Hotel Portmeirion captivates many guests with its distinctive rooms, often applauded for their quirky decor and estuary views, although some visitors suggest improvements in upkeep and cleanliness. The service is consistently lauded for its warmth and efficiency, enhancing the overall experience. Nestled in a serene location, the hotel offers stunning vistas and proximity to local attractions. While opinions on value are divided due to cost concerns, the atmosphere and comprehensive amenities, including village access and a pool, are frequently praised. However, guests have called out noise issues as a detractor from an otherwise tranquil stay.

First class facilities in the motorhome park - very modern spotless shower rooms, washing up room and Elsan chemical disposal room. Free access to the village and the swimming pool from 2pm make the price of the pitches good value. However, you need to make sure the weather forecast is reliable before booking..Bad weather means you see little of the village and surroundings and this makes the motorhome pitch relatively expensive.

518kayd, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at our motorhome park. We're delighted to hear that you appreciated our first-class facilities, including the modern, spotless shower rooms, washing up area, and Elsan chemical disposal room. The free access to the village and swimming pool from 2pm is indeed a great benefit for our guests, offering excellent value for money. We have stayed in two expensive hotels in the last month, the first, The Weston Manor Hotel near Oxford was poor, the Portmeirion Hotel was great and restored our faith high end hotels.
Firstly the location is completely bonkers, what drugs Sir Clough Williams-Ellis was on when he designed the village goodness knows but it is amazing and when the day trippers leave at 5pm the hotel guests have the place to themselves to explore. Cars are not allowed in the village but no matter, you check in at the Castle at the top of the hill, they show you where to park and a nice man in a golf cart picks you and your luggage up and takes you to your room. Many of the rooms are dotted about the village and you walk down to the hotel for breakfast and dinner.
Our suite had a nice sitting room, two bedrooms (although we only needed one) and a good bathroom – our only criticism was the WiFi was a bit flaky. No cars or passing pedestrians means a good nights sleep. We stayed three nights and ate in the hotel restaurant on two nights and up at the castle on the third. All the food was very good, small menus, not pretentious and all courses were excellent.
One thing to note, the hotel restaurant has two menus which they use on alternate days so, if like us, you are there three nights the eat in the hotel on two consecutive nights and at the castle on the first or last night for a change.
Something which I did not understand (and perhaps the management can clarify if they answer this review); we were on a dinner, bed and breakfast package but in practice they just knocked a set amount off the dinner bill each evening, I don’t think there was any advantage in the dinner part of the package, we might have well just paid the dinner bill separately.
All the staff were helpful, friendly and attentive which made it a very relaxing place, one of the best UK hotels we have stayed in.

I had an absolutely wonderful time staying at Castell Deudreath in Portmeirion, North Wales. The village itself is so colourful and quirky, and has lovely, picturesque views overlooking the estuary. The castle's Grand Room that I stayed in was so comfortable and spacious. It was spotlessly clean and the bed was incredibly comfy to sleep in. The decor is modern, light and airy, and I enjoyed relaxing in my room after a day of exploring the local castles and beaches. The location of the hotel is excellent, providing easy access by road and train to many beauty spots in the area. The food was sumptuous in the castle restaurant, though given that it is a fine dining venue - be prepared for higher prices and smaller portions. Last but not least, the service from the reception and restaurant staff was fantastic. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, and I felt so well looked after a solo traveller on my first time visiting North Wales!

