Loved this hotel -- off the beaten path means more value for our money. The room was comfortable, the complimentary breakfast accommodates a variety of tastes, and the public transportation allowed us to easily get downtown. We'll definitely be back! Covid guidelines: masks required (thank you!)

It’s affordable and the location is good especially if you’re traveling with children. Across the river is OMSI and they have an outdoor pool. Breakfast is in the morning though the options are slightly limited for Hot options. They also have a bar and grill that is also affordable and it was tasty. The rooms are a bit dated, could use new carpet but the beds we’re comfortable and clean. Very small elevator so if you have a lot of luggage you may need to take multiple trips.

My daughter and I stayed here recently when she had an accident and I came to take care of her. Our room was remodeled and very clean. We were very comfortable as she recovered. The breakfast was delicious everyday and the attendants were courteous and efficient. Our room was quiet and had a great big tv, a comfy chair, and a very nice shower. The housekeepers were nice and worked around my daughter as she rested. We used the frig and microwave and were happy to have them. The only complaints we had were a heater that was warm but noisy and vending machines that didn’t work. The hotel is in a great location and is incredibly well priced in downtown. There are walkable restaurants and easy access to public transportation. There were even daffodils blooming in February!

I had a very nice one week stay here and would happily book University Place again. This is a great location both for the university and downtown, with easy access to Max and bus lines. The price was good, and the area is safe. The hotel has an excellent breakfast included.

It's true that the rooms are a bit dated but it didn't bother me. Everything worked, there was a fridge & microwave, and there's a nice TV as well (including HBO).

There are a huge number of food options near the hotel. I really liked Verona Pizza and Phat Cart, but there are countless others.

The hotel has a beautiful courtyard area, surrounding the pool. It's actually a very attractive setting.

The staff was friendly and helped me out when I needed something. Many of the staff are PSU students (so don't expect everyone to have huge amounts of hospitality industry experience).

I loved so many things about our stay at this hotel. The pillows were good as was the bed. The water pressure and shower head were good. The room was quiet and dark at night. (no weird electronic glowing things) The first room we were given had a funky smell and we were given a new room and new keys within 2 minutes of calling the desk. We loved that the room had a little deck and that the sliding door opened to let in lots of fresh, clean air. The sheets and bedding were soft and comfortable. Breakfast was tasty, quick and friendly as well as covid-safe. They served scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, and french toast along with coffee and juice. Our room had both a mini-fridge and a microwave making it easy to travel "on the cheap." The staff was attentive and friendly and gave good restaurant recommendations. Even the roll-away bed was comfortable. Parking was free when we were there despite being advertised as costing $18. The location was good for the things we wanted to do near downtown and Portland state University. There is a light rail line (max line) right outside the front door. A wonderful place to stay.

Due to a family emergency I had to cancel our reservation. I was even willing to take a credit for next years Waterfront festival. With 2 weeks notice , they would not budge. They could easily rent the room to someone else but it will sit empty for a week. Extremely bad business practice. This could have been a glowing review but due to the short sighted management, they get a one. Thanks for making a painful time more painful. Good for you for following the RULES!

University Place is an excellent bargain in downtown Portland. We booked the executive suite 3 nights for just $159 a night. After driving across the U.S. to get here, the helpful staff and spaciousness if the room was very welcome. You enter into a large living area with a foyer, large HD TV, sofabed, 2 plush chairs, dining table for 6, many lamps, and an ambient fireplace. Microwave, sink, 2 fridges. It would be a good place to entertain. The large separate bedroom has a king bed, comfy chaise lounge and a luxury bathroom with jacuzzi and separate shower. Piles of towels. The pool was nice, the breakfast generous. Sure the hotel is slightly dated and you can hear traffic outside. But we could not believe what we got for the price.

From check-in to check out, every minute of our time in this hotel was great. The front desk staff was wonderful and extremely helpful. The room was lovely and spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Parking was right outside the door and it felt very safe, as did the whole neighborhood around the hotel. There are fantastic food trucks minutes from the hotel. The hotel's complimentary breakfast was delicious and the staff there was lovely too. Overall a fabulous experience.

Clean, modern, good hot breakfast. Good pricing.

This is the place to stay if you have business on pill hill. Having to hang out while assorted family have surgeries at OHSU or the VA Hospital, it’s a short drive.

They have standard rooms and comfort rooms. I think the extra few dollars means the comfort rooms have newer furniture and decor. I suspect this was a Red Lion in the 70’s. In season there is a pool and a pool bar. The restaurant is open for dinner. The parking is not free, but if you pay for it at the same time you make the reservation, it’s a few dollars off.

Here’s a cheese quesadilla I got to snack on in the room.

Just wanted to reach out and tell how accommodating the front desk staff here was. We were there because wife was having surgery in Portland and I couldn't find the hotel because I wasn't familiar with the city streets there so I called the hotel and was speaking to a gentleman by the name of Billy he was so patient and professional with me I explained I was having trouble finding hotel he guided me from the area I was in right to the front door of hotel. I was so impressed with his understanding I just had to let upper management know what kind and how lucky they are to have him working there.I have been in hotel &casino business for over 30 years and never have I been more impressed with how he bothered to take time and help us get to hotel. And it didn't stop there after we checked in he was treating us the same explaining to me about the hotel amenities on and on. Your whole staff was first class even in restaurant bar .
Thanks for making a unpleasant situation a better situation. Rick Janet.

We went to a couple of places on SW Montgomery St, very near to the waterfront: Portland Sports Bar and Grill, and McCormick & Schmick's Harborside at the Marina. Both were easy walking distance of the Hotel.
