Probably one of the most extraordinary place we have been in Asia. Who never dreamt to spend some real time in a true chinese museum with numerous courtyards very nicely decorated and preserved formore than one century. You can do it and it is not expensive !! The room that we had was perfectly comfortable and clean. It is true... More

The large estate of the wealthy Zhu family was transformed not only into a museum that is now #1 site to visit in Jianshui (ahead of the beautiful Confucius temple and gardens) but also part of it is now a charming boutique hotel. You feel transported one hundred and fifty years ago into Imperial times, while exploring the many courtyards... More

This Hotel is inside the Jhujia Garden - West Gate of Jian Shui, where there were many famous and respective scholars raised during the Ming & Ching Dynasties. The whole building complex has been restored and part of it becomes the hotel. To begin with, the ancient Chinese beds are provided in all rooms. The bed is roughly 3-1/2 feet... More

This is a very good hotel but not because the hotel is very good but because it’s such a unique and different place to stay. One night is enough to take in the experience as anything more than that will reveal its shortcomings as a hotel and an extended stay would just be irritating. The good: suite #421 is as... More

When Jacky (Jacky's guesthouse in Yuanyang) told me it was possible again to sleep at this old mansion I was thrilled and I was very happy with our reservation although we had to pay for a suite because it was fully booked. To arrive here was great and I was looking forward to our night when all the tourists had... More

This is a very pleasant and authentic restaurant located opposite Zhus’ Garden. When we visited it seemed very busy yet the food appeared quite quickly. Drinks seemed very reasonably priced the only problem we had was that virtually all of the various dishes we had were extremely hot/spicy which wasn't what we expected.

We found it difficult to book this hotel as the phone no available on many web searches was no longer in use. Our friendly staff at the Arro Khampa in Shangri-la managed to track them down through her network and we got two suites booked at CNY1,460.- It's quite pricey for what we've got in term of quality and comfort.... First of all, it's true that it's a unique experience: sleeping in an authentic old mansion with beautiful courtyards, antique furniture and flowers. However, it is a musem which means that hordes of tourists start trooping around the buildings from an early hour (07h30?) destroying any intimacy and tranquility. Also, the rooms are pretty basic. Above all, we had to... More

It was quite a unique experience to stay in such a big old mansion which also doubles-up as a museum. Loved the beautiful courtyards and the ancient feel. The rooms are tiny and the service is nothing to shout about.

They avoid the classification of hotel by using the term in Chinese as specialty lodging and do not even have a Chinese star rating. But for the price you can do better. Just pay for the ticket price because most of the rooms are closed because they are hotel rooms, The main problem is the bathroom. Do not lift up... More
