Wanted to stay but when we found out they did not have AC, that was a deal breaker. Looks like a fun place and we did take a look around and ate at one of the restaurants. It was excellent. Wish we could have spent more time.

Thanks for the review Chuck. Portland and surrounding areas have sure seen some warm weather this year. No doubt. It reminds me of the Midwest minus the no AC. Thank you for coming out to the lodge during your time in Oregon it is good to read you enjoyed yourself. It is hard to properly explain to my family back...

Grand is not an adjective one can use to describe this place. It's a building with rooms that share bathrooms except for two rooms with private baths. 10 days ago our family had a reunion . . . they reserved the private bath rooms to 3 people so one family had to scramble to find another place. (They were grateful...

Good day Frances. There are a few items in your review that I would like the opportunity to discuss with you. I’m sorry we were not the place you had planned and hoped for. I would like to have some of you time to hear more about the food service and experiences you had provided to you during your stay....

We decided to stay in the Grand Lodge for a two day anniversary trip. We were very pleased with our experience. The rooms are not large, don't have AC or TVs and you will have to use a common same gender bathroom (this is the European Style description), if any of those are going to be an issue then this...

Yes it is a charming and whimsical. Yes it can be very loud and you will have to share a bathroom. All of this is easily and accurately seen in others reviews. I have stayed at the Grand Lodge at least 5 times in the last couple of years and it is my go to hotel in the portland area....

Ted thank you for all your stays with us. I think you did an excellent job describing the lodge. I too like the lower level rooms. It is nice to read you partake in the offering of the lodge. Very polite service and typically great food with an eclectic menu to choose from, the Grand Lodge is no exception. Yes, I may be glowing after crushing my husband in a shuffleboard match in the Doctor's Office in the basement area, but the outdoor seating, Pat's Den and the other places for a bite to eat and/or drink let alone...

Paula thank you for the review. You are right it has been hot lately with little breaks from the heat. It can get warm here at the lodge from time to time. During heat spells like we had the past few weeks it is so difficult to keep cool and is the large reason why we offer fans in each...

Took the trip out to forest grove for our baby moon during spring break. The plan was to hit up some other Mcmenamins on the trip out there. One thing about the trip - it takes FOR-EV-VER to get there. The road takes you through small pockets of towns and every one of them has a million streetlights. There is...

It's 11:40pm on a Thursday night. It was 100 degrees here today, and I'm in suite 217 with my husband and two kids. With no A/C in the rooms, we have the windows open, and fans going, but the screens provided don't fit the windows, so bugs are getting in. The porch lights from outside are shining in, and it...

Hello Kristin. Sorry to hear the stay was a challenging one. Warm weather with no AC can sometimes get difficult. Weather exceeding 100 just makes things hot. For the noise and screens not fitting I apologize. With only the one suite at our location you are located directly over the front lobby. We would have been more than happy to...

Quirky place with a lot of history but really enjoyed ourselves! I splurged and got a room with it's own bathroom (most rooms you have to share a community bathroom). This is a fun place to stay. The rooms are not the greatest, and we have experienced some shortcomings in service. However, the overall experience makes up for all of that. I always have a great time here.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Make a grand escape to McMenamins Grand Lodge! It's all in the details here, with the stately columns and winding drive, wide green lawn, 77 European-style guestrooms, restaurants, movie theater and small bars and some of the most fantastic artwork to ever grace these walls. Built in 1922 as a Masonic & Eastern Star home, the Grand Lodge has stories to tell. Renovated and opened by McMenamins in 2000, what was once tranquil and serene is now vibrant and colorful. Here the walls do speak... As do the doorways, the hallways, and even the overhead pipes. (Look up...)Inspired by the history of the city of Forest Grove and the building itself, McMenamins' artists have infused the Grand Lodge with original artwork and historical photographs - all tributes to the cast of characters who left their mark before us. ... more   less
