Detailed Reviews
On arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome by reception. We were asked to take a seat with them whilst during check in andd offered a glass of cava, and a refreshment towel. After check in we were took to our room by reception who explained all the features of the room, mini bar smart light / air con control, etc. hotel with a really relaxed vibe.
We booked the grand suite which has a small kitchen with dining area a living room with sofa bed and large flat screen tv. You can access to a small balcony and the main balcony from the living room
. The master bedroom is just off the living area, it has a queen size bed, large flat screen tv and access to the main balcony which has a beautiful 4 poster double sun lounger as-well as seats and a small table.
The bathroom is large consists of a separate toilet / bidet, separate enclosed shower, corner whirlpool bath and double sink.
Pool area - sun loungers are of good quality not your cheap plastic type. Pool towels are available from the lifeguard at the pool, the pool is nice with a small cordoned area for small children non swimmers. There are 2 x 4 poster double sunloungers to hire at 35 euro for the day. The pool bar offers a large variety of drinks food and ice creams and is never too busy.
Breakfast - full variety fantastic anything you want plus a chef available to cook eggs pancakes bacon at your request
Overall I would say from our experience this is probably one of the best hotels we have stayed at in Europe from a relaxation and service point of view.
I highly recommend this hotel and please pay no attention to any negative comments you will enjoy your stay here for sure.

Lovely quiet hotel, nice staff, good place to escape the busy town during the day. First time went to pool at 9.00am and found plenty of sunbeds to sit at, recommended, would return again. Great location near to everything you need

We have just returned from this hotel staying in a premium room, very modern, huge bed, great bathroom and toiletries. Plenty of hanging space etc, the balcony was really big with a whirlpool but we didnt use it. We had a couple of technical issues with air con that was broken for the first 4 days and our shower was only scorching hot it was sorted as soon as they could it had literally opened the day we arrived so was teething problems, the manager did offer us a complimentary evening in the restaurant but we didnt take him up as we enjoyed a walk into the centre The other style of rooms are traditional spanish some had a kitchenette so depends on what your preference is. Every single member of staff were so helpful and polite and made us feel so special. The grounds are beautiful and below us was the breakfast room where the piano was sometime played at breakfast.
Its about a 15 min stroll into the centre but there are shops and restaurants within a couple of minutes walk. The cleaners were always around cleaning the place within an inch of its life. We would stay again without question and would like to thank all staff and management for making our stay so special. We are looking at bringing our extended family back next year.

We were very much looking forward to our stay in this hotel, however while quite charming with lovely grounds it felt very dated in many ways and did not come close to other 5 star hotels we have experienced.
Check-in and concierge were all managed by just one person positioned behind an old fashioned boxed in small reception area. We had to wait quite some time to be seen and there was no welcome drink offered.
Breakfast buffet (normally a highlight on holiday) was limiting and not that great a selection. Minimal fresh fruit options (no fresh pineapple which is usually a given), coffee was self service from a machine, smoked salmon missing one day so asked for this but then took 10 minutes by which time omelette was cold. No salad selection whatsoever to accompany the ham and cheese…again standard in European hotels.
The gym is very old fashioned and small. I’m afraid this was nowhere near what is normally provided in 5 star hotels.
The lounge bar seemed non existent in the evening. When arriving back to the hotel after dinner out there was no atmosphere or warmth when coming back into the hotel. It would have been nice to have had this area functioning.
The gate exit to the street from the pool area is not key coded meaning anyone could just access the hotel and enter the gardens. This did not feel very secure to have open access in this way.
To conclude on some positive aspects:
All the staff working at this hotel are fantastic. They are friendly, service orientated and hard working.
Housekeeping was first class
Pool area is enjoyable with good service and drinks
Concierge were very helpful with restaurant bookings and general requests
All the above feedback was channeled directly to the hotel after our stay and duly acknowledged.

This is not a 5* hotel
We travelled as a couple celebrating our pearl (30 years) wedding anniversary, which was not picked up on our arrival. After speaking to Paula - Guest Experience Manager she apologised and in fairness did make some amends by offering some food and drinks and a small gift which went some way to hide our disappointment. With regard the hotel itself we have been to several 5 star hotels in our many holidays together and this does not meet those expectations. If you are a couple/solo seeking peace and tranquility, this is not the hotel for you.
The reality is, this is a family friendly hotel… some kids running around the pool with inflatables and balls in the pool, shouting/screaming. In our opinion this would be much better off being an adult only hotel so that like minded people can enjoy some much needed peace and quiet and after all it's not as if there isn't enough family friendly hotels in the area.
A 5* boutique hotel should be about luxury, top class accommodation and service, peace and tranquility. There was none of that in this hotel.
The breakfast experience was average. Breakfast options were not particularly extensive or varied daily, but fine if you like eggs. The coffee served in the pots were not pleasant and the milk was quite frankly awful. The breakfast atmosphere was relaxed though with no feeling of having to rush to vacate the table for someone else.
Do have to say that the building being on two levels was aesthetically pleasing and that the gardens are well looked after. The location to the town centre and beach is not too close nor too far away and there is a wonderful choice of restaurants and bars in the centre.
For us it was not quite the indulgent escape we wished for The Melia Cala d’Or is miss sold as a relaxing, tranquil holiday for couples because it is not and would therefore not return back unless they changed this to an adult only hotel.

