We went there on Saturday afternoon for lunch as the menu on the website looked good and the prices were reasonable. We didn't have to be seated & the waiting staff were very quick and efficient at taking a drinks order and our food order. So 10/10 for the front of house team. Our starter course arrived within minutes of ordering which at first I though wow that's quick. Then it became apparent why. The food was luke warm, most likely pre prepared and reheated. Haggis bon bons freshly made would be much warmer. Same with the chicken wings, freshly made ones would be hot to touch. Disappointing, but that's not the worst of it. Our starter plates were taken away and within 1 minute our main course arrived. Alarm bells rang. That never happens. The chicken in the ceasar salad clearly had come from pre pack. It was sliced exactly the same as the stuff you get in the supermarket, again not even warmed. The basis of a very basic ceasar dressing normally has hints of anchovy through it. This didn't. The not so crunchy croutons were literally just stale bread cubes.
The chicken burger on a toasted bun was just literally that. One toasted bun, no garnishes or even a scraping of butter / mayonnaise or anything. It was like eating sandpaper. Had it not been for the fact there was a side salad with a small pot of garlic mayo, that burger would have been impossible to eat it was so dry.
So not a good experience. Food was god awful but the service team were great. Wouldn't go back nor recommend to anyone

This hotel is going down hill, forgetting the little things. Maintenance does not appear to be taking place in any systematic way. The milk for coffee was only put in the room on Sunday and stayed until Wednesday. Good job I like black coffee! Some of the lights in the room did not work. Shower needed repair etc, etc,
The staff were very obliging although run off their feet.

A stop over and meeting point for two families which could not have been more welcoming.

A smile and banter with every interaction, this hotel exceeded in every way. Spotless and large rooms with great quality beds, welcoming reception and spacious bar and terrace. We did not eat dinner but had a hearty breakfast which accommodated all our needs beyond question.

The location is incredibly convenient for those travelling north or south and proves excellent value too. All ten of us were impressed and would head back in the blink of an eye. Faultless.

2 families of 4 showed up at 6pm only to be told 1 room is booked and not them both. Finally got into rooms after showing booking confirmation, roasting hot, 2 towels between 4 people, sofa bed wasn’t made. Come 9pm the cleaner came and “made” the sofa bed (blood stained) with a mattress and pillow case protector (no sheets as apparently the protector was the sheets!) we had dinner which was awful so sent the food back. Come morning we just wanted out but since the breakfast was paid for, we had to attend. Pre-made plated up infront of us (open plan kitchen) with flies flying around it. Checked out early and attended the theme park. It was actually cheaper to stay the night and attend the theme park than attend the theme park alone so that’s the only reason we stayed. Would recommend it in that aspect but if you are not attending the theme park avoid this hotel at all costs.

The staff at The Alona make it. On arrival later after work, my wife and I were greeted by a complimentary (good sized) glass of wine from the cheery Gary on reception. Gary was polite, helpful and professional.
Our dinner, as it was an Itison deal, was limited to a choice of 3 for each course which we were worried about but the quality of the food was amazing. Good quality ingredients and expertly cooked. Drink prices are OK. Bigger hotel prices compared to local pubs etc but not over the top.
The room was very clean, a bit warm but the windows/doors on top level can be opened for air. Had a peaceful nights sleep despite being close to the theme park and shows.
Breakfast is a buffet, help yourself, but again very good quality.
Excellent location to motorway links for those visiting relatives locally.
Highly recommend.

We stayed for one night using an itison voucher. The deal itself was great value which was a good start.
We arrived at the hotel and were offered our complimentary drinks at check-in, which was very welcome after a long drive. Gary on reception was incredibly helpful, friendly and had a great sense of humour.
Our room was lovely and big and very comfortable.
We had dinner in the restaurant which was part of our offer. All of our 3 courses each were fantastic. Portion sizes were generous and everything was perfectly cooked and very tasty!
Our waitress, Esther, was lovely and we had such a laugh with her. The restaurant manager, Helen (Helga!) was just as friendly and carried on the banter. We couldn't believe how welcoming everyone was. Usually in hotels there are a mix of personalities, but in this place everyone was fantastic and obviously enjoy their work.
We had a lovely stay here and would absolutely recommend it.
My only advice would be to take earplugs just incase. It's in a lovely setting within the park but it is a popular venue for events so it can be noisy with music and people coming and going. Nothing remembering your earplugs won't fix!

I booked this hotel as a stop off on a very long drive to the Highlands so location & value were key. But, we were bowled over. The room was big, clean, modern & comfortable but even better was the warm welcome from all of the staff. We ate on site - £15.95 for a 3 course dinner is incredible !!!! Lovely food made well. Breakfast the next day was a cooked buffet style which is not my favourite but given the price we paid was a good start to the day. When we asked for extra tea & sugar for the room they also brought extra chocolate biscuits …. yay! Being able to stroll round the loch was great after breakfast and before jumping in the car for another long day.

We were planning a mini tour of Southern Scotland and I was booking 5 separate hotels and this one came out the cheapest by far. I spent quite a while checking reviews and photos for this reasonably priced hotel and everything checked out. On arrival there was plenty of parking and the receptionist was very helpful and friendly. The hotel situation is very good being in the Strathclyde Country Park with some nice walks by the Loch. The breakfast and the evening meal we had were very good. The restaurant staff were very friendly and we felt covid safe.

One night stay en route to Scottish Highlands. First impression - poor. Litter strewn around carpark and lots of crushed cigarette stubs around the main entrance. Receptionist polite and efficient. Told us a wedding party was booked into the ballroom but she had allocated us a room away from possible noise. Room warm and cosy with comfortable bed although the overall feel of the place was clean but shabby. At 6pm went to restaurant for dinner. Single waitress couldn't manage number of diners. Dinner was slow, 2 hours. The restaurant was being used as a thoroughfare by the wedding guests to get to the bar. Food was OK but nothing outstanding and very expensive. Wedding disco started at 8pm. The ballroom is a canvas marquee attached to the hotel and quite close to guest bedrooms. The noise levels in our room were bad and were massively intrusive preventing sleep. Expected this racket to stop at 11pm, after all even Glastonbury has to stop at 11pm in consideration of neighbours. It took almost an hour to contact any member of hotel staff only to be told the bar licence was extended to half past midnight. Staff member was not helpful and almost dismissive of my concerns. Disco did eventually shut down at 12:30am. Breakfast next day was not good. Heated products were mostly dried up, eggs looked awful, sausage like biscuits - the only things that was any good were the hash browns. Will not return under any circumstances, wedding or no wedding.

After recently staying here with my dog, we get a phone call the next day saying the dog had left stains on the carpet. I had asked if they had evidence of this given that the dog was always out and is fully house trained, nope they couldn’t provide this, I kept phoning for them to just hang up on me, they couldn’t tell me what stains where on the carpet. The customer service is absolutely ridiculous, no “manager” should be hanging up on a customer when they are asking how they are getting this charge without any proof. £155 for a festive wonderland stay, waste of money, no rides were open (obviously with Covid restrictions) we got some ice skating, hot chocolate, afternoon tea and free ride on a train that went round the grounds, it’s certainly was not a magical stay and not worth the money. Clutching at straws trying to charge for something that hasn’t happened and rude staff that need some customer service training. Will never be back and to be honest I can’t see it being open this time next year. Horrible stay, no deserving of one star with they way they speak to people.

My wedding was one of the warmest days of the year last year, they do have a sort of air con that comes from the vents in the floor, it is still pretty warm as it's like a green house.
