Nice hotel with large spacious rooms. Some areas need a bit of tlc, for example in the bathroom the skirting board was coming away from the wall. The room I was in was front facing and the road is quite busy so with the single glazed old windows it was noisy, not good if you want a lie in! Breakfast... More

Looking forward to a nice lunch with friends, and whilst the service was very good and cheerfully efficient, and the atmosphere warm and pleasant, the food itself was disappointing and not worth what we paid. Watery, poor tasting soup (and very little of it) served with small slices of bread, and toasties with scant filling and a laughable scrap of... More

Many thanks for your review. I'm a little shocked by your comments, as we have never had any complaints about our homemade soup or toasties. In fact, we've had such great feedback from the food that we have expanded our menu as a result! Morag, our chef, does not add any water to the soup which surprises me that it... More

We had a lovely one night stay in Browns. The room was super clean and very welcoming. I particularly enjoyed the massive roll top bath. The only thing I would say is we ordered stuffed mushrooms for breakfast with grilled tomatoes and it was tiny! One mushroom and half a tomato. They also recommended th pub next door for food... A lovely pub with rooms in the centre of Laugharne. Our room was large, clean and quiet. The breakfasts were excellent with a good and varied menu and everything well cooked. There was a great selection of wines and good real ale in the bar, which has lots of interesting Dylan Thomas memorabilia. The only negative was the background music... More

Excellent 3 evening stay at a hotel with character. Food was lovely, staff very friendly and a room very well done. Very pleasant location to base yourself from for visiting South West Wales. Would defiantly recommend.

This is a fine property that manages to combine history, atmosphere, ambience and the contemporary needs of modern travellers. The rooms are variable, but other than the beds being a touch soft, offered reasonable facilities; this is tempered only by the ability to work with the architecture of the 18th century, not easy, but here it has been done with... We're staying in the Talacharn suite on the top floor. Its very clean. It's a beautiful room and we got an excellent deal through travelzoo for £50 a night. Despite the fact we got such a good deal, there was still a bottle of wine waiting in our room for us, they didn't cut any corners because we had a... More

I stayed here for 2 nights for work but was able to take my dog. This place was really lovely. Old and nicely decorated. Sometimes dog-friendly places give you a less pleasant room but not at Browns. They treated my dog like a celebrity so that won me over. My room was lovely with a role top bath. My only... More

Unfortunately we only had time to stop off for a quick drink in the middle of the day during a Dylan Thomas 'pilgrimage'. Wonderful atmosphere with some great photos and artefacts. Great range of local ales, great to see them selling Wales' wonderful Penderyn whisky too. There was a young bar man serving who was brilliant, helpful and knowledgeable regarding... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Brown's will forever be associated with Dylan Thomas. It was his favourite 'watering hole' and he gathered most of the material for his iconic play, Under Milk Wood, from the stories he heard in the bar. In 2012 the hotel underwent a complete refurbishment and offers 13 luxurious rooms with organic Welsh mattresses, en-suite bathrooms and LCD HD TVs. As well as the fully restored bar there is a reading room, conference room and a free car-park to the rear. The bar stocks drinks from the Penderyn Distillery range as well as Welsh real ale and there are tasty bar meals on offer. We have live music on Sunday afternoons and regular evening events. The Grade 2 listed 'bar with rooms', which was built in 1752, stands on Laugharne's King St, a short distance from the castle, estuary, gifts shops and cafes, the quirky Tin Shed military museum and the Dylan Thomas Boathouse - the poet's, 'sea-shaken house on a breakneck of rocks', where he lived for the last four years of his tragically short life. It is now a museum and tea room and is open all year round. Laugharne is not just for literary types - it sits on the Wales Coastal Path and there are several walks in the area from where you can view the herons and egrets down on the timeless estuary. We'll leave the last word on Laugharne to Dylan: '... a mild beguiling island of a town... there is nowhere like it anywhere at all.' ... more   less
