A little hard to find but its much quieter than others off main road. Bathrooms are soooo clean. Folks are very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Easy access to Rushmore and Custer park. Sites are gravel, some are shaded. Nice store with basics.

Horse Thief Campground and RV resort was awesome! We were tent camping and the grounds were clean and flat. The bathrooms though were the best part! Most camp grounds have gross bathrooms. These were always clean and the showers were very clean. We will stay here again when we visit the Black Hills. The campground also has a pool and...

We stayed at Horse Thief twice--Sept 2015 and Sept 2014. The campground is quiet, clean and more secluded than most campgrounds with all the amenities you could wish for. It is in a beautiful setting the the Black Hills in the town of Hill City, which is a very central location and the perfect place to stay when touring the...

Staff were very friendly and helpful in the well-stocked store. Good pull through site. Bathrooms were clean and well-maintained. Good playground for the kids and swimming pool available (though we didn't try it). Great location just a few minutes from Mount Rushmore and nicely located in the hillside forest. A very lively campground. There was a bit of black-water smell...

My husband and I made our first trip to South Dakota. We were pulling a travel trailer. We stayed on a lot with full hookups and sewer. Most of the sites are surrounded with trees on grassy lots. The campground is big enough to take a good walk without leaving the resort. There is a well stocked store on the...

If you try to book last minute at Custer State Park and couldn't get in--this is the campground for you! There was a marmot that was stalking us. He would come out and inquisitively stare at us for a while, poop on the rocks nearby and then take off. That was his cycle of activities. Marmots have a great life...

We spent 4 nights here tent camping. The tent sites are very nice. They are in a valley, away from the RVs, and they are large and spread out. The campground itself is not near a busy highway, and a few miles from town, so it was quiet. It is also centrally located to the tourist attractions. The little store...

We tent camped three nights at the Horse Thief Campground. Our spot was well shaded and slightly secluded- exactly what we requested. The showers and restrooms are modern and were very clean. Quiet hours were respected, making for a good night's sleep. The small store has treats and the basics. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Technology usage is...

Yes the Internet is slow, but it's hard in these type of hills to get any internet connection...owners were super nice, pool was clean and warm, bathrooms were new and clean, and cabin was cute and clean. My kids loved mining at their kid mine. Store was stocked full of supplies, including the sour cream we needed for our tacos!...

We stayed here for six nights in a travel trailer with our three kids. We had a pull thru site with water, electric and sewer. The owners were friendly, helpful and exceptionally kind to our kids. There is reasonably priced laundry on site. The camp site was a little tight but far superior to just about everything else we seen...
