Had to laugh at the big sign in the parking lot that proclaimed this location the No. 2 Hampton Inn & Suites in America! Raising the inevitable question: Who is No. 1? You know. I don't care. This was very good. Situated on the western side of Chincoteague Island, right up against a "narrows" and overlooking Marsh Island with its grasses and birds. Ample parking in front. Helpful front desk. Nice breakfast with seating overlooking the water. Spacious rooms. It really checks all the boxes. Good location, too: near Island Creamery (see my review, "Ice cream worth waiting for") and other eating/drinking spots; a short drive to picturesque Assateague Island with its Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge (see my review, "NOT on Chincoteague Island"), its Assateague Lighthouse ( "Lighthouse or barber pole?) and its Assateague Beach ("Beach discovery"). TIPS: * Ask for a balcony room overlooking the water. Great spot to watch boat traffic, view birds on Marsh Island, monitor cars on the causeway, enjoy sunsets and hear music drifting down the shoreline from ChincoTiki Caribbean Bar and Grill. Try for a higher floor so you don't hear people talking in the seating areas below.…
Granted, I'm a longtime Hilton Honors status member which may have had something to do with this, but I was very impressed that management went to great lengths to resolve an issue our family had with different room types on multiple reservations so we wouldn't have to haul a ton of food, bags and surf gear to a different room for the last night of our stay. This might have resulted in our losing out on a beach day (during peak periods you have to be in line at Assateague early in the morning to get a parking place.) I won't enter details because I don't want to set unrealistic expectations for others, but you just don't see this at every Hilton property especially when they're sold out to the rafters. I've stayed here many times for several good reasons: It's clean, the beds are super comfortable, the ventilation is good, the staff are friendly and responsive, and oh yeah - we get Hilton points and treated as valued members of the customer base. There's plenty of close by parking and it's walking distance to restaurants and other attractions. The beach is a little bit of a drive, but other than occasional parking issues it's not a big deal. Do be aware they have different room types based on water view or lack thereof, which may seem a little subtle especially because the room photos accompanying them are very similar and/or the same. This should only be an issue if you have multiple reservations and don't want to change rooms (some people do this b/c vacation dates change and you may have to pay a higher room rate if you edit your original reservation) or if you really, really want a particular view of the back bay which is lovely. I'll be back as soon as I can get there. This is one of Hilton's top rated properties for a reason. <3…
It’s no wonder this Hilton property wins awards every year and receives so many accolades. From the moment you arrive, you immediately notice how well maintained the exterior of the building and grounds are. The lobby is well appointed and front desk staff are welcoming. The guest rooms are thoroughly cleaned, up to date and provide all the amenities you would expect in a higher caliber hotel. The property overlooks the bay and provides the opportunity for enjoying God’s creation! What a wonderful property. I highly recommend.
It’s easy to see why this is the second highest rated Hampton in the United States. It was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly. The breakfast was good but the cookies at night a check in were delicious. We booked the king suite with a Jacuzzi tub. We had a water view with a small porch. The room number was 311. When we come back to Chincoteague we will definitely stay here again.
My friends and I really enjoyed our stay! The staff was so friendly and helpful! They had great recommendations on local spots and made us feel so welcome. The view from our rooms balcony was amazing! We also enjoyed our morning coffee on the chairs on the hotel's main deck down by the water. I slept on the sleeper sofa, which was surprisingly comfy! The location was great for walking to local restaurants. Definitely recommend!
