The Bear Hotel is much more than a hotel...it is pouring with rain and Lucy beckons but where to eat ...you look at the usual coffee shops but then the Bear Hotel with its large windows on Devizes's magnificent market square revealed its welcoming log fire...a great draw. Food was ordered and served fresh and with little wait accompanied by... More

My husband, daughter and I stayed at The Bear Hotel Sunday evening. We had booked, at very short notice, with Expedia and ended up getting a very good room rate for our family room. On arrival, staff were very helpful and check-in speedy. The ambience, even in the lobby, was lovely. Very old style, with an aura of tranquility. Our... More

we stayed overnight as a group for a 60th birthday celebration, a special dinner for 10 was organised, and we then went to an evening of 'blues' in the cellar bar. The hotel is well situated for visiting the area (ie 22 miles to Longleat). We will certainly be going back to stay longer and visit the local attractions.

stayed for one night in room 7, double room with four poster bed. Even though the room overlooked the Market Square it wasn't noisy. The room is just fine, not particularly modern but large and clean with a lovely big bath. The staff were helpful and friendly and it was certainly a better choice than they original inn we had... We booked a table for 6 of us for 7pm. The table was ready and a very friendly waiter showed us to it. The meals were top class and served quickly and hot. Everyone said they had enjoyed their meal backed up by six empty plates. The sweets were just as good. The table service was excellent we will certainly... More

My friend was playing blues in the downstairs Cellar Bar so we had a meal before his performance. The upstairs hotel restaurant and bar areas are really welcoming and nicely lit, and the staff at this hotel couldn't be nicer and more accommodating if they tried. The whole place had a very warm atmosphere to it in all aspects. The... More

A lovely old fashioned quirky hotel with first class amenities, so full of history and atmosphere it was an absolute joy to stay for two nights. The staff on all counts were superb, polite, helpful, enthusiastic in their routines. I can thoroughly recommend a stay here and we indeed as a family will in future return. All meals were well... Atmosphere and character. The property is an excellent example of a traditional market town establishment - good food, friendly and responsive staff and a meeting place for locals. The booking information states that the hotel is a good venue for disabled. To access the reception, function rooms or Bistro there are steps to negotiate - there are lots of stairs.... More

This was our second visit to The Bear but our first overnight stay, we were on the second floor in room 28, it was a great room, lovely large double sink bathroom with good shower. Kettle with tea, coffee and biscuits and a hairdryer that is inside and attached to the dressing table drawer. Old period furniture, chairs and table,... More
