I always thought that fichi d'India were only growing in the wild. But no, here at il Gigliotto, they make fruit orchyards out of them. Giusi, the girl at the reception of Agriturismo Gigliotto, tells us anecdotes about how Sicilians learned to make the fruit more juicy and with less seeds (has to do with the mafia). We stayed one... We cant visit Sicily wihtout visiting Gigliotto. Gigliotto is the most romantic and beautifull place to visit if you want to discover the real Sicily, the nature and the real sicilian food. D'ont go there just for a room, but feal how it is to stay at the place and smell Sicilia, enjoy their dinner and drink their own wine.

The location of the property and views are quite spectacular. Great to sit on an enormous terrace with a cold beer or glass of wine. One evening we could see Mt Etna about 60km away whilst erupting The breakfasts were okay but with only Cinzia working some delays were encountered. The evening meals were better organised but Sicilian eating time... More

Stayed 2 nights thinking we would be relaxing in a great place with good food and good wine. Wrong! The place is not quiet as the dogs kept barking for most of the first night. Not sure what happened in the second night but they started barking only at 645am. The food was below average, the service was below average... More

I do not understand the negative reviews giglioto got. We find it very charming, clean, big, very nice rooms, attantive staff, and good restaurant. The only lack we have found was in the shower, it might be wise to replace the shower head, when it's clogged...

So we didn't spend the night here, only had lunch, but let me just say that the grounds are absolutely beautiful. In comparison to many Agriturismos that I have been to in my 3 years of living in Sicily, this place has one of the best views. This particular day I was able to see Mt. Etna in the background.... Wonderful food and wine, Beautiful simple rooms, pool, great wedding spot too. All food grown and prepared on property. They even smoke their own meats. More beautiful and remote than Tuscany!! Many interesting Greek and Roman ruins nearby!!

We had booked 3 nights at the Agriturismo Gigliotto and then checked out the trip advisor info. We were worried by all the negative reviews, but fortunately decided not to cancel our reservation until we had a look for ourselves. We had a delightful time, with a welcoming staff (including the owner and his family, and all the staff, including... More

Also known as Agriturismo Gigliotto, this place has serious problems. It has declined from whatever glory days it once had. We felt we were in prison, with dirty rooms, a dirty pool, overflowing ash trays, weird food, dogs roaming the grounds, and pigeon droppings everywhere. We had to fight to be released, and they would not credit our deposit. It... More

Beautiful setting cannot compensate for appalling maintenance and arrogant money-grubbing owner/staff. So horrible we left after two nights--losing a lot of money because the Padrone refused to apply the deposit our travel agent had placed. But that's how miserable we were. Sicilian equivalent of the Twilight Zone! If you are reading this while you're actually at Gigliotto, first and foremost... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The HOTEL, a XIV former monastery, develops all around a Sicilian court-yard on which 26 comfortable rooms and a dining room appear, as a place of magic union between the typical fragrances and flavours of the perfumes of the Island cuisine made of biological products, served with Nero d' Avola wine. Our guests can enjoy a big swimming pool, a fixed riding place with expert guides, a small museum with peasant tradition, walks in the silence of the nature, in the green and in serenity. Placed in the heart of the Land of the Sun,on an idealposition for trips to Taormina , Agrigento, Syracuse, Noto and Ragusa Ibla, the farm-house boasts surroundings of largely famous tourist places such as Piazza Armerina with its Roman Villa, Caltagirone, beautiful for its historic town centre and known for the production of majolicas, Morgantina, an ancient Greek town with its agorà and its wonderful theatre. ... more   less
