My wife and I stayed one night at the Econo Lodge in Wilkes-Barre with our dog while passing through the area. Staff were friendly at check in and room seemed nice and it was a nice stay until the morning. When we woke up, there were a large number of ants in the room. It looked like a previous guests may have spilled something and it was not cleaned thoroughly as there were a large number of ants along the floor. They didn't climb onto the beds and get on us or our luggage, but we did have to brush the dog to get a few out of his fur. No one was at the front desk when I went to check out and we just wanted to get out of there. But I would not stay here again given the ant infestation.
A really nice decent place to spend the night passing through on the highway. Nothing fancy, but it is clean and seems that the rooms have been kept up-to-date nicely. All staff interactions were good. Easy access from the highway. They have eliminated breakfast due to the pandemic. Wi-Fi worked well. Would recommend, and would stay again. I am puzzled by the very high review average, just manage your expectations and do not expect a shiny new Hilton.
staying just a night in the area difficult to find a decent hotel without paying an arm and leg in the area so decided to go with Econo Lodge based on the reviews which unfortunately just do not understand how this establishment got the reviews it did. the positive was the room was well appointed and pretty clean after that it was all down hill from there. shortly after checking in tried to flush the toilet with nothing in it and wouldn't flush right, reported to staff on the way out to dinner and was asked if I wanted a plunger to try and unclog or change rooms, didn't want to repack to just took the plunger smh. walls are paper thin, have never stayed in a hotel where you could actually hear the foot steps from the rooms on either side, not talking about someone above or below shaking the floor, just simple walking could be heard on the floor, shower water in the morning borderline cold, ac/heater unit was worthless as unit barely came on through the night making the room warm and stuffy. This place would be ok if it was the average econo lodge budget hotel pricing, due to the area was almost 120 bucks for a basic room so not close to that kind of money…
This was an overnight stop on our way to Mass. The Econo lodge brand has fallen off and I was wary of staying here. The reviews from those with experience convinced me to give it a try. The really high rates in the WB-Scranton also made me look harder. Pluses : Housekeeping was a solid 5. Not having carpet does make it easier.Everything was clean,. Everything worked and was there. Shower was great. Non slip floor. Towels were soft. Bed was good.Fridg had a small freezer part. Ac worked well. Lighting fine. Most important : Bug traps placed between box springs and mattress were EMPTY. Minus : No "sitting " chair, just a metal/plastic basic desk chair. Ok for overnight but not for spending any time in the room. No carpet does take away from any " warmth" , so no carpet is a mixed bag for a budget motel. Location in front and left and right are ok but rear is very close to the interstate and there is noise. The ac covers it mostly though. While the location is safe and I did feel safe, there were a lot construction workers there. I guess when you are the lowest price hotel you will have them. No problems though. If you are looking for an overnight stay that is very basic but CLEAN I would recommend. Breakfast was minimal…
Clean and decent rooms. Don’t let the hallway scare you (one day they will change the carpet & paint.) Margie at the front desk was super nice and very helpful. An acceptable stop along the way if you ignore the smell of smoke in the hallway carpet.