We had always wanted to visit Portmeirion since seeing the TV show (not The Prisoner 😆). We booked the bubbles package which included breakfast at the hotel for the 2 days booked and dinner at either the hotel or Castell with a glass of bubbles. We opted for both venues.
We chose village accommodation and was allocated Cliff House which gave us spectacular views over the estuary. The room was clean, the bed comfortable and the amenities top class. Although we only chose a room, there was a small fridge, tea/coffee etc and wine glasses for the selection of wine that was left to be purchased. There were robes, slippers and even brollies left for convenience, all of which could be purchased at a more than reasonable cost.
The parking was next to the room.
Village entrance is included in your stay which gave an amazing opportunity to view the place while it was empty of tourists. What a treat to actually hear the silence, take in the beautifully kept gardens, buildings, shops that were so appropriate to our surroundings and staff that did everything possible to make our stay as perfect as it was. Porters are available to take you between buildings in small vehicles and as I am sight impaired, this was a real benefit for me when it was dark. A special mention to John who was so helpful and the perfect porter! All staff here appeared to be happy in their job and it enhanced our stay as a result. Hello to lovely Ilana in the shop too!
We ate at the hotel on the first evening. What an amazing experience that was. 1st class food, service and ambience. We both agree this was possibly the best food we have eaten. We had opted for a Castell dinner for the 2nd evening and although this was described in the brochure as a less formal setting, the standard of food and service was still exceptionally good. My husband wore smart jeans and trainers to both venues as there was no strict dress code and I feel this helped to make a relaxed evening.
Breakfast was of a high quality too.
All in all, this stay exceeded all expectations in every way and represents fantastic value for money when you take into account what you get in the dinner package. Well done Portmeirion and thank you! 👏🏼

We stayed at a delightful village room on site, from which we had one of the best views. Portmeirion is a unique place and if you want a breather from the rat race then there's no better place to stay. If you stay a night, you have a free pass for two days, with an outstanding breakfast at the hotel. I'm already planning another visit. The rooms are not cheap (with the basic double costing around £230) but the price is offset by the unique experience, location, breakfast and service.

It is many years since I last stayed at Portmeirion - last time I was there the founder was still to be seen strolling around in his plus fours and yellow stockings. So it was good to find that, notwithstanding the disastrous fire in the 1980s and subsequent rebuilding and modernization, the hotel and the village looked reassuringly familiar.
We had a lovely room with a fabulous view of the estuary. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom well-equipped, and the windows could be opened. We were grateful for the lift, which was probably not there last time I stayed. We enjoyed reading in the lounges and walking in the village.
One or two things marred the experience slightly. The breakfast service started with coffee, which was welcome, and toast, which was not, because it was cold and flabby by the time we wanted to eat it. The Arnold Bennett omelette with Welsh rarebit that I ordered one morning was not a success: served in a skillet too hot to touch, the omelette was covered in a thick coating of toasted cheese and was seriously overcooked by the time it arrived. Soft and fluffy it was not! And by the time we had finished breakfast, which often took quite a while, and had returned to our bedroom, the housekeeping staff were eager for us to leave again so that they could make up our room. We came for a relaxing holiday, and we felt there was something wrong with the organization if we had to be hustled out of our room.
But apart from the place itself, which is special, and the views, which are lovely, the hotel's chief asset is its staff, who were without exception helpful, pleasant and efficient. I would particularly mention the porters, whose job it is to ferry guests in the hotel buggies up to (and even down from) their cars. Friendly and cheerful, they are an absolute delight!

I have always wanted to stay at this hotel. I first saw the place some 50 years ago after it had it featured the 60s TV series,’ The Prisoner’. My partner is 73 years old and I am 68. We are both pensioners and not the sort of pensioner that has accumulated property wealth. Looking for a mid-winter treat I had (rashly it now seems) paid ‘up-front’ the sum of £500 for a two-night stay which was to have been for a suite room evening meal breakfast etc. for two nights at £250 per night under their 'January Blues' seasonal offer. It did indeed seem like a wonderful offer, and we were much looking forward to it. However, the week before our booking date, both of us contracted flu and suffered severe chest infections. This duly resulted to my spending 10 hours in Lancaster A&E through the night of January 6, with a suspected serious heart condition. Two days before we were due to arrive, on Sunday 5th January, I had tried to shift the dates of our booking to sometime later in the month of January. We were completely flexible on dates. However, this was met with a stubborn refusal to compromise as 'terms and conditions of the offer are clear and they do not allow for this’.
However, on the morning of our expected arrival date, I received a telephone message asking me to confirm our ETA or, in the vent of us not being able to travel, offering me the possibility of changing the date of the booking to some other date. Encouraged by this message, I called the hotel and asked for ‘Kylie …’ who had left the message. However, the respondent was not Kylie but someone far less accommodating. Having had my hopes raised, I was robustly informed me that a date change was not possible under the terms of their 'January Blues' offer. I explained to the person that we could not travel under any circumstance, and moreover, I had spent all night in A&E. There was no flexibility on offer here whatsoever. They suggested I try and claim a refund under my travel insurance policy, something I explained I do not have.
The outcome for the hotel was that was they had conveniently established that the suite room I had paid for in advance was now in fact available for reallocation. All our table bookings would therefore not be needed etc.

