Sam knows his clientele and provides a lovely home away from home feel. The small hotel is set on lovely grounds with several seating areas. We stayed in the Vinery, a nice sized room overlooking the garden, and the glass roof of the greenhouse style sitting room that runs the length of the hotel on the ground floor. Small but...

It must be extremely difficult for a hotel to maintain very high standards but this is exactly what Huw, Sam and their team seem able to do. The hotel and rooms are kept in perfect condition and the food is superb. So many past guests return again and again that you are quite unlikely to get a reservation at short...

Without doubt the best hotel we have stayed in. I wish we had found the Old Rectory earlier. The food was wonderful, the wine list extensive yet fairly priced. Sam and Huw have found the formula for a great hotel experience - efficient yet without the formality of large chains or grand country style hotels. Do yourself a favour and...

A warm welcome as you arrive in the hotel, on a crisp autumn afternoon the hotel and our room was cosy and warm , Sam and Huw were there delightful selves and the staff polite and efficient. To make the 5 day break complete the weather was excellent with...

I don't normally do reviews and The Old Rectory doesn't really need any as you can see from the other plaudits! However it was recommended to us by a friend and we managed to book a 3 night DB&B break at short notice as a result of a last minute cancellation. Our very good fortune as this really is a...

A gem of a hotel, wonderful food and service. After a good walk along the Exmoor coastal path to return to complimentary tea and homemade cake is just one of the nice touches to be found here. This is our 2nd visit and we will be returning for more.

When friends told us they had found this amazing hotel to meet up I don't think we were expecting such a tranquil find! The hotel was truly fantastic. I couldn't fault anything, and we will definitely return in the near future.

This former rectory in Martinhoe is a haven of peace and quiet where hosts Sam and Huw and their team ensure a relaxing stay. Never intrusive but always willing to help do everything to make our stay enjoyable. Food and drink very good. Rooms excellent. Location superb for this part of the North Devon coast. Thanks.

Just to thank you for the lovely few days we spent with you. It was so good to be with you again. My favourite room - Arlington, great food and, as ever, amazing service. Huw and Sam, you make it very special by your personal service. We feel important to you and that makes such a difference. Thanks to all...
