The Hotel Prairie is lovely and quaint. They give you a key to the front door so you can come and go as you please when the desk clerk goes off duty at night. There is a kitchen with fridge, sink, and coffee pot for those who would like access. There's an adjoining lounge that serves beer, wine, and bar... More

Historic hotel with a modern touch. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and the staff is awesome. The lounge has a beautiful bar and tables, great place to have a glass of wine and play cards or just unwind. We have really enjoyed our stay and hope to return soon.

This quaint space provides a television and a wonderful woman named shay tending bar. Just come in and say hello and feel immediately welcome. The beer selection was from all around as well as the wine!

We were driving west on US Hwy. 26 in Oregon. About 15 minutes before we got to John Day we saw this quaint little hotel on the side of the road in Prairie City. Decided to stop and we are so glad we did. Great updated historical building with very nice rooms for a very reasonable cost (queen bed suite... More

We stayed three nights in August 2016 at Hotel Prairie with our family of five (kids ages 9, 6 and 4) while we explored the John Day fossil beds and experienced the Sumpter Valley Railway. The hotel has a 1-bedroom suite that was wonderfully spacious for all of us. The suite includes a full kitchen which we didn't use much... More

I stayed two nights in this lovely historic hotel. The place was very clean and well equipped. The staff are friendly too. No elevator so had to climb a narrow and creaking staircase to my upstairs room, but there are ground floor rooms for those who need them.

This hotel was restored several years ago. I believe it was originally built around 1910 and there are pictures and articles about the hotel from that era. Prairie City is 12 miles east of John Day and it is a cute town. The hotel is on the main street through town, which is actually Hwy 26. It was very clean,... More

So glad we passed up the expensive Best Western in John Day to land at this elegant, comfy, and welcoming oasis in the high dessert of eastern Oregon. An early advertisement for the hotel from the many interesting historical tidbits in their lobby describes it as "Modern in Every Respect" with "Elegant Rooms and Furnishings" and "High Class Table Service."... Located right on the highway through Prairie City, the hotel is perfectly located for a quick trip to John Day or surrounding area. The hotel has a friendly, almost bed and breakfast feel with a common kitchen area with microwave, refrigerator, toaster oven, etc. The room is small as expected for a historic hotel but the bathroom was larger than...
