For a group of friends looking for an affordable golf break you just can’t beat it. The course is challenging without too much danger to make it unplayable for high handicappers. The food is great and far better than they could get away with given it’s included in the cost. The portions also mean you won’t leave hungry. The rooms are ideal. As a whole it’s clear to see this place aims to win repeat custom throughout the year and I’d be surprised if anyone only ever goes once. We’re booked up to go again next year and I’m sure that’ll be the case for many.

Lovely views, comfortable bed but horrible synthetic duvet. Huge bathroom and good shower and bath but room smelt damp/musty, window mouldy/dirty and carpet felt unclean underfoot. My son had a chicken salad which he enjoyed but my halloumi salad consisted of 3 doorsteps of deep fried halloumi and a couple of daggy pieces of lettuce with the scrapings from a cucumber. I complained when I checked out and the man very kindly said we didn't have to pay for either. Breakfast was weird - horrible coffee/tea machine, good mushrooms (very tasty) but teen said sausages horrible. I don't know where the 'award winning restaurant' citation comes from 🤷🏻‍♀️ It all feels old, tired, very old fashioned - full of male golfers - very much a man's club

Response from Simon Final, General Manager at Bowood Park Hotel & Golf Club
Responded 10 Oct 2022
I am sorry that we did not meet your expectations; although we are a golf club that caters for both men and women without discrimination, we have many thousands of happy guests who do not play golf and, as the many hundreds of reviews show, have a great time with us. I have shown your comments to the head chef who has taken them into consideration. Had you taken the time to point out any of the things that upset you during your stay, we would have been more than happy to help resolve them. I am sorry that we missed the opportunity. Thank you for your comments, and I hope you move on to a more suitable hotel.

We stayed to visit attractions in the area. The rooms were comfortable and well appointed. Mine felt under furnished it was so big. We felt that some of the rooms were a little tired and could do with an update. Unless you are familiar with them, the coffee machines were hard to work as the instructions were brief. The food is good and the staff very accommodating. One particular female member of staff seemed to always be on duty smiling and helping with anything we needed. We liked the option to make it clear that you do not want housekeeping to enter your room during your stay and that you can get your towels changed without anyone coming in if that suits you.

Having spent two nights and three rounds of golf here this weekend (not the first time, and certainly not the last), I think this is the best value and more importantly quality there is to be had. Have been to many courses around Devon/Cornwall area (and beyond!) for the weekend this is my favourite by far! (St Pierre is close! Nust way more expensive,!) The golf course is amazing, front 9 is challenging but forgiving, and the back 9 sorts the men from the boys! Risk reward holes and many that require thought and precision, love this course! Greens are always good. Really firm and plenty of undulations The hotel is family run, with all of the staff friendly & helpful. Easy to overlook the difference that the staff make for your weekend, but they all went above and beyond. The food is quality!! Great choice on the menu, steaks are quality and cooked to perfection (included in the price for the weekend). The fish chouder was apparently amazing, didnt hear any complaints from our group, everyyone loved their meals. Never seen bacon like we had on Sunday morning for breakfast, looked like it also came from the local butchers as was steak like! The rooms are modern, clean and all that you need for a weekend away. Pool table, Darts, and a real freindly feeling all weekend in the Bar/ Restaurant. Seems to only ever be two or three groups so not overcrowded. Love this place and will continue to visit every year!

13 of us spent 3 nights here on a golfing holiday and we all agreed it was amazing value for money. The course is well maintained and has some really great holes. We played here 2 days and Perranporth and Carlyon Bay the other 2 days. It was a much better course in our opinion than the other two. The staff were so friendly and really took care of us. Breakfast was very good. The evening meal had a good choice rather than the usual steak and ale pie or gammon and chips. The rooms were a good standard too. We're booking for next year which says it all really.

Excellent, professional and very friendly service from every member of staff encountered throughout our visit. Good menu and very nice food all served hot and with a smile. Course is a great layout and in great condition for our visit, albeit the greens being fairly slow due to a fair bit of rain in the days prior to our visit. We’ll stocked pro shop and plenty of buggies for hire, so all in all a great time was had by us all.

Visited with a coach party for a 4 night stay touring Cornwall. As a driver, I stay in a lot of hotels and this one is outstanding! We were looked after so well by all of the staff there and Simon the manager was particularly brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble. Clean spacious comfortable rooms, and the food served was absolutely excellent. Look forward to a return visit, either with the company or just myself and my partner as a private holiday. We had an amazing time, many thanks to all who work there.

Lovely hotel with beautiful surroundings. Cannot fault the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. You were made to feel very welcome. Our room was a basic room. Which was ok but a bit tired the same as the bathroom. The food in the restaurant/bar was lovely however I would like to see abit more choice that isn't chips.
