Liked the hotel, the beds and pillows were very comfortable....would have liked a smart TV so I could watch MSGgo on the TV as PA does not get MSG. Lobby was really well decorated for Christmas, really festive. Breakfast was very light, would have liked toast, but the coffee was good.
Debbie was amazing. Love the way the lobby is decorated. Rooms nice and clean. Typical grab and go breakfast. Walking distance to a lot of local businesses. The location is right behind Hershey Park. Will be back. Thank you for all that you do in these times.
If you stay here, stay away from room 231 and 201. My shower didn't work and there was a HORRIBLE fan in a control room next door that Lela told me it was on every floor. Not so. After I went up and down, I discovered that was not true. I was even told that noise was needed for the "tvs" Really? I guess if this is the ONLY place left to stay, then be sure to check your room before you settle in. The 2 stars are because a couple of folks were nice, and location was good. But beware. PLUS, they charge you money for a safe - regardless of if you use it or not. That was never made clear in the reservations. ! COVID really created a problem for this hotel
The town of Hershey is the most inhospitable tourist trap I know of. The more you visit, the more you know that. Besides the town restaurants all synching their closing times with that of hersheypark, no one offers a way to get to the park but Hershey. This includes other Hershey venues like chocolate world, giant stadium, et cetera… you can’t get there from here. Walking has been made inhospitable as well as many hotels at the front of the park are located on roads without sidewalks. Hotels in the back of the park are connected by zoo America and a seemingly 20 year long sidewalk project, currently walkable but without any lighting, on the one road Hersheypark can be walked to on. Zoo America will not allow you to enter Hersheypark without a main gate entrance from earlier that day, and routinely closes an hour before the park seemingly for the exclusive reason of preventing guests from exiting to their hotels at the end of the day. Hersheypark and it’s contained facilities, with the exception of chocolate world, charge a minimum of $20 to enter their parking lot… which may be why walking has been made inhospitable. The shuttle services to Hersheypark is limited to four resorts, three of which are Hershey resorts. Though Hersheypark continues to remove hours and services from regular guest experiences and rebrands them as high tier pass or Hershey resort guest exclusives, Hershey resorts are not great choices in general. The Hersheypark camp resort is generally booked months in advance, the lodge doesn’t offer compelling amenities to justify its high prices. The hotel Hershey would be worth its price, however the “cheap” rooms (generally $500ish) are tiny. This Days Inn was once the the fourth and only non-Hershey resort to offer shuttle service to the park. This was the selling point; this was the insiders secret. Aside from that, this hotel could once be considered a crown jewel in the Wyndham portfolio. Though that sounds, and indeed is, like having the nicest house on a run down street, this Days Inn was once a perfectly acceptable hotel, even for those with higher standards than most. The amenities were once well worth the cost. Breakfast once consisted of hot egg dishes, a pair of waffle irons, a pancake machine, and various breads and sweets. Hotel services were expedient and reasonable. Free Parking was plentiful. The lobby and public areas were reasonably clean if a little understated, and the rooms were well appointed and acceptable. That’s all gone now, but the prices remain as they were. The cancellation of the Hersheypark shuttle is the largest single blow to this hotel’s offerings. This would be somewhat acceptable as we are still under a COVID threat as of this writing. This excuse seems to fall apart, however, as it is blamed on various vanished amenities. Nearly two years in, many businesses have had time to adapt policies and procedures to offer the best possible experience despite the ongoing pandemic. However, and in no way exclusive to this hotel… a bigger problem exists in this town… using the pandemic to deny customers of a good experience in the interest of saving money is many other businesses’ plan. From what I’ve experienced, and likely not exhaustive, The Day Inn Hershey has three main deductions of service which cite the pandemic as their elimination: 1 Hot breakfast. Breakfast now consists of a cheap corn syrup laden fruit cups, small wrapped muffins, oatmeal raisin granola bars, yogurt, and cereal. This is reasonable as we all know hot breakfast causes the spread of coronavirus. 2 The shuttle is not operating. The common areas, pool, arcade, fitness, and laundry centers have no restrictions. Masks are not worn by any staff, though this doesn’t bother me personally, it makes the suspension of the shuttle suspicious. 3 Rooms are not cleaned. Most hotels have reduced or suspended this service. Obviously keeping your hotel clean and your guests happy is an excellent way to spread coronavirus. Every hotel I have stayed in during the pandemic is aware that guests see this as a cost saving measure, and hotels are insensitivity using the deaths of millions as an excuse to not do their jobs. Though this is despicable behavior, most… all but this hotel in my experience… will allow you to opt in to cleaning service. There is no option for opting in here. Also calling down for supplies has been suspended for a new system- throwing all your linens, towels, and disposables in the hallway to signal you need these replaced or removed by cleaning staff the next morning Besides the vanishing amenities, this hotel has not been maintained well. In the 15 years my family has been returning to this hotel, the cumulative grime on the carpets has been an expansive problem, and never once did the hotel feel cleaner than on a previous stay. The two slow elevators are not reliable, feel dangerous, and are frequently locked by staff during cleaning (which is also checkout time). The rooms are badly outdated. The hot water no longer works, requiring a 10 minute ramp time to get a variable temperature 5 minute shower in before the system fails to a dangerous (either hot or cold) level. Rooms have been added where there were once likely maintenance closets, but the parking lot has not been expanded. If you’re late coming back and the hotel is booked, you will have to park off site somewhere. This is particularly annoying given that one of the non-operating shuttles occupies a prime spot in the garage. Things that were quick-fixed years ago are falling apart, having never been properly repaired. The general indoor lighting is inconsistent in color and brightness giving an especially unrefined vibe to the hallways, accentuated by the previously mentioned badly stained carpets. Dead insects are smeared across every exterior window, even in areas with seasonal decorations that obviously required lift machinery to access (take a squeegee up with you on the lift next time… it can’t hurt). Furniture is missing from some rooms… our first room had one bed, no seating, no pull out sofa, and the front desk staff had no idea where it all went. This would easily be a one star review, but the staff deserve a star here. Despite the hotel being booked fully on our stay, the front desk was able to superbly accommodate our family when beds and furniture was missing from our initial room. The staff likely had to then quickly replace the missing furniture before the next guest arrived. The cleaning staff is welcoming and friendly as you pass them in the halls. It is clear they are making the best of a bad situation, and cumulatively the service exceeds the star rating of this facility.…
This was a great kid friendly place to stay. It was clean and well kept. The staff was great and eager to help in every way we needed. The location to Hershey Park could not have been any better. We were five min. from the entrance and yet there was little traffic to deal with. If you are visiting Hershey Park this is the place to stay.
