My name is Michael Shires, I recently stayed at The Porter by Hilton for a couple nights, I usually stay at Marriott hotels but was a little tight on money this time. One of the best customer service I've had without spending extra money. My valet driver was Cheryl, she opened my door without hesitation, greeting me with politeness and smiles even recommended me a couple places go to eat. The Front Desk was good not the best but not the worse i had. My housekeeper was amazing because my room didn't have a spot of dust in it so i could relax and feel comfortable without my room all dirtied up. Definitely coming back on the my next visit. The Porter by Hilton won me over for the price but the front desk was the only thing but that could be more professional

Amazing service and cozy vibe. Zen was great at valet service and welcoming us to the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family. Nice layout inside and I loved that they had someone walking around offering champagne. That was a first for us

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
The Porter was a nice, modern hotel in Hilton’s Curio Collection. The room was clean and comfortable, but there was a notable lack of storage space, with no traditional dresser or chest of drawers. The only drawers in the room were 3 small “kitchen” style drawers, under the coffee maker. There was also no closet, but instead a small wardrobe containing only 4 hangers. Under the TV was a built in luggage rack, but under it, there were two sliding door cabinets like you might find on a TV entertainment center — again, not drawers, as one might expect. Because of this odd set up, I left all my clothes in my suitcase, except for my work clothes and jackets, which I hung in the wardrobe. Fortunately, I brought some hangers from home, or I would have quickly run out.
The room I was in was on the 15th floor, on the backside of the hotel. I was worried I might hear the xport bar upstairs, but didn’t hear a thing, perhaps because most of the bar is on the front (river side) of the hotel, or maybe the sound insulation between floors is good. I could, however, hear my neighbors in the adjoining room, through the connecting door. They had a small child who liked to open and close their side of the door, but even when both doors were closed, I could hear a lot of noise from that room.
The bathroom was pretty nice and had Malin + Goetz amenities, which were fine. Water pressure was weak, however, and would constantly vary.
The aforementioned 16th floor rooftop bar, Xport, was a nice place to unwind with coworkers after a day of meetings. Cocktails were good, and the place had a nice laid back vibe. We stayed inside, as it was a bit windy outside on the lanai.
The hotel is in a pretty quiet part of downtown, but in walking distance of some good restaurants, and a few blocks from Max (light rail). In April 2024, I didn’t encounter any homeless in the immediate vicinity, and the streets were largely empty. Felt safe walking around during the day, and even the evening, for the most part.
The last thing I’ll say about this hotel is that it’s largely cashless. I tried to break a $20 at the front desk, for housekeeping tips, and they couldn’t do it, nor could the coffee shop in the lobby, which only accepts credit or exact cash transactions — no change given. Not a huge deal, I guess.
All in all, a decent stay, which could be improved by more thoughtful room design.

Every single desk receptionist we spoke to was lovely, from checkin, to those greeting us each time we came back in, and to Jason at checkout (sorry for missing the names of everyone else!)
We didn’t need housekeeping services (we like reusing our towels and can make our bed) but they were lovely when I spoke with them on the last day of our trip and very forgiving and understanding about me getting my period by surprise right at the end and getting blood on my sheets (I am so sorry again).
The duvet cover was warm, fluffy, soft and wonderful! The bed was very comfortable and nice to sleep in ♥️
The bathroom had such a nice mirror with circle lamp around it for doing makeup or skincare and it was *such* an appreciated touch! I also loved the full length mirror in the room as well as the hangers in the closet (that came out of the closet for easier garment hanging and removal!) and the full size ironing board! Top tier amenities right there!
The rooftop bar had great mood lighting, was incredibly clean despite many people coming and going, the staff were very attentive, and the bar tenders were very knowledgeable about their drink selection and able to make good recommendations based on my taste preferences (and made certain I was okay with my selection being less ABV than other drinks- which was actually perfect for me!)
The concierge was incredibly helpful for answering questions as well.
The only thing my partner and I didn’t absolutely love were the chicken tenders and fries we ordered to the room, the fries were a bit soggy and just not the best chicken we’ve ever had (we also did wait about 10 minutes to eat it so that may have played into the fries part as one order sat under plastic over the plate, and one under the tin). The kitchen was willing to make my fries plain and not their normal parm and I do appreciate that accommodation, and they definitely were a lifesaver when we were starving and everywhere else seemed to be closed, and far from the worst I’ve ever had. Probably better eaten right away.
Overall, our stay was incredibly wonderful and comfortable, thank you all so much for the great experience and all the staff for working so hard to make it a wonderful time and guest experience 💖

