We were a very stinky group of 5 long distance hikers who were on the newly designated Bigfoot Trail which runs through the redwoods located very near the motel. Melanie greeted us and told us of the area. She graciously volunteered to wash our filthy hiker clothing (Perhaps out of self preservation?) while we lounged in our nice room and...

After a long day of traveling, there is nothing better than a great night's sleep and a hot shower. You can relax in a clean and comfortable room and then step outside to a breathtaking view. We recommend taking a stroll down one of the many nearby hiking trails to explore the amazing Redwood Forest or you can take a...

New management is great. The rooms are clean and priced right. The owners and girl at front desk are really nice and friendly. I would give this 5 stars except for the fact that, our room was not 'cleaned' the next day (we stayed two nights). And, when I found the person that was suppose to clean, she said 'no...

Under new management....not necessarily better. I'd drive an hour or two if needed just to stay elsewhere. Gruff, angry, constantly complaining man working the front desk told me the woman who answered the phone and claimed to be a manager was not one. Met her later and she contradicted him. Very unwelcoming check in. Extremely overpriced. For one third of...

Hiouchi Motel came under new ownership/management at the time of this review. I'm excited to see the improvements and changes they have planned. The new owners were welcoming and friendly. You can tell they are professional and have a passion for their work, but are also very homespun in their approach. This place is ideal for weary road travelers looking...

Stayed overnight to spend a day hiking at the Jeddediah State Park. The room was clean and comfortable. Has all basic amenities. The place is around 2 miles away from the hikes. The neighboring cafe serves great food.

A great economy hotel that harkens to a simpler time, very clean, fairly quiet. Very good to base out of for day hikes and reasonable as you'll find in the area. Right in the Jedediah State Park in the center of big redwood country. I highly reccommend this place.

The Best location for Smith River recreation. Not fancy, but clean rooms and great value. Office isn't always open, you may need to make a call and wait a spell to get your room key. Dog OK. Little Market across the street, otherwise you may need to go to Crescent City for eats.

Called ahead for reservation and got recording, "Hiouchi Motel and Storage Units, please leave your name and number".....Hmmm.. Maybe not a good sign...Decided to head that way anyway , take our chances rather than driving to Crescent City. Arrived to abasic 2 level motel, nothing fancy and not a single car in the motel lot. A note on the office...

We stayed there twice on our trip. We drove to No. Cal. from LA to visit our son stationed in Gasquet, CA. There really isn't any where else close by unless you want to stay in Crescent City. The first time we checked in, it was a Tuesday. Rate was $110/3 people. We thought, what a quaint little place in...
