We were visiting my wife's family in nearby Bellshill. The location of this hotel is at the edge of Strathclyde Park, where the magnificent man-made Strathclyde loch can be found.

The hotel is comparable to Premier Inn and Travelodge levels. The main different being the bar and lounge area, where the inclusive breakfast is served and there is an option for dinner. Breakfast during lockdown was a little different. Normally there is a hot buffet, but under the lockdown guidance, you requested what you want and the staff served you from behind a screen.

The rooms are ideal size for couples, but a bit cramped for us, as we had our 3 year old, so the sofa bed was constantly openly and this impeded movement, as it was between bathroom and the main bed. In other hotels, the sofa bed would've been under the window, which is less obstructive.

Overall, this hotel offers everything you would expect for the price. It is a comfortable, no fuss base. It is as popular with workman visiting the area as it is with leisure travellers. It is close to other similar hotels offering similar standards such as Innkeepers Lodge and Premier Inn, but the inclusive breakfast give it the edge.

We have just had a one night stay here and, after reading some very negative reviews, have been pleasantly surprised. We checked in very quickly and were welcomed by a very pleasant member of staff. The hotel is spotless. First impression was the fresh smell of cleaning products as we came out of the lift. Rooms are not huge but perfectly adequate for two people. Bedrooms seem to have been recently refurbished, bathroom with walk in shower and lovely big white fluffy towels was very good. Breakfast was piping hot, replenished frequently and the two young folk clearing tables and filling up food, crockery etc did a great job. Will definitely use hotel again.

Arrived with family and were allocated two rooms. My brother in law upon opening room door was surprised to find an open suitcase on the bed and personal items on the table. Immediately left room, returned to reception to explain situation which appeared to cause a panic with staff. No sensible explanation as to how this could have happened but another room was allocated. Rooms were clean and comfortable for our stay. Breakfast was a shambles. Although the hotel was busy there is no excuse for tables being left uncleared and cleaned for over half an hour, in fact some tables were not cleared in the time we were in the breakfast room. There appeared to be plenty staff but no management directing them. The hotel provides good value for money but it does appear to lack a leader who can manage to the standard required.

MNic55, I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t have a great experience with us and I can assure you this is not the standards that I have for the hotel. We are all human and the member of staff who allocated your room has obviously just made a mistake but I’m glad this was rectified quickly. As we are a fairly small team our team have a lots of different tasks to do especially during breakfast- I do certainly agree the turn around on tables should be faster and I will be sure to speak to everyone on expectations that I have for this. We do also have a few new staff members who are still finding their feet with the job which I’m sure would not be the case should you stay with us again. Kindest regards, Stuart

Friendly staff a nice smile on arrival we were made to feel very welcome. A clean & comfy room. A good nights sleep. We didn’t eat here so can’t comment on the food. We would stay here again for sure. Staff were helpful calling a taxi for us. No issues at all.

I have recently visited 3 Holiday Inn Express' in the past 8 days and this one really let itself down. On face value it looks ok but when we arrived we didn't have enough towels, cups or milk for three of us staying. The breakfast was painfully slow. One person serving take out hot breakfasts, tea/coffee, cereal etc.. It took ages and it doesn't work with everyone queuing up within close proximity of each other. You have to ask for everything. I suggest you use Edinburgh Holiday Inn Express (Ocean Terminal) for good practice particularly cleaniness and great service, where guests can be trusted to serve themselves and it was cleaner. Plus there was more staff.
The tables at this Holiday Inn were not cleaned after people had used them which totally defeats the object of covid cleanliness. We were also told trays and rubbish would be cleared from our room this didn't happen either. I believe they were under staffed which looks like a cost cutting excercise which in turn affects customer service and cleaniness.

Dear LCPainting, Thank you for taking the time to post a review regarding your recent stay with us. I am disappointed to read your comments and will be reviewing all procedures with the team to ensure all procedures are being followed at all times. We have received many positive comments regarding procedures around cleanliness since the hotel reopened. Because of the layout of our buffet area, a decision was taken to make it a served hot breakfast, rather than just a grab and go cold offering. All tables are sanitised after use and staff will be retrained to ensure that this is being done on every occasion. In regards to removing rubbish from your room, our policy currently is that we will not enter your room during your stay unless specifically requested to do so, and we ask guests to leave any refuse or food trays outside their room for collection by staff. If you would like to discuss the matter further, please contact me directly at gm@hiexstrathclyde.co.uk Kind Regards Claire Duncan General Manager

