This pub claims to be the oldest in Wales. It certainly has the character to back up that claim. The staff is friendly and will point out certain historical aspects of the pub like where the old gallows were, if they are not too busy. Definitely worth a stop to imbibe the atmosphere as well as the excellent ales. We... More

We love dropping in here although I wish they'd rethink their dog policy. Plenty of places let dogs into their restaurants now. You're being rather prehistoric! On a wet Saturday this proved the usual good pitstop. Place was packed but the food was edible & punctual. Constantly had to check the car for the dogs though!

Fantastic food, a lot of history and friendly staff - I would recommend to anyone thinking about going whilst in Wales! Food is also served quickly. I'd recommend booking though, as there isn't much room and they were only just able to fit us in!

An old and interesting pub with history. The oldest pub in Wales which has preserved its character. Good simple food at very reasonable prices. Friendly and efficient service. Unpretentious pub, well worth a visit.

Fantastic atmosphere and history. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Food was great value with a wide range to choose from. You really must try this place you will not be disappointed. Local historic abbey worth a visit just 5 miles away with a lovely country road.

Beef & Yorkshire pudding sunday lunch was absolutely beautiful - as was apple pie and custard afterwards. The staff were very friendly and helpful and had a good sense of humour especially as we were sat at someone else's table and had to be moved after we had removed the wine glasses to make room for our vegetables and changed... Stayed in room 2, food was nice. Enjoyed the breakfast. Wonderful place to visit, full of character and history. We managed to catch some orbs on camera in the bedroom. Would recommend the Skirrid inn. Will be back again to visit soon. Enjoyed the stay.

This review is based on an evening spent ghost hunting with Haunted Happening's. On arrival, there was plenty of parking but we parked on the road due to the car park being full. The drink prices were reasonable but the food that was part of an event we booked wasn't very good. The fish & chips were both very oily... More

Went for evening meal. Food seemed to have good reviews so tried this. Good choice, staff happy to help at all times. Good value and generous portions Chicken with apple, mushroom and bacon sauce was new to me and was excellent. My OH had sirloin with trimmings which was excellent. Downside is part of bar is very dark so although... More

An inn steeped in history. The staff and the beer were very good, however the front of the pub was covered in cigarette ends and would have benefited from a broom. It is also looking very run down from the front elevation. Lunchtime sandwiches were average but for the price you can't complain.
