My wife and I chose this hotel for the close proximity to many downtown Charleston restaurants and sights. Stayed on the 11th floor and had a great view of the Bridge and the USS Yorktown across the river at patriots point. The hotel is nearly a century old and the decor has a certain old charm to it with ornate...

We spent three nights at this hotel and overall it was a fine experience. The hotel is right downtown and on the main street in town. We were greeted at the sidewalk and our car was parked for us. You can save $5.00/day by self-parking, but we didn't realize it. Our bags were taken right to our room as we...

I'm thrilled to hear that the nights you spent with us were so lovely, and that our staff made you feel right at home! (Glad you got a chance to check out the Swamp Fox as well.) Hope we'll have the pleasure of welcoming you back for another delightful stay in Charleston very soon. Take care, Stephen Parker, Hotel Manager

The hotel is perfectly located for sightseeing in Charleston. Almost all of the major sites ( Aquarium, harbor tours, carriage rides, Fort Sumter, Charleston Museum, Daughters of the Confederacy Museum, and Slave Mart are within a 20 minute walk of the hotel. The personnel were extremely polite and helpful. The hotel is showing its age and the plumbing was problematic,...

This was quite a last minute booking for the weekend in Charleston. It also happened to be the weekend before the College of Charleston had its orientation for new students so the towns hotels were already heavily booked. Fortunately, we were ab;e to secure a room at the Francis Marion. I was slightly sceptical given the very high room rate...

Glad you made it out to see us last minute and were so pleasantly surprised with the quality of your stay! There's no higher compliment than that. It sounds like you were able to make full use of our central location, too, which is exciting. Hope you'll be back again sooner rather than later! Take care, Stephen Parker, Hotel Manager

Bed bugs all over, bad plumbing in 2 different rooms and all the management did was begrudgingly offer a free night stay to make up for it. Ugh. It is a beautiful old hotel with a nice staff. But I had a miserable time there. My luggage is all quarantined in the garage.

I'm extremely concerned to see this review, Andrew! This is definitely not at all the norm for us, and I am so sorry you had such an uncomfortable stay. We strive to keep our hotel clean and safe for all our guests. Please contact me to discuss this matter in more detail. Take care, Stephen Parker, Hotel Manager

I must say that in the very touristic city of Charleston I was expecting much more than what we got. The hotel is very old, and you can notice it in many ways. The carpets, the lifts, the toilets, it all shows its age. Some rooms (and I was so unlucky to try 3) are really bad; at the first...

The last thing we ever want to hear is that you were disappointed with your stay! I'm so sorry the room wasn't quite what you had hoped for. As a historic hotel, built in 1924, we're working with limited space and resources, but we're always in the process of renovating and improving. I'm glad the staff was able to help...

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for our 1 year anniversary over July 4th weekend. I was a little skeptical when booking due to the mixed reviews about some of the rooms being outdated. To my surprise, the hotel staff did everything possible to make our stay special and comfortable. I had put a request in weeks before...

I attended a gathering for a moms getaway weekend at The Francis Marion. The staff provided the warmth and Southern hospitality that I had hoped to experience. There was an issue with the water pressure and they compensated us for any inconvenience. The food was amazing and the style of the hotel was absolutely stunning. I look forward to visiting...

I'm so happy to hear that your getaway weekend was full of warmth, fun, delicious food, and plenty of old-fashioned Southern hospitality! That's always our goal, and it means a lot to hear that you'd love to stay with us again in the future. Hope to welcome you back soon! Take care, Stephen Parker, Hotel Manager

Firstly, this hotel may be worth it just because of the ideal location in downtown Charleston--central location to many great restaurants, shopping, waterfront, etc. With that, however, I will say I was a bit disappointed in the hotel itself. It is a beautiful building with much potential, but the amenities were cheap and/or dated. The bathroom looked like a bathroom...

There's nothing quite like a central downtown location on a vacation, is there? I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed that aspect of your stay with us, but of course, it's a bit disappointing to know that the room itself wasn't quite up to your expectations. As an older hotel, built in 1924, it's true that we're working with...

While staying at the Francis Marion for a conference, the hotel encountered a water supply problem that affected the majority of the rooms. They had an excellent response to the 12 hour problem, ensuring adequate drinking water availability and a very acceptable compensation. Isabelle at the front desk was very compassionate.