We were on the 10th floor and the room we had was spacious and very quiet. Our room had a king-sized bed with comfortable mattress and pillows. The a/c was quiet and worked well. The mini fridge was in a cabinet far from the bed so also not a bother. The bathroom was large and the toilet was separated off by a sliding glass door. The main bathroom doors were not a good design choice though - hanging barndoor style which left gaps in awkward places.
The service was a bit hit or miss. We checked in smoothly and when we discovered that one of the bedside lamps was burnt out, housekeeping came quickly to replace the bulb. Two of our devices could not connect to the wifi and we never were able to get it to work. The lines at the front desk were very long due to what appeared to be a lot of on-going issues. One afternoon while we were waiting, multiple people had issues accessing their cars in the parking lot, one person had to keep returning as their key didn't work or they were given a room that was occupied, and a poor family was told they had to move to a different hotel because of overbooking. From the stack of envelopes on the desk, it wasn't just them. Reading other reviews, it seems these issues are not rare.
Fortunately for us, our stay had few hiccups and we enjoyed our stay overall. The hotel is located close to a few nice coffee shops and restaurants. It is about a 15-20 min walk from the main downtown touristy area.

We loved this modern, luxurious, well situated boutique hotel located in the best part of downtown Portland. The service was impeccable. The room was bright, airy and a very large size. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. The bathroom was perfect—great lighting at the mirror-great water pressure and I liked you could close the sliding door for probably when using the commode, I prefer this design to a separate room for the toilet. The room was quiet. And one of the poshest hotels I’ve been in outside the Conrad in NYC!
The restaurant downstairs had reasonably priced and delicious food. Very fresh and tasty. There was only one server on duty but he managed to provide attentive service. We checked out the rooftop bar—music was too loud inside but there was a party happening so no big deal. The view outside provides panoramic views of the city. Good service and strong drinks and they have this clever system to craft mocktails. They put a lot of thought into it. Finally the coffee house in the lobby is WONDERFUL! Friendly staff best coffee I’ve ever had. Oh, the area around the hotel is quiet and safe. I will be back here the next time I’m in town.

Let me start by saying that the 3 star average rating that I have given is in no way a reference to the staff of this hotel. In fact the best thing about this hotel is their staff who accommodate your every request.
The average rating is due to the booking experience and lack of certain basic facilities that you need to request. At first, as a Hilton Honors member I browsed the Hilton website for their Best property in Portland and shortlisted this hotel. I usually book through my credit card rewards program so as to maximize points and so checked the rate difference between my credit card company and Hilton website and chose the breakfast included rate. That was the first surprise. When we showed up at the Hotel, we were informed that the Porter Portland is part of the Hilton Curio collection and they have no breakfast at the hotel. They did not even have a restaurant at the hotel where you could buy breakfast. They had a small attached cafe where you could grab bagels, pastries and coffee to go. But they were regularly out of stock on most items. Even milk for coffee was out on one day of the two that we stayed there. As I had booked with my credit card company, I could get a credit of some points for getting no breakfast. But I am not sure what other people do who book with a vendor who doesn’t offer refunds or with Hilton directly. I still see that Hilton website is offering a breakfast inclusive rate even though the hotel has no breakfast.
The second thing is the lack of bathroom supplies in the hotel. A room with king bed with at least two people occupancy should at the minimum have two bath towels, soaps, etc in the bathroom. But in this case there was only one towel and one soap and we had to request a second set from the reception. Initially I didn’t think it was a problem. But when I was at the front desk inquiring about the breakfast issue, the receptionist got at least 3 calls to provide additional towels and toiletries to different rooms. So I am assuming this is a generic problem at the hotel. The housekeeping staff need to be taught to provide the required bathroom supplies when they clean the room after each guest has left.
The staff at the hotel are exemplary though. Always ready to assist you for anything you need. They also provided good suggestions on what to see and where to eat. The hotel has a valet parking system which is $49 overnight. But you can park yourself across the street in the Smart Parking Garage for $15 on weekdays and $10 on weekends and holidays.
I would stay at this hotel again but would make sure that I make arrangements for breakfast elsewhere.