Our first experience of the hotel set an unfortunate tone as we arrived and went through the check in process at 1030pm, following a delayed flight, to find we’d been bumped to a lower grade hotel for the night as Melia had overbooked their rooms. Travelling with a very tired 4 year old, this was very disappointing and inconvenient, particularly as I’d already paid in full for the duration of the trip. This meant the following day was lost hanging around waiting until we could move back across to the Melia.
When we arrived at the Melia the following day, we were given a room upgrade and told the guest manager would come to speak to us…this didn’t happen during our week long stay!
The room was nice enough, if a bit tired and dated.
The pool was lovely but over half the loungers were typically ‘occupied’ with towels and bags but with significantly less guests in or around the pool meaning there wasn’t space to sit.
When the final evening came and I was trying to order room service, confirm breakfast, transfer and bill payments, I called and called reception, and every internal number available, and they constantly rang out. Unable to leave the room due to my young daughter sleeping, I had to resort to catching the attention of the pool cleaner to get the attention of someone from reception for me, who then said the phones were all broken…it would have been nice if a note had been left in rooms to alert guests.
Not a terrible stay but certainly my not a 5* experience!

Dear Jenny , We want first of all to thank you for reaching out to us to notify us of your concerns related to your recent holiday and apologise that the experience didn't live up to your expectations. Your feedback is very important to us and we will be making sure your remarks are brought to the attention of the appropriate management so they can make the necessary adjustments in the areas you highlight in your review. We want to thank you for your patience and we are delighted to know that the final assigned room was to your liking. Our rooms have been created with the comfort of our customers in mind. For that reason, we have designed spacious spaces, where families will feel at home. Please be assured that this is not our usual standard of service delivery within the hotel since our staff aim to deliver the best experience possible to all our guests. But of course, we will be revising our procedures with the entire team to guarantee an improved service from each and every staff member. We take all feedback being it positive or negative to heart as our main aim is to provide our clients with a pleasant and enjoyable stay. We had a pleasant stay but paying 2000 Euros for a week, we expected better rooms, not listening to a party hotel between 22 and 24 every evening and better beds. The cleaning however was very good and polite.
The first guy in the reception, (not the young guy at night he's seems to do whatever he can), but the one during the day didn't bother to help us with the first room that was really bad, but the girl in the reception fixed it in 5 minutes and she is just absolutely wonderful and her english level is amazing for a spanish.

+1
Lovely hotel with fantastic staff. The service was very good with everywhere kept clean, tidy and pristine. We chose the B&B option which was very good. There was a nice selection of food both Spanish and international with hot food cooked to order.
The food at the pool bar was lovely as were the drinks!
The pool area is lovely and the gardens are fabulous. You do have to chase the sun a little bit but then again, not everybody wants to be in the direct sunlight for the entire day.
The rooms are lovely, we had a suite which was nicely appointed even though it was clearly done some time ago. There are control units next to the bedside which control all the features of the room.
For those of you who are couples looking for a somewhat peaceful stay, I’d avoid July and August as the hotel does cater for children. We personally didn’t mind but you wouldn’t necessarily expect a lot of families in a 5* boutique hotel but there were.
There are plenty of very nice restaurants nearby and the Cala Gran cove is a 5 minute walk away from the hotel if you enjoy the beach.
We have stayed at the Gran Melia before in Illetas and I would say the service here was better than there!

This wasn’t our first visit to Melia Cala D’Or & it certainly won’t be the last. The hotel location is perfect for access to the beach, town & port but it is the customer service & attention to detail which make this hotel five star. From booking to leaving the customer care is second to none, they offer a very personal service & somebody checks daily you’re happy with everything, giving immediate attention to any minor problem (loose door handle was fixed within 5mins). The breakfast offers an amazing selection & is delicious, a special thank you to Isobel who has always offered efficient service with a smile. The hotel, rooms & grounds are immaculate & beds extremely comfortable, all staff go quietly & efficiently about their duties guaranteeing a stress free stay. Just returned & already looking to book for later in the year, thanks to you all for another amazing stay.

If you want a hotel that has a busy bar with children running around late into the evening and karaoke every night, don't book this place. This hotel is a great place to relax with great staff to look after you. Food in the restaurant is wonderful; the pool area is a tranquil place to relax in the sun and maybe cool off in the water. Visited on a few occasions including two weeks in 2019 and three weeks this year and I cannot fault the place.
