This was a three day stay to visit the Pickett-Pogue Dark Sky Park for the Persied meteor shower. As a result the hours staying in the room were weird, since viewing was from 10PM to 4AM two of three days. This review is going to sound critical, but in fact I had a wonderful time because the staff were so friendly I felt like family before I left. Also, it is obvious that these folks are new at being hoteliers, and are learning as they go, and are trying hard. They are also physically renovating the place as they go, which has to be a lot of work, as this is an older facility that apparently was abandoned for some time. Stayed in the lodge rather than the cabins. The room was small but clean, lacked a closet, hair dryer, coffee service and other things you expect at a decent motel. There was only one plastic cup in the bathroom, and no ice bucket. The room had been newly renovated with new flooring, paint/stain, a new TV, etc. The room had doors to the front and also to the large quiet deck on the back side of the building with tables and chairs for relaxing while looking at the deep woods. There was no daily maid service, but they were quick to respond with fresh bedding after a spill, and quickly provided fresh towels, cups, etc. when asked. The bed was very comfortable and the room certainly met all my needs; "rustic" is the word that comes to mind. The food was excellent, and the prices reasonable (though the steak dinner seemed a little expensive proportional to the prices of everything else). As someone else mentioned, the west-facing dining room windows need shades as the afternoon sun was blazingly bright and hot. Breakfast was served buffet style, and included freshly scrambled real eggs, crisp bacon or home made sausage patties, and either pancakes or biscuits and sausage gravy, depending on the day. OJ, milk and ice water were available, along with regular or decaf coffee. Didn't go away hungry! And Dan's home made ice cream is a must try. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay and will stay there next year when the Persieds come around again.…
