This hotel went above and beyond my expectations. I really appreciate Clarissa at front desk. She has been so helpful throughout my entire stay. As a manager in the customer service industry I can say confidently that Clarissa is exceptional at her job. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is traveling for work, there is a good size desk with outlet plugs for when you need to work on your computer. And Clarissa would always make sure my car was waiting for me from valet when I’m leaving for work early in the morning. 100 out of 10 stay for me.

The cab dropped us off at The Benson and within a minute there was a staff person to take care of our luggage and delivered right up to our room while we checked in. The staff was very professional everywhere we encountered them. We ate several times at the restaurant downstairs and had room service, food was hot and very good. I've been staying here for years, before and after Covid. They have renovated the rooms, bar and lobby, and changed the carpet. My check-in was welcoming. Tristan (front office manager) and Clarissa were welcoming and helpful. Though the renovation is more modern, The Benson is still a very beautiful and the location is accessible to many places. I can't deny missing the old decor and fare though. Please don't let the homeless around the area deter you from staying here. Service is still awesome. Hopefully they will bring the tastings back.

This hotel is not what it used to be. Rude staff and front desk reps that are not being honest, transparent and are basically scamming their customer base. I initially made a reservation for 7 nights on a company rate of $156/nigh. When I checked in, i informed the front desk that I need to be 3 days out of town and asked the split the reservation to 2 nights + 2 nights. When i checked out after the last 2 nights i realized they have charged a higher rate of $182/night - when I confornted them with the initial resevtaion I had, they basically ignored - said, that this is the rate and they are not familiar with other rates. I showed them the rate i was charged in the first 2 nights of $156 and they basically smirked. Their front deck person was not very customer oriented, did not pffer any explanation and eseentially gave a very uncomfortable feeling of somene who talks down at you at a creep hollow look. I will advise my company to stop dealing with them. There are so much better options in the area (Lucia, Bidewell, The Nines) that can give you much better value for money …

Average hotel experience which could have been better if it were not for an overall lack of attentive customer service. The one notable exception was Kathryn in the Palm Court who went above and beyond in treating us as valued guests in the hotel. Prior to staying at The Benson I read reviews that stated that everyone on the staff made them feel welcomed. We did not have that same experience. Instead, the overall impression that I received was one of polite indifference. This impression was sealed upon our check out which was unnecessarily delayed by the manager on duty who was holding on to an essential receipt that was needed for us to leave the hotel. Once it was identified that he was the cause of our delay he did not apologize nor even acknowledge his mistake. Truly bad form for any customer service representative, especially a manager. What an amazing experience. Spent back to back weekends at the Benson in Portland and it is by far one of the greatest stays you could ask for. The staff are wonderful and truly care about giving you the best experience. Bobby was exceptional and accommodating for us at breakfast. He showed my daughter how to make paper boats and I really enjoyed talking with him. He told us about the history and was genuinely caring. The food is excellent and best of all, the people are great. I would recommend anyone to come stay here and will absolutely be back. John had us taken care of during the evening and was amazing. I visited The Benson for a wedding. The front desk staff was so friendly. They gave me personal reccomendations for a nail salon. I called down to the front desk to get my dress ironed. They didnt have a laundry service but the front desk clerk, Clarissa, went our of her way to come to my room and ironed my dress herself while I was out getting said mani/pedi!!! The wedding was beautiful. The architecture is amazing. Totally reccomend!

What a gorgeous hotel! Everything was perfect. The staff, especially Clarissa at the front desk, were smart, eficient, professional, but above all, kind. We felt treated like family. In a good way. The rooms were comfortable, updated and spotlessly clean. It was centrally located to all the places we wanted to visit, so we didn't even bother to rent a car! During my stay at The Porter, which is located a few minutes down the road from The Benson, I encountered some issues that ultimately led to leave mid stay. The bathroom door fell off, and the air conditioning stopped working in both the rooms and public areas during a local heat wave. As a result, I contacted Hilton corporate and was re-directed to The Benson. In contrast, my stay at The Benson was fantastic. The rooms were clean, quiet, well-styled, and most importantly, cool in temperature during the heat wave. I particularly appreciated the plush carpets and the comfortable yet firm beds. The staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive especially Clarissa at the front desk. The only downside I would mention is that the area surrounding the hotel seems to have a slight homelessness issue ( old town area ). However, this is beyond the hotel’s control and is more of a reflection of the current state of downtown Portland. There’s nothing to be overly concerned about, though, as I was able to go for daily morning jogs without any incidents. Same rules apply as any major city in the US. Overall , I would recommend The Benson on your next stay in downtown Portland and I would personally stay again.…

Nice historical hotel. The staff are friendly and attentive. The layout of the room would have been better if they had placed two chairs and a bigger table. There is space for that. The bed was a tad lumpy. The refrigerator had a lock and it was tricky to figure out how to adjust temperature to keep stuff cold. I liked how much storage there was in the bathroom.
