We went here to watch the yearly August meteor shower. The hotel grounds were very nice. They had entertainment on the lawn, a folk rock singer who played mellow music while people sat and drank wine and ate. And children played on the lawn. The Hotel has a restaurant and the food is good. All in all a perfect evening....

I had a wonderful week here in this comfortable and cozy hotel. I love how it features local art and photography and the staff and owners were very kind, accommodating and friendly. The beds are comfy and the complementary breakfast is made with homemade care and goodness. There are no TV's in the rooms but the WIFI is excellent and...

This 1907 property is in the tiny town of Dufur, 14 miles south of The Dalles on Highway 97. Rooms are modest but pleasant (some have baths down the hall), and there is no elevator. The public spaces on the ground floor are most comfortable, and breakfast is excellent. Within 100 yards is the collection of old farm equipment and...

The staff and owners here are absolutely amazing! Everyone was very accommodating, helpful, and kind. They have special (amazing) muffins at breakfast and shared the recipe with us. My boyfriend and I stayed here a while ago, and were just reflecting about how wonderful this hotel is.

Our bluegrass group took over the entire hotel for a weekend in March. Many of us had never heard of Dufur, Oregon much less the Historic Balch Hotel, built in 1906. This is an old time hotel with the bathrooms down the hall for many of the rooms. A great breakfast comes with the room. They do serve a delicious...

My wife and I found ourselves at the Balch Hotel in late January after an arduous day. We set out for 4 days of solitude at a lookout tower near Mt Hood. Unfortunately, I took us on a 10+ mile detour with heavy packs and a sled full of provisions. Luckily, we made it back to our car, too exhausted...

Fabulous people that care about their community ! Beautiful and comfortable hotel in a wonderful rural part of Oregon just a hop skip and a jump to the spectacular Mt Hood! Cannot beat this experience! And the owners care enough to keep lines of communication open during times of stress!

We have always enjoyed our stays at the Balch Hotel. It's such a neat, out-of-the way place to visit and we love finding well managed and well-kept historic hotels. The rooms are clean, the food is delicious, and the hosts are people, you'd just like to know. They are young, energetic and offer all kinds of enticing weekend programs throughout...

My wife and I discovered this hotel while on a bike ride 7 years ago. We have stayed there numerous times. Its a great location to stay and recreate, bike, x-country ski, or snow shoe on the E Side of the Mount Hood area. only 20 min from The Dalles, you can enjoy a nice dinner in Hood River or...

We spent two nights at the Balch for New Year's weekend. The building is beautifully restored with lots of period furniture and spectacular chandeliers in the lobby. Our room was cozy with a 1908 bed frame, but super comfy modern mattress. Our hosts were lovely and looked out for our every need, including providing wine glasses, water glasses and a...