This place could be better if they care a little more. Staff is not very welcoming at this hotel. The woman at the front desk on the day of our arrival, limited herself to give us our room keys and charge us for incidentals. No greeting, not welcoming. No explanation at all of hotel amenities. I’ve gotten a warmer welcome at a grocery store. It is noticeable staff will benefit from getting trained on how to treat guests. Cleaning staff was way warmer than reception staff.
Rooms are okay. Nothing special about them. Good hotel to spend a weekend, but that’s it.

Our booking was part of a package deal which we prepaid but upon arrival in the hotel we were asked to pay over $800 again. After almost 2 hours of discussion between the hotel and the agency we booked the package with (done on my cellphone because no one was answering the hotel phone) the lady at the front desk finally acknowledged that it was something that needed to be settled between both of them the following day and gave us our room, by which time most restaurants in the area were closed and we were starving… today, when we got back to the hotel at around 4-5pm, our room was not yet done and when I called to ask for it to be done, the answer I got was that their housekeeping works 24 hours and I just need to wait til they get around to doing our room. I asked when that could be and if I would have to wait until midnight before that was done and I the answer I got was yes. Oh, I could also look on my floor and see if there was anyone from housekeeping and ask them… no apology whatsoever. I called again after dinner and asked at the very least if they could bring up towels which were eventually brought up an hour later… but not enough for both of us. The housekeeping person who brought the towels said he would bring the missing towels which still did not come an hour later. I decided to go down to the front desk in hope of getting them myself. There was one lady and a long line of guests waiting yo check in. They could not find the reservation of the party checking in and the lady was answering nonstop calls from guests in their rooms complaining about their rooms not being made or not receiving one service or another that they were expecting to receive…. There’s more but it’s past 10pm and I can finally get ready for bed as our towels just arrived. Location is good, rooms are nice and clean. But I’ve gotten better service at a Motel 6. Buyer beware.

I recently stayed at the Portland Curio and had a mixed experience.
Although the room itself was spacious and generally comfortable, there were several issues that detracted from our overall enjoyment.
One of the main problems we encountered was that we had informed the hotel of the number of guests in our party, but not enough towels, bedding, shampoo, or soap were provided. This meant that we had to call down to the front desk multiple times to request additional supplies, which was inconvenient.
Additionally, we were surprised to find a number of holes in the bedding sheets. Given the hotel's reputation, we expected better attention to detail when it came to the cleanliness and condition of the linens. This was disappointing and detracted from our comfort during our stay.
Furthermore, the lines at check-in were very busy, and there was only one person working during the check-in window. This meant that we had to wait for a long time to check in and get our room key, which was frustrating after a long day of traveling.
Despite these issues, the hotel staff were generally friendly and accommodating, and the location was convenient for exploring the city. The pool was also nice and a good temp. However, we would recommend that the hotel management take steps to improve their attention to detail when it comes to amenities and cleanliness, as well as to have more staff available at the front desk during busy times.
Overall, we had a mixed experience at this hotel, and we hope that the management takes our feedback into account in order to improve the experience for future guests.

Hello JKM808, We appreciate the opportunity to welcome you and yours to The Porter. We're glad you found our location ideal for easily navigating the city and we hope everyone has returned home with delightful discoveries and some lasting memories. We take note of your detailed feedback and you can be assured that your comments have been heard and will receive attention from our management team. We're sorry you were disappointed with the preparations of your room and the condition of the bedding. Please know this falls well below our standards, as our Waldorf Astoria bedding is typically well enjoyed. Our housekeeping managers will be inspecting our linens with a careful eye going forward and we apologize once again. We do regret as well the lengthy wait to check in. The recent winter weather has caused some staffing challenges over the past several days and we expect to be back to full strength quickly. We are pleased that you were met with a smile and warm hospitality from the colleagues you encountered. As we previously mentioned, the detailed comments you shared will be shared with our entire team. We hear those opportunities to improve and hopefully, we can welcome you again and shine brightly. Best regards, Your friends at The Porter

The reception desk is extremely accommodating. We had no need of late check out ourselves. My impression is a one hour later checkout would not be a problem in most situations.