I post this here to alleviate my deep disappointment. I also post in order to advise all those folks who might be considering taking up these ‘out of season’ offers, to fully understand that these people really mean it when they talk about ‘terms and conditions’. These are enforced with zealous efficiency. I wonder though at what ultimate cost… in terms of goodwill.

Little confusing to get to tollgate followed signs turned out ok
On arrival to reception was given pack with all you need opted for big pitch at £75 a night stayed 2 nights so not cheap to add you do access into portmerion for the 2 day had option on departure to park up and go in again if you wanted too
You also can go in after hours which is nice but to be fair nothing really open part from hotels for drinks meals etc
You also get access to hotel pool which is lovely, great walks down the estuary woods etc
Portmerion is lovely but in all honesty once you have seen it you don’t need to go back in time Father Time but each to their own
Day 2 out of the grounds you can walk into Porthmadog about 1.8 miles nice walk through woods to start then down onto the cob with the steam trains going past lovely
There is a bus service from minffordd into Porthmadog every hour I believe but the walk is lovely.
Site wise it’s well laid out small but everything you need our van 7.4 metre we opted for larger pitch at £75 a night probably could have gone a smaller pitch
3 showers 2 toilets 3 sinks in the gents
Shower shot powerful great no silly push buttons, improvements would be a bench in each cubicle very difficult to dry off and get changed as you are unable to sit down
No plugs in sink so difficult to wet shave he to keep tap running
Dishwasher are great, chemical disposal point excellent motorhome service point excellent.
TV reception zero but TV point on power bollard which worked pretty well signal dipped in and out a little but better than nothing bring TV cable 10 meter or so
Water on bollard too
Pitch not level had to use ramps
Wifi great
Site quiet once the crowds have gone home around 5pm
Would stay again but need to get pricing down as it is expensive option to stay and not go into portmerion might work?

The motorhome site is well serviced and a 2 minute walk from the Village. The showers/toilets are clean and well kept. It may seem expensive for one night but when you take into account the entry into the Village and use of the outdoor swimming pool, towels provided, both of which are included in the price it’s good value.

Excellent stay with three friends. The Village is spectacularly photogenic and the site staff were unbelievably friendly, engaging and willing to help. The Toll House itself is fantastic. The online information about it is hopeless however so it is worth mentioning here that the property DOES have an additional loo (at the top of the stairs). The Pilot room has spectacular views but the flimsy curtains and three aspects mean you should not expect to sleep much after dawn. There is actually a decent TV, not the CRT TV shown in the photographs. If you plan to not leave site for an entire 4-day stay, be aware that there is only one shop, Pot Jam, that sells provisions and its offerings do not include bread, for example. It does sell milk, tea and butter but that's your lot. For a site catering for so many 'residents', this could be improved. The Town Hall closes for decent priced evening meals at 5pm (last orders 4pm) otherwise the Hotel is the only option, but pricing there is far higher. There is also just one allocated parking space for the Toll House, again not sufficient for a 6-guest property. None of this should detract, however, for the magnificence of the place and our stay was not spoilt by the one or two shortcomings just mentioned. I doubt anyone staying at Portmeirion could leave disappointed.

I believe if you're staying in the self catering apartments, Hotel Portmeirrion or Castle Deudrath you can dine in either restaurant and if the weather is inclement there is a complimentary buggy service to take you their so that you arrive looking presentable. Great any weather if you're wearing high heals. I'm not sure about the pool but as that is only open for a small part of the year and is outdoors it may be busy, best to ask at reception when there or ring 01766 770000

The castle is not in the village but I would highly recommend they go to the hotel in the village for dinner at least one night as the village is really pretty at night but only open to residents/guests. There is a courtesy mini moke to take them there and can be booked in advance.
