I arrived on a late ferry in stromness with no reservations. Through thick cold rain the Standing Stones appeared as oasis of bright lights I pulled in and no one was around. Finally found someone in the bar- very helpful but a bit flustered- I don't know for sure but I don't really think they were open. However I was...

Visited here with clients. Comfortable rooms. All staff very friendly and helpful. Ate in the restaurant in the evenings. Food was excellent but a little slow in arriving. Will definitely use here again.

Went out with family for a meal was excellent, I had the pork belly with the Savoy cabbage and was so under rated on the menu as it was an amazing meal. Family had the haddock and enjoyed it. Not too overpriced and friendly atmosphere, clean and tidy. Friendly helpful staff, would definitely recommend and would have no problem going...

We stopped at the Standing Stones Hotel for dinner on 17 March 2017. Two adults and a child. This wasn't our first choice but our preference was booked out. The main restaurant wasn't open and we ate in the bar. A square. clean but characterless room with tables and two pool tables. Food was mediocre. My steak and ale pie...

This is our 'local' restaurant. Choice of eating in the restaurant or bar, food is excellent in either. The bar can be noisy but we have never found it a problem. Food is always local, well cooked and presented and the staff are usually attentive. Service was a bit slow tonight but that is uncommon. I chose the duck spring...

I am afraid on this occasion I would not recommend this venue for high tea. Upon arrival we were seated and given menu's. My sister asked what was in the mixed grill but unfortunately it was just an all day breakfast with chips. Myself & my mum wanted the roast chicken but it only came with chips and when it...

The public bar is populated by locals who go out off their way to alienate visitors,I was abused and insulted whilst having a quiet drink, when i went outside for a smoke , the member of staff locked me out knowing my drink and phone was still at the bar. Another local was calling me names of an abusive nature...

We are undertaking a reconnaissance trip as part of the planning of a charity vehicle adventure in support of veterans with PTSD. The Standing Stones is a great hotel in a wonderful location, very central for various activities on the islands. The rooms are well appointed and spotlessly clean. The food (and beer) is superb. But what makes this hotel...

If you're overnighting in Orkney with a little one and a dog this is just the ticket. Well situated between Stromness and Kirkwall this hotel is clean, comfortable and full of very kind and friendly staff ready to help you with your Orcadian adventure. Bar food is perfectly acceptable even if the deco is a bit spartan. I can absolutely...
