Very friendly staff, the old giant dog, Jerry Garcia, was great. Good place to wait out the cold spell. Three shopping shuttles a day and they go out of their way if you need to visit other places like urgent care. Also have bicycles to ride around town. "Rolling" sobo 2016

My wife and I (Thumper and Slack pack) stayed 4 nights in a cabin at Uncle Johnny's. The cabin was clean, located perfectly for our hikes and a wonderful retreat. The staff was friendly, helpful, and well informed about the area. Uncle Johnny even fixed my hiking poles with no charge. As seniors we found it perfect place to visit.

On a northbound hike from Springer I stayed at Uncle Johnnies and would give it six stars if I could. I stayed in the bunkhouse which is cheap, simple but comfortable and clean. Private rooms are also available. When I checked in, the friendly staff told me that Jerry Garcia slept on the couch in the bunk room and if... More

My husband and I left last Sunday after our 3rd trip to Uncle Johnny's! Uncle Johnny and his staff are the most friendly hospitable people ever!! We love the selection of being able to stay in the Hammock shelter (our favorite), a cabin, the hostel or pitch our own tent. The selection in the outfitter store is great. Uncle Johnny... More

They provide you with a clean room at a reasonable rate and 3 free shuttle trips per day into town. Very casual and hikers are coming and going. Stayed in Cabin... More

This Hostel is on the Nolichucky River and "inches" away from the Appalachian Trail A friend and I stayed 2 nights at Uncle Johnny's this week. Had a blast. I'm not a hiker, but, it's a great place for hikers to rest and re-stock their supplies. I stayed in one of their cabins with all the conveniences of home. Lovely... More

I spent one night at Johnny,s and I wasn't expecting a lot for $20. But I wasn't ready to find out that a large dog used the couch in the bunk house as his bed. When I and other guests complained the staff removed the dog but the dog smell remained.

Will Rogers once said "When I die and if I go to heaven, if there are no dogs there, I want to go somewhere else". That's the way Charlotte and I feel about Jerry Garcia, our hostel dog. Last year Jerry met over 3500 guests and 250 hiker dogs that feel the same way. Jerry is a lovable , sometimes... More
