This was an interesting place to stay. Great central location. Very quant street. We were greeted by the hostess who was very friendly. We were on the top floor. It could be a bit difficult with big luggage. We ended up leaving most of ours in the car. We were on the top floor with a bunk bed and two... More

This is a charming, if slightly dated, hotel in a very convenient central location in Stromness. The rooms are a little small but perfectly adequate and we had everything that we needed. There is a very handy TV situated in the breakfast room if guests want to sit together to watch. The breakfast is lovely and most things can be... More

A bit grim and dark at first sight, but clean, the plumbing works, very convenient location, wifi works and is free and the breakfast is great. As others have said, you could not call this a hotel. I don't think there was anyone else present in the building overnight when my brother and I stayed here. The two rooms I... More

I had stayed at the Orca before, and found it to be comfortable and simple accommodation. This time, knowing that this place existed and would be good, we booked in advance and found the warmest of welcomes, as well as an amazing breakfast the following morning. The fried egg that came with it was as fresh as could be, from... More

We stayed 3 nights in room 5 on the 3rd floor. The room was small with a comfortable double bed. We had 2 carry on type bags, so getting them up the stairs to the 3rd floor was not too difficult. The room was a little noisy - you can hear bathroom activities from the adjacent room. But overall, the... More

Let's make one thing clear, despite the title this is not a hotel. Guest house?, b And b? It does have a central location an easy walk from the ferry but given the size of Stromness there are no non central locations. I concur with the other comments that the hostess is very friendly and the breakfast is good. It... More

Our schedule changed so that we ended up travelling to the Orkney Islands two days earlier than we planned. We called the Stromness Hotel and they had no rooms available so we contacted the Orca Guesthouse and booked the family room. When we arrived, the first impression was not super, but we were satisfied to have a place to bunk... More

Doris was an excellent host - very welcoming, relaxed and helpful, and she worked very hard to give everyone a top-notch, delicious breakfast each morning. The hotel is right in the heart of Stromness which great if you're visiting for the Folk Festival but also handy all year round. I would stay here again in an instant.

The Orca is a nice, clean three-star guesthouse centrally located in Stromness. We didn't need pampering while we were there, and the Orca suited us just fine. Breakfast was excellent. The owner provided just what we needed after a day of cycling and an evening of indulgence: strong coffee and a plate of tasty proteins. We enjoyed our stay very... More

From slightly sceptical to complete satisfaction. Interesting, pleasant and knowledgeable hostess who accommodated us unexpectedly (too wet for camping) without any fuss. Fine little room with all the basic comforts (lots of teabags and biscuits etc). Undisturbed good night's sleep and a first class full Scottish breakfast in the morning which set us up for a very windy and chilly... More
