I have had the pleasure of staying at this hotel about five times now and every room is so unique and different. The staff is so friendly and helpful and check in has always been a breeze. Personally, I just feel like the rooms are so thought out from the design to everything that the concierge can help with and morning coffee service. I really love staying here even as a portland local because I feel pampered when I stay here.

New, conveniently located and chic hotel in downtown Portland. Beautiful decor, excellent sleep and beautiful bathroom. Clean, excellent housekeeping. We were actively offered bikes from the concierge to explore the city the next day. When we requested the bikes the following day, it turned out they had flat tires. We were told to wait a couple of hours to get them fixed, when we came back two hours later to pick them up we were told that they couldn’t be fixed (we assumed this would happen … salami tactics 😏). It would have been better if they checked the bikes straight away the night before when they offered the bikes to us. If the bike thing would have worked out, it would have been a 100% pleasant stay.

If booking through a third party (e.g. credit card travel portal, booking.com, etc), double-check your charges from the hotel after you check out. I was overcharged by $588 and had to go through weeks of emails, calls, a partial refund, and even a credit card dispute before the hotel returned the correct amount.

A group of us booked separate rooms for a wedding taking place. Firstly, when I checked in the person said I had not booked a king room, knowing I had, I opened my phone and indeed had booked 1 king and a separate 2 queen room. One room being for our teen boys, the other for my husband and I.
I suspect because we used hotels dot com to book, we were given rooms right off the elevator. Our sons were given a room with a broken door sensor, and other a bathroom door that had no latch, so it couldn't be properly closed, much less locked. We were given a room a few doors away, with stained furniture and near apparently the 5 am DAILY garbage/recycling pick up.
3 aunts/ 2 uncles never heard this as there rooms were off in different parts of the hotel. (they booked direct) We originally had booked the loft directly with the hotel, because it said it slept 4 - when I looked closer at our reservation I realized it was a fold out couch, and we were staying too long for our 6'+ boys to sleep on a fold out couch.. The better prices was on Hotels.

Ok, also upon check in they charged an additional $225 hold per room - and couldn't explain why. It wasn't until check out that I fully understood the charge and that it was a refundable daily incidentals hold. So the staff might be trained better to explain their policies.

It is a good location. There is a lot within walking distance, and a parking garage that only charges $23 a night compared to their ridiculous fee.

We stayed at the Woodlark because we had heard very good things about it. Our first impression was good. We checked in late at night and received a warm reception at the front desk. Initially our room, though smaller than expected for an upgraded king, looked impressive. The impression began to wear thin, however, when we discovered no closet and practically no drawers for our clothes. Coat hooks and a Rube Goldberg contraption holding hangers were Woodlark’s attempt at minimalism. We were staying four nights!!

The next morning we asked to be upgraded to a larger room. The front desk staff was extremely cooperative. We couldn’t switch rooms immediately so the staff permitted us to wait until evening to make the switch. Our new room was an improvement over the first. It was larger and included a large sofa and chair. Strangely, however, there was no more drawer or closet space to put away clothing. The coat hooks were located in the bathroom. It was as if the hotel’s designer had never stayed in a hotel before or h/she designed the hotel solely for one night guests.

A saving grace is that the king size bed was very comfortable and the Woodlark is central to most areas of downtown, about a 15 minute walk at most to the Pearl District, 10 minutes to the Museum of Art and the University and about a 10-15 minute Lyft ride to the Japanese and Rose Gardens. Also, an excellent coffee shop and an exciting bar and lounge have rented space on the first floor of the Woodlark. Although these businesses appear to be independent of the hotel, they add a complementary buzz and vibe that helped make our stay palatable despite our room’s troubling design flaws.

Hi K-traveler13, Thanks for taking the time to provide your review of Woodlark here on TripAdvisor. I'm very pleased that our guest services team were able to accommodate a move to a a larger guest room and were able to work around your busy schedule. Good Coffee and Abigail Hall, are such amazing venues and we are lucky to have them. We truly are in an unbeatable location steps away from The Best that The City of Roses has to offer. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. All my best, Matt and The Woodlark Crew

Myself and a few other local Portland friends hosted our third annual poetry festival in June of 2024, and we used the Woodlark Hotel as one of our main spaces for day programming. It was an amazing venue and a delightful time! They were great with communication, offered our poets / attendees free coffee and tea, and the space itself was clean and the perfect size! If you're looking for an event space, would highly recommend working with the Woodlark. Want to give an extra shout out to Bryon Marie and Katherine O'Brien for being utterly fantastic!

We lost our power during an ice storm and sought refuge. We never expected the wonderful experience we had beginning with Rafa, a real person who made booking a breeze. When other hotels took advantage of the storm and raised prices the Woodlark lowered them! The restaurant and bars stayed opened with full staff and great service, delicious food. They must have sold more French fries than ever before with so many kids ordering them while their parents enjoyed a perfectly mixed cocktail!
Our room was clean and spacious. I loved the wall paper! The bathroom was fab! Modern and fresh and well appointed with wonderful high end potions and lotions.
The coffee service in the morning included house baked pastries and is open to the public so I will be visiting whenever I am downtown.
I forgot to mention: they have little kids stuffed animals!
The vibe here is beautiful meets comfortable meets young and young at heart! And hip!
Shout out to Rafa and Nate, too! To everyone!

We loved this hotel! It’s beautiful, new, and clean. The housekeeping staff was super friendly and went above and beyond! When I was carrying two coffees back up to my room, the gentleman cleaning in the morning walked over to elevator and scanned his card and pushed the button for me! I don’t know how I would have done this without a free hand. He deserves a huge shout out! We also loved that they texted us in the morning about our car, and it was waiting outside at the time we asked for it.

Even though we had a mostly positive experience, there were a few negatives. One is the $20 amenity fee. We didn’t use the amenities during our trip, and had to ask for our drinks. It would be nice if you just asked your guests at checkin. It was also a huge disappointment that you didn’t have bottled water as an option. We don’t like sparkling water. We also would have loved a wine choice, over just beer. It seems like if you’re charging $20 there would be more choices of beverages, and they would be offered instead of having to ask.

The other negative would be the interactions with the front desk staff. When we arrived to check in, they were too busy having a side conversation to say hello or greet us. Over our stay they didn’t seem very friendly or customer service driven.

I still gave 5 stars because of the quality of the room, and the amazing housekeeping staff!

There are several public parking garages around the property, the same garages the valet uses, in fact. You just have to be willing to walk about a block or so.

Thanks for asking. We provide same day laundry and dry cleaning. If you are able to get it to us by 8am we can get it back to you by 6:pm. Sunday is the only day that this service isn't provided. There are also coin op laundry facilities near the hotel. We can give you directions upon arrival if you wish.
