Having been walking in Fairbourne and around the mawwdach trail, our family of 2 adults and 2 children were really ready for lunch! Had we not have been so hungry I think we would have left our meals. The lasagne had no pasta sheets and was instead a mince stew with a cheese topping, served with very wet salad (I...

On Wednesday night I called into have an evening meal with friends and we met by pleasant and amiable staff and were able to sit overlooking the estuary, although we hadn't prebooked. The food was delicious and also a very varied menu. Surely enough to please many palates. Not having realised that cystitis was developing during the afternoon, I was...

This hotel is situated next to the Toll Bridge that takes you over to Barmouth and beyond. It shuts at 5.30pm so be aware of that because we weren't and ended up staying over at the Hotel next to it as it was getting late. George III Hotel is steeped in history and we stayed in Chalet 7 which was...

The most beautiful location, right on the estuary. Featured with Michael Portillo and Julia Bradbury's TV programmes. The rooms are OK, the staff friendly and helpful but it is the location that makes this the perfect romantic hideaway. You can stay in either the old 17C inn or in the converted station building. The station has the best views I...

From the second you walk in this place you are left in no doubt that something is going seriously wrong- it starts with the staff - the most unwelcoming place I've been since visiting Iran in 2001 - that's a separate story - in all fairness the service in Iran was excellent.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay. We hadn't been to Wales for 10 years. Having used the toll bridge many times we decided it would be nice to stay at the George. How wrong could we be. We researched initially for a dog friendly place. Having emailed numerous times to confirm how dog friendly they were, it...

This is an old building well maintained. Room cozy and estuary view (#4). Bathroom would need a fresher look but bathtub with shower was working ok. Breakfast is also ok (we only tried the continental not the cooked one). As advertised, wifi only works in the living room area not in the rooms. Food is super. I like the cozy...

My wife and I called at the George III hotel in Penmaenpool during a family visit to Wales earlier this year and made up our mind that we would have to stay there. As a boy I remembered seeing the railway from Barmouth Junction to Dolgellau, which used to run right past the front of the hotel, in use. Now...