Absolutely chaotic scenes at breakfast, shambolic at best dirty floors, tables not cleaned, cups for hot drinks or juice one coffee machine working ten minute cue before you even start to gather breakfast. No hand gel left in bottle or machine. Lots of people with no masks on people touching food with hands. I said to one Guest to use tongs rather than search through food with their hands and was shouted at and abused in front of whole restaurant and no sign of staff to sort out the abusive woman or ask her to calm down.
The bed rooms are old, bathrooms were updated and nice but as I say bedrooms are dated. The bed are so soft and low it’s like being on a waterbed, so soft it’s hard to get up out of bed. The bedroom looks like there has been a attempt to make it modern it’s the beds that need changed, we had two rooms and both were the same and we all had a horrible nights sleep.
After breakfast we couldn’t wait to leave. I will never recommend this hotel to anyone nor stay again.

Stayed here with a large group for just over 2 weeks. The staff were so helpful and friendly. They cleaned our rooms based around our shifts and if anything needed doing in-between they were super accommodating. At meals times they did a great job of getting people something if they didn't like what was on offer. Always had a smile on their faces despite having to stay up late when we wouldn't leave the bar. Also really helpful when it came to advising us about local things to do and calling taxis. Made being away from home much easier.

Myself & family stayed here for a few days while visiting family on arrival we were greeted by Mark on reception who made us feel welcome. We were given two rooms on the second floor rooms were lovely and clean beds were comfortable, we didn't have an iron in our room and an ironing board in the other room went to see Mark on reception who was very apologetic and sorted it straight away nothing was to much trouble for him done everything he could to help. Breakfast buffet was lovely especially the scrambled eggs there was a variety of things to choose from I would definitely stay here again

Most of our preferred places to stay were already booked up so we had to settle for this hotel. I booked two rooms. One for myself and the other for my sister and brother in law.
On check in we waited ages. Couldn’t even find/see a member of staff and about 5/10mins we spotted a lady who was serving food/ drinks and she came over to check us in.
Sister and brother in laws room had stains all over the sofa, hairs in the bed, stains all over the mattress protector and pellet like things in the corner of the room so asked to be moved which they did.
The stairwell was not cleaned once during our stay and we stayed for 3 nights. It needed a good hoover and wash and on our final nights stay the hallway on level one looked like it hadn’t been hoovered for a couple of days.
We found this hotel to be terribly noisy. You could here everything. Doors were slammed and some people just didn’t care about how loud they were and this was extremely late at night/ early hours.I could here the gentleman in the opposite room snoring. It was so loud. Can hear people walking about all the time.
Breakfast was chaotic, cold and tasted awful. The breakfast room itself was cold. Lots of stains on chairs and the sofas in the communal areas.
Drinks in the evening, well there was hardly any choice. Very poorly stocked bar.
On checkout we weren’t even asked if we enjoyed our stay or even a thank you for staying.
It’s generally in clean, in welcome and would never stay here again.

Stayed here for a family weekend as we were attending a local nearby event! Upon arrival first impressions were not great over flowing bin outside main entrance with seagulls eating in to it.. check in was quick & efficient & were given room 18 on ground floor, thought brill as we had a child with us, entered the room & the smell was unbearable it was like wet dog! Went to reception to ask for air freshener & given dehumidifier, on closer inspection of room pulled back curtains & under window was full of black mould… went back to reception asked to change rooms & told hotel full but will send my manager, along came a young lady blamed housekeeping & said she wouldn’t stay in that room & moved us to room 242 on 2nd floor, although this room smelt ok the cleaning of the room was definitely poor crumbs still on carpet bathroom mirror not clean.. the whole weekend somewhere in the hotel would be a foul smell never had this before…
Now for our first breakfast not a clean table to be had even though majority had nobody sat at them, asked if someone could clean one for us & my husband was given a cloth & a bottle of cleaning spray and told “on you go pal” by this time I was gobsmacked the service was appalling all the areas around the food stations were disgusting plates cups etc that were supposed to be clean still with food stuff stuck to them & staff that were supposed to be working stood round talking about the football! Would never return to this hotel again & has made me question whether to use the chain again.

Hi, I had to catch a train - which took about 20 minutes - to Motherwell - then it was about £9 in taxi from there to the hotel. For my extra night I stayed in the Travelodge in Hill Street in Glasgow - so I could walk to Kelvingrove, the shops and then the station the next day. This place is really only handy if you are driving.
