A pleasurable stay in a well-furnished and conveniently situated hotel in the centre of Avoriaz. Ski-in, ski-out is a big positive. The restaurants are good with menus for all budgets. The rooms are comfortable though space is a little tight. The staff are friendly, efficient and capable. We would happily stay here again.
Booked 5 nights April, breakfast and dinners included. SOWELL email 2 weeks before they have closed kitchen, no dinners, will refund, £45 per person per night. The refund has still not come through. We were only allowed to book/use the spa/gym/hot-tub for 1 hour per day but they still sell to the public so most days we could not get any booking. Breakfast wwas good, staff really tred but they have no support from SOWELL and they were underresourced the whole week. Bar drinks could take 20mins, reception often empty, room was not cleaned on some days. This building is amazing, the locaiton is great but SOWELL have stolen the life from it and are now committing fraud but taking bookings and not being able to deliver. When am I getting my refund back? I have been emailed and asking for 3 weeks!…
The hotel was generally good with clean comfortable rooms, friendly reception staff and interesting architecture! I think there is room for improvement in a few areas. 1- The very expensive hotel bar does not sell beer of any kind; only spirits/cocktails and wine. It would be nice to have been able to have a refreshing beer at the end of a days skiing. We instead went to a local bar that sold beer. 2-The warm food offerings at breakfast was quite poor. The scrambled eggs were very sloppy with a crust on top, the Rosti/hash brown were soggy and the bacon was not warm. The cold breakfast offering was however, good. There was no staff present at breakfast to check you in, it felt like you could walk straight off the street and go to breakfast without anyone checking you were a hotel resident. They appeared short of staff. 3-The spa staff were quite rude. They were not present to great you as you enter the spa or check your reservation in the spa. Others guests came into the spa that told us they had not booked. We were then asked to leave as the spa was fully booked, despite no one else being there. A little frustrating really as we were not made to feel welcome despite having booked.…
A very nice hotel indeed but for a four star hotel serving reheated food and lacking staff was a very bad experience. Service in general was non existing. The hotel was understaffed and extremely inexperienced.
We have just returned from staying at this hotel for a second time, the first being in 2019. We remembered it as a unique and beautiful space with good facilities and helpful staff. We were not disappointed on our second visit; the rooms are good, the spa is excellent, the staff are hardworking and helpful and it is an amazing space with a great bar area. The only complaint was the rudeness of some of the other guests, particularly to the staff. We did not eat dinner in the hotel but breakfasts were good with a wide variety and there are plenty of good local places to eat nearby. It is ski-in, ski-out and in an amazing setting. We had great weather and good skiing. We will definitely return.
We turned up on the Saturday evening with two small children to be told that there would be no half board as the kitchen staff had all walked out and left. The hotel had done absolutely nothing to sort out anywhere else to eat, it was up to us to sort it and pay for it. Staff were generally unhelpful and said they would refund €27 per person per day. You try finding a 3 course meal for that in Avoriaz! Whole place looks tired and pretty much like it’s had it’s day. The staff were broken and bar was empty. People were bringing their own wine back to the hotel and drinking in the bar! We’ve always stayed in L’Amara, and will be returning back there next time. Our room was very noisy being opposite the night club. This hotel was very expensive and a complete shambles. A definite never to return hotel. An expensive lesson learned.…
I have always wanted to stay at the iconic Dromonts since my first visit to Avoriaz in the 1980s. I wasn’t disappointed. The hotel is quirky with lots of character. Plenty of cosy nooks and crannies to hide away in, 1960s decor and furniture, large bedrooms (one with a bath in the room), beautiful views of the mountains, great location (right opposite Avoriaz Ski Shop for equipment hire), an amazing spa (outside hot tub, gym, sauna etc) and staff eager to please. We were half board and had the choice of the two restaurants each night. The “gastronomique” upstairs and the downstairs “festival” with more hearty fare. A lot of meat and cheese, but you are in the Savoyarde. Some salads/lighter choices wouldnt go amiss. Breakfast is excellent. More serving staff, more choice at dinner and more consistent boot warmers would earn it a fifth star. That said, I thoroughly recommend it.…
Sadly not at all what we expected. Positives: Nice staff at the bar and restaurant, good and cosy areas for socialising. Negatives: Poor quality of breakfast, same small choice was served all week, evening menu was the same all week and one night only heavy cheese choices were left in the Festival restaurant (moules frites, burger and fish & chips were not available), as we had half board we had to chose the same dish several evenings, making up the room was limited to making the bed and toilet paper, as we had dogs with us the floors should really have been vacuumed a couple of times, but instead there was a layer of hair all over the floor by middle of the week. I cannot recommend this hotel to people staying for more than a weekend.
A ski hotel lives and dies on its food and unfortunately this one dies. Tiny portions. Don’t go to dinner hungry or you will be disappointed. Worst risotto I have ever tried. Restaurant must be run on tight budget. I complained but made no difference. Spa shower had smell of vomit. Room was fine. I won’t be returning
Faded glory, sad that this is going down! Bad management, bad communication, bad kitchen, bad maintenance, bad service!! Not worth 4 stars!!! Staff are left to their own devices. Bad management. windows are fat and dirty! no variaty in the restaurant.... mussels and french fries in a mountain restaurant , strange....
