I spent three nights at the Lydford Country House hotel in late June as a base to go walking across Dartmoor. I was apprehensive as to what I might have booked, so was very pleasantly surprised by finding a lovely country hotel, well run, friendly, homely, and professional throughout. I was won over almost immediately by the charm and courtesy...

an ideal stopover location for a journey from the midlands to cornwall welcoming, characterful and importantly for us - pet [cat] friendly. Near to Lydford Gorge a well known West Country beauty spot on the edge of Dartmoor. Would certainly return.

Beautiful place, nice people, the standard of cleaning of the rooms is excellent, the beds are very comfy. Plenty to keep you busy, go and visit the gorge and the Moore or just to relax. Hopefully we will be able to get back there. The food in the restaurant was excellent and of very high quality.

Brief visit made with family. Excellent warm welcome from the duty manager, Sam. Located in well kept surroundings which are a pleasure to look at. Breakfast choice - more than adequate - ( though possibly could be further improved with some pots of fruity local yoghurt ? - but that's being a bit picky). Cooked breakfast - superb- well presented...

The house was clean and well presented. Overseen by Sam who greeted us as friends and took a real interest in what we needed. The room looked brand new and the whole house was decorated to our taste. We used it as a stop on the way to the lost gardens of Heligan as we wanted to go to Lydford...

A short break to get away from it all, this time with our new hound, and it was a joy. The owners and staff are exceptional, the room clean and contemporary and breakfast superb. We were welcomed with our dog and a fuss was made of her during the stay, a home from home for sure. You have access to...

My partner and I happened across this beautiful hotel when we came to the end of the local cycle track on 13th May. First impressions were "wow", the plush and beautifully well kept garden to the left of the entrance looked inviting for a sun bathe and the general ora was peaceful. After locking out bikes up we headed inside...

What a welcome site after a days cycling along the coast to coast. You come off the track turn left and hotel is literally there. Great location. Beautiful house; in lovely grounds. Our room was lovely; tastefully decorated. Huge four-poster bed very comfortable and luxurious sheets. Good bathtub to rest weary legs! A short walk up to the pub for...

This was beautiful! The area is gorgeous, with the park, animals, and the gorge. Our 2 year old kept calling to Copper and Todd from The Fox and the Hound, thinking that's where we were! The breakfast was great, and our room was very comfortable. We had a triple, with plenty of space for our two young kiddos. The stairs...

Having stayed at Lydford House with several different owners, this was our first visit under the stewardship of Jodie and her new team. We were delighted to see that the house is in good hands again and we had a wonderful four-day break. The rooms are comfortable and spotlessly clean and the food was excellent. We were made extremely welcome...
