You truly feel like you stepped into another world when crossing the bridge onto Fripp Island. Wildlife is so abundant.
Mosquitos are quite abundant toward dusk.
Have drivers license ready when approaching gate house.

My dad retired from the Marines and I grew up in the area for some years but I always go back every summer to Fripp Island and Beaufort both places are layed back and beautiful. However it is a little drive to Parris Island around 30 min. If you were staying several days then it would be worth it staying at Fripp because the hotels fill up fast. I don't know when his graduation is but you may want to check Bed and Breakfast or hotels in Port Royal if there is any available.

Oceanfront would be on Marlin, Tarpon or some of the beach access roads like Flying Fish. John Fripp villas are oceanfront and very close to the beach club pool. The beach in the Ocean Point area where the New Haven condos are is rocky and low tide only. We normally stay in the Ocean Point area where you have ocean views and take the golf cart to the beach.
The resort is houses, condos, several pools, golf courses, restaurants, etc.
Look at the Fripp Island Resort website it will give you a good description and rating of the properties available. Keep in mind everyone over 12 must have an amenity card to use the pools and go to the pools and restaurants. They are $50 each. If you rent through the resort they are included. Also most of the rentals include a golf cart. The houses in the Veranda Beach area normally have a view of the pool complex (the largest and best for kids) and the ocean. From there you can walk to the pools and the activity center.
Most of the beach is very nice to play on especially in the center, the beach club area or the accesses down from it. The golf carts are a must for gettng around on the island so it really doesn't matter where you stay.
