assume that you are referring to the extreme weather event on 15 March when the temperature at nearby Cape Bruny, reached 31.3C. That was the hottest day for several years. Hottest day previous year was 27.1C on 17 March 2016. As with all well designed architecture, this cabin has...

Campsite was a flat grassy clearing facing the bush. Dirt road in was OK for our low slung car. Site was close to amenities but secluded enough that possums and pademelons came to visit. Lots of birds. Stayed three days and loved it. Had an outdoor bath, walked to summit of Mt Misery on the property. Appreciated the commitment to...

G'Day Susan, Privacy and nature is what Huon Bush Retreats is all about. Looks like that is what you value for your holiday experiences so this was a good match. Glad that you appreciated the indigenous perspective of our interpretive information. Hopefully we will see you again soon. Thanks Paul D

We spent two nights in the 'Streamside Cabin' and it was as advertised, a retreat. Rufous wallabies were all around, and the only noise was the birds and the gentle rain. It made for a brilliant base to explore Southern Tasmania. The cabins are up for a bit of TLC.

Hi Anthony, Yes, we certainly do live up to our advertised "retreat" facilities. As you discovered, Streamside Cabin is the most secluded, but all the other cabins are each in their own individual forest setting. As you say, "...a brilliant base to explore Southern Tasmania.". We are about 1 hour from Hobart, Bruny Island Ferry, Tahune Airwalk and Hastings. Thanks...

In the thick of nature with a pair of Wallaby feeding below the deck and then making their way around the cabin keeping us entertained for quite some time. Birds flying around and then settling in their chosen spot for a discussion before nodding of to sleep. As dark fell a possum came to visit and happily shared a biscuit...

I got here because all hotels in Hobart were full and my travel agent had made a mistake. Arriving in the middle of the night when you are worn out is not the best way of arriving and taking it in. Once I got some rest and reassurance about what was happening, I started seeing the beauty of the place....

The location was amazing, close encounters with the wildlife. The catering was simple but second 2 none. Our only comment was that the accommodation was extremely tired. The direction to guests on house rules and expectations were excessively direct, dictatorial and u unwelcoming.

Hi pacman, Glad that you enjoyed the food, wildlife and beauty of this Tasmanian nature retreat. Unfortunately, due to some disrespectful people who have left the accommodation in a bad state in the past, we find the need to be explicit in what is considered reasonable. As with many things in life, the few spoil it for the many. Thanks...

Hello 66lapwing, Interesting that you rate our property so differently from the vast majority of all visitors. We understand that an eco responsible nature experience does not suit everyone. Our 167 four and five star reviews are from people who seek nature, peace and quiet and chemical free lifestyle, in a carbon positive forest setting. These people love it here....
