I stayed at the Hoxton, Portland while attending and participating in a convention across the river. From the moment I arrived I was impressed with the intimate and non-pretentious décor, rich with interesting and unique artwork. Doug, the valet was the first of the team to greet us and became a friend and ally as my co-worker and I spent the next several days coming and going early and late with carloads of supplies. The "Cozy" room was very comfortable for 1- indeed, it felt like an elevated guest room from a prior generation; decorated in mid-century furnishings and bold modern accents. On the first night, I had some very flavorful bites and an outstanding curated mezcal tasting at Tope. For the remainder of our stay, we were assisted each morning by the outstanding duo of Lucia and Mahea in the mornings who helped my co-worker and I with perishable and non-perishable supplies for the convention- getting our supplies in and out of myriad dry storage areas and coolers. They answered every question I could come up with, made excellent suggestions for area dining & cocktails, and joined in our enthusiasm for Portland. In the evenings, Doug was always a welcome face (if we made it back at a reasonable time), and the amazing Renae was incredibly helpful assisting us get our supplies back into their storage. At one point, I needed to bring a cart-load of equipment up to the room to reorganize and re-pack and the team was, again, extremely helpful (and recommended the perfect drink to decompress at the bar!). The staff was always ready to address the room's needs. To folks not familiar with the area, the hotel is in a neighborhood that looks rough (though I will point out I had nothing but good experiences with the local folks). Please be safe and mindful of your possessions when outside of the hotel! Delicious food and drink in easy walking distance.…
I recently stayed at the Hoxton for business purposes and we were a BIG group with a lot of different requests and needs. The staff here are the LOVLIEST staff i've encountered at a hotel. Literally no request was too big, all the staff remembered my name. The rooms were beautiful and clean. The bar staff were lovely and we were just SO well looked after. We also used 'The apartment' as a meeting space and it was perfect, Jen looked after us so well and i'm genuinely looking forward to coming back. I most definitely will not stay anywhere else in Portland and recommend that everyone stays there! Bonus points for Afuri being literally a 2 minute walk away! Thanks team so much and I look forward to seeing you soon! (I also never write reviews but had such a good stay I actively wanted to)…
I was told when checking in there was no restocking the room or turndown service during my stay and to call the desk if I needed anything replenished. Perfect, no problem. The room is tiny and inefficient so I had my belongings spread out on the floor in unzipped packing cubes, as I was staying a few days for work. Unexpectedly while I was out for a day at work, someone did go into my room to replenish water. While this is a thoughtful service, I do wish I had not been voluntarily told by the front desk no one would enter my room, because I would not have left my belongings out in the manner I did. When I returned from work early the next morning I immediately noticed the two cans of water placed on the table by the door, as well as I had left a prescribed bottle of a controlled substance out in plain sight right next to the door. It was a brand new 90 day prescription I just picked up for my 2 month work trip. Oddly, my gut told me to count my prescription which I did 4x because I discovered I was missing 12 doses of my medication. It wasn’t physically possible for me to have taken these 12 doses, as again this bottle was only a few days old and I had every dose accounted for. Immediately I called the front desk to make them aware of the situation. I provided dates of when I’d picked up and taken each dose of my meds. I was told they would begin an investigation, and I requested they follow up with me. There was a camera right outside my room. I stopped by the desk the evening I was checking out to follow up myself, after not hearing anything from the hotel the next day. I requested a call back from the manager once again at this time. A few days later I called to follow up. The person answering the phone had no notes about my stay or this incident, and took a message for management. It’s been weeks, and the hotel never bothered to follow up with me as they said they would. For this reason alone I’d never stay here again but let me list a few other reasons if this hasn’t deterred you already. Outside, is zombie land. A lottttt of people walking around shooting up drugs, smoking substances out of spoons and foil casually on the sidewalk right outside the hotel door, day and night. I was told by my Uber driver picking me up after checking out that this area is notorious for drive by shootings. The room was not the cleanest, and it was very very small. No desk, no real closet, hardly any floor space. Every time you shower you will flood the bathroom floor. The air conditioner in my room made the space very moist, and constantly rattled and chirped anytime it was on. I wouldn’t have been bothered to leave a review about my experience but the hotel literally emailed me to leave a review so here it is. Avoid the risk and the hassle, stay somewhere else.…
We found this hotel to be an animated and welcoming oasis in a city neighbourhood that is experiencing some challenging times. Highlights include: an eclectic vibe throughout, very comfortable and light-filled guest room, a must-visit roof top restaurant/bar with excellent Mexican food and drink plus great views of downtown Portland from the outdoor terrace, and a gracious and helpful service team.
DANGEROUS LOCATION - BEWARE The service was ok, the room was fine (a bit small but fine), but the fact that the hotel is in a very unsafe place and the fact you're paying a premium for this hotel makes no sense. There was a shooting literally right next to the hotel at 9:30pm on Friday night....we stopped by a bar right behind the hotel and as we came out the entire intersection and area around the hotel was taped off with police everywhere. We weren't able to get to the hotel entrance as that entire intersection was taped off and had to have a police officer escort us behind the tape to the hotel entrance. The hotel bar has bullet proof glass facing the street...ask yourself why thats the case. And lastly, what didn't sit too well with me was the fact The area has a homeless problem for sure, but so does Los Angeles Downtown...so i didn't think too much of it...but a shooting literally where i could have been walking had i come back to the hotel 30minutes earlier is not cool. SAFETY FIRST....and this area is not safe. Maybe it will get better, but as of now, its not safe.…
I did not have a comfortable stay at all. The wall/floor insolation is sth that hasn't been taken care of at The Hoxton. With every single passenger walking in the aisle, I was waking up in the middle of the night, and also, the banging of the metal doors was very disturbing. I ended up going to the reception at ~3 am to explain the situation, and all they had to tell me was that it was a busy time, and they offered an earplug which wasn't helpful at all. The room was really snug! I felt claustrophobic and for someone like me who was there for a business trip, there was no closet (except for couple of coat hangers) and no space to work in the room. Cafe was closed from Mon-Thurs and the neighborhood was not very safe to walk around that early in the morning to get food. For the expense of each night, I think there was too many more that could've been taken care of to make it more comfortable for the guests. The only positive aspects were the cute design of the lobby and room (though not comfortable) and the friendly receptionist during the daytime. …
My husband and I wanted a local hotel with drink and food options available without having to leave the hotel. We were celebrating our anniversary and we had an amazing stay. The rooms are super comfy, the bath products were so good, the food and drinks amazing. Love the decor, the atmosphere, and the friendly staff. We highly recommend the Hoxton to locals and travellers.
Very conveniently located. It’s inside China town where you can enjoy authentic Chinese foods. Friendly staff and comfortable beds. My family members also enjoy their stay. I’ll surly stay at this hotel again for my future travels.
The hotel being stunning was just a bonus. The staff was fantastic. Lucia at the front desk was a true gem. I felt so safe with her guidance and recommendations. We visited on a heat warning week and even tho we did not ask for room service they still made sure we got our fridge water replenished. Just good good people that want you to be safe and taken care of.
If you're looking for a great place to stay in Portland, definitely stay here. The WiFi is fire, the staff is incredible, the rooms are gorgeous, and you are blocks away from EVERYTHING! If you stay elsewhere, you are an idiot.
