We stayed at Welbourne twice this year: once in June and once in September: my husband and I, my son in law, daughter and a 7month then 10 month old granddaughter. Both times we were comfortable, entertained and enriched :-) Nat & Sherry are wonderful personalities. The charm of the house is the cherished past history in furnishings and ancestors....

A wonderful place to go and unwind. It is full of history and stories and modern day innkeepers and staff who make you feel that Welbourne belongs to all who visit. The breakfast is delicious and keeps on coming, the women who staff the kitchen are lovely. You won't want to miss the cocktail hour on the veranda, as this...

I feel nourished and renewed after a wonderful weekend at Welbourne. The completely authentic and sincere innkeepers and staff made a wonderful home into a wonderful experience. The homes faded elegance is endearing and comfortable, its easy to feel as if you "belong"here. I'd read many reviews before I decided on Welbourne for a planned girls weekend/reunion and you always...

We are Virginians and know the area very well, but only found Welbourne about a year ago. Since then, we have stayed seven times. It is a complete break from the tensions of Washington, a trip back in time to a slower pace, a beautiful house without TV, without radio, without Internet, but with the pleasures of good company. Life...

I have visited Middleburg and Welbourne before, but had never spent a night in the beautiful house. My boyfriend and I decided to attend the Middleburg Christmas Parade and Hunt Review the first weekend in December and spent two lovely nights at Welbourne. Driving down the gravel road and turning into the main entrance, you feel as if you are...

We’ve been traveling to the Middleburg area for 20+ years and finally found this B&B gem with gracious Southern hospitality and genuine historical charm. All the rooms are large and feel more like luxury suites. Nothing is “updated” – it is the original eight generation family home. The early morning silence is only broken by one of the hounds “singing.”...

A visit to Welbourne will provide a very memorable experience. Welbourne's history and welcoming hosts(Nat & Sherry) cannot be matched by other inns. You will have the opportunity to step back to an earlier time and catch a glimpse of Welbourne's rich history. JEB Stuart and John Mosby knew Welbourne. Enjoying cocktails with Nat, along with his family and friends...

I've been to Welbourne perhaps 8 or 9 times now with my dogs. The inn has been in the same family for 240 years! You can't find that kind of commitment and dedication to a bed and breakfast anywhere else. The stewardship of this property has been a family concern since before the USA existed. And the inn reflects that...

Our visit to Welbourne was one of the most special trips that we have ever made, and the lasting beauty and hospitality we experienced here will forever stay with us. From the second you turn down the long driveway and the beautiful grand facade of Welbourne presents itself to you for the first time, you realize that not only are...

This old mansion is something out of a different era. Everything is original and historic. We enjoyed cocktail hour and breakfast very much. The bedrooms are enormous and the furnishings are original. We would suggest that you be a dog lover, as there are quite a few pooches roaming the grounds. While such an old home has undeniable charm, the...

“Go in the middle of the week. Few private baths.”

“We saw 4 of the rooms, ours was off the landing at the top of the front stairs, looking into the trees and down on the Garden path. we liked it, Downstairs, one has an outside door to the drive, which wouldn't have felt so cozy to us. You don't need a room key in a home.”

“I travel with two dogs, so I prefer "my room", aka the Fitzgerald Room. It is a wing of its own on the first floor and has two doors that open to the property, making it easy for you to just "release the hounds" in the morning. It's also the largest suite in the house and the bathroom has a large clawfoot tub and windows on three sides. There are no stairs to climb, just a step up on the porch, then a step up into the room. In another hallmark of Welbourne authenticity, the Fitzgerald Room is not called that because the owner is a big F. Scott Fitzgerald fan. It's called that because the author himself stayed in the room and mentioned Welbourne in one of his books.”
schmedrake, 20 May 2012 | Read review
“The end room off of the library was awesome! Be aware that not all rooms have a full bath and are perfectly described as having "faded elegance."”
