We went to Painted Hills for pictures especially a shot of the Milky Way. The only place that is close enough to stay for a night is this small hotel with only 6 rooms. We thought it would be tough for shared bathroom and no air conditioning. But it turned out to be very satisfactory. The owner was very nice...

If you're expecting luxury, this isn't it. If you can tolerate rustic, you've come to the right place. When someone describes a place as "quaint," you know it's probably going to have a lot of things wrong with it. This is The Oregon Hotel. You must realize, of course, that location is the biggest reason for TOH's condition. Mitchell, OR...

By way of introduction, Mitchell, Oregon, is a tiny town a bit north of the center of the state. It is in a semi-arid region that is also home to the uniquely beautiful and lightly visited Painted Hills unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. The Oregon Hotel is one of only 2, and there are exactly 3...

This is a run-down old house in much need of some TLC. It is very sad as this could be a cool ole place. It is on a street with a few other buildings and all are covered with dust and dumpy. We pulled up to the entire front yard taped off with caution tape and a piece of old...

We don't have very high standards by any means, but this place really needs some work. Very run down, looks and feels like nothing has been done to it since the early 70's. We have no problem that there's little to no cell service or that the wi-fi was a joke. Uneven floors, dirty shower, and furniture in poor condition....

I was in town on business (yes, business in Mitchell). I was happy to have a place to stay. The hotel is historic and reminded me nostalgically of my grandmother's old farmhouse that I haven't seen in 20 years. The bed was uncomfortable and if the weather is nice, next time I might camp instead. I'm sure it would be...

Like a throwback into hospitality with owners onsite. Rooms quaint. Ask and you will get great help from owners skeeter and Hue. Shower would have been nice. They even let us use there phone since our cell didn't work in town. Perfect stop for painted hills...

This place might be difficult with young kids as they have a lot of antique decorations. Our kids watched TV and went to bed. We woke up and had plenty of coffee and a muffin. It was easy to get our luggage into our downstairs rooms. It could have been a little cleaner, but they didn't have bedbugs. Downstairs rooms...

Great inn keepers, nice grounds and a serviceable room. It is an old building, so don't expect "modern", but that is a large part of its charm. The quaint lobby and front porch were filled with welcoming, happy people having a pleasant time when we were there in June. Many sounded like repeat visitors. There is a playground nearby that...

This is my second visit to the Oregon Hotel this year. Enjoyed the old west experience to one of Oregon's small eastern communities. Good service and reasonable rates. Room was clean and quiet. Coffee and muffins in the morning. Felt welcome in a home like atmosphere. Will be back again.
