Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

The Costa Calero Hotel Thalasso & Spa garners appreciation for its clean, spacious rooms with impressive views, though noise levels can be a concern, and some guests have experienced issues with room allocation. While the hotel's cleanliness and well-kept facilities are often commended, occasional lapses in maintaining outdoor spaces have been noted. Despite the staff's politeness and diligence, service can be uneven due to staffing shortages. The tranquil location near the marina is seen as a positive, albeit somewhat remote from bustling areas.
The amenities, including diverse pools and dining options, are well-received; however, some guests suggest enhancements could be made. In terms of value, the hotel faces criticism regarding extra costs and the quality of food and facilities. Lastly, while the hotel's modern atmosphere is recognized, it doesn't escape the critique of lacking liveliness for some visitors.

Detailed Reviews
We had a lovely holiday here. It was our 4th time here the last time being in 2015 so there were some changes which were for the better. We booked Prestige which was excellent and wasn't available when we were last here. The Prestige lounge came in very handy when it rained as we had somewhere comfortable to sit rather than the pool bar area which is open to the elements. I think it would be better if the piano bar opened early in the winter which it did on one occasion when the weather was bad. It was busy. Being Prestige we had our own area of the dining room which we enjoyed as it was quieter. At breakfast you are served your freshly squeezed juice, coffee etc. You can also order cooked breakfast, omelette's etc to your table. In the evening you can choose any wine from the list (excluding French Champagne). After your meal you can order coffee and liquers from the waiter. Unfortunately the waiter was very busy when we stayed so we had to wait to catch his eye. The Prestige lounge was excellent with all top brand drinks ie Grey Goose vodka, G'Vine Floraison &Bombay Sapphire Gin, Cardhu whisky and Courvoisier Brandy as examples. There were also nuts crisps and snacks available as well as a coffee machine. There were also internet points and I personally found Wi FI worked well in there although I couldn't get a connection elsewhere in the hotel. The in room mini bar was well stocked with spirits, cava, wines beers and soft drinks. We also had a coffee machine in the room with lots of pods. Also a box of peanuts. These were replenished daily as required. Bathroom products were Clarins which was great. We also had a free safe. All staff we met were lovely and service was very good. The piano bar was always busy but there was entertainment downstairs which was a nice area and the entertainment was good. We also had free unlimited spa access which was great at this time of year. We went in the lower level pool which was cold but fine once we were in. We enjoyed walking along the cliff to Puerto Del Carmen although the hotel runs a courtesy bus. We also walked to Playa Quemada. I would certainly return. The normal All Inclusive offered branded drinks so it is a personal choice whether you feel the upgrade is worth it.

Lovely hotel, reception team very efficient, caring and nothing too much trouble.
Our room was on the 4th floor with lovely view of the Ocean. Room was spotlessly clean, nice and fresh bedding. Our cleaner came in every day and made up our
room, clean towels whenever we asked for them and bedding changed once whilst there. The hotel and general areas were kept immaculate.
We went half board, plenty of choice at breakfast - the staff making the eggs etc on the hot counter were so busy but always ready with a smie. Lots of fresh fruit, yoghurt and bread. The evening meal, again plenty of choice and the waiting staff worked extremely hard to get tables cleaned, bring drinks - again with a smile.
The entertainment team were always planning lots of activities for people (and children). We saw one of their shows and it was very enjoyable.
Alway plenty of sunbeds (although there always the crowd that had to sit in there same place and put towels down as soon as they could.
Overall a lovely relaxing holiday in a beautiful setting.
If I could mention one negative it was that plates in dining hall were not warmed and food could have been hotter otherwise I would have scored this hotel as a 5!!

We recently spent 2 nights here to celebrate our anniversary. All questions prior to our arrival were well handled by Yolanda, who also checked us in and out in a friendly, professional manner. We stayed in a Select Suite on the ultra all inclusive plan (well worth the additional cost). The suite was lovely, spacious balcony with good furniture and sea view
All meals were buffet style because of low occupancy, but there was a good choice of items to suit most tastes. The piano bar was a good place to sit and relax before and after dinner. Included in our plan was access to the spa and pools (great heated pool), which was a welcome addition as the outdoor pools were a bit too cold to swim in as the weather wasn’t kind
The hotel was very clean throughout and we would certainly return for another visit

We arrived on a sunny afternoon for one week, we had booked a select room with sea view, the room itself was a bit of a strange layout, there was no handbasin in the wc and when was sat on the wc your feet were touching the door as it was so tiny, the shower was dangerous as it had a plastic shower tray which was very slippery and the water did not drain away very well hence it wet the floor outside the door, bearing these rooms were supposed to have been refurbished i they need a rethink.
At night the rooms were cold and there was no facility on the air con for heat.
The food was ok but nothing special, the hotel is situated overlooking a marina which 5 mins walk from the hotel and it was a pleasant place for a coffee or drink and few assorted shops to browse but that was it there is nothing around the hotel to walk to everything is a bus or cab ride although the hotel does provide a free shuttle bus to certain places nearby, the hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful if needed, there was one saving grace for the hotel was it's fantastic entertainment team who put on some great shows in the showbar

Dear Mr. Q9123Oljohnm, thank you for taking your time on Tripadvisor to reflect about your stay in Costa Calero Thalasso and Spa. We are more than happy to hear that you had fantastic entertainment with our animation team during the night shows and thank you for kind words to our staff whom you found helpful and pleasant. Let us comment that all of the Select rooms are designed in a way that the hand basins - two of them for your convenience - are allocated in the area right next to WC and shower - the wardrobe area. We are sorry if you had experienced technical inconveniences - we kindly ask clients to inform about any technicalities during their stay to provide us with the possibility to amend their experience as soon as possible, while they are still at the hotel. Thank you once again for your time and kind words, your comments are a great value for our future development. We hope to welcome you back to our small exclusive marina of Puerto Calero to enjoy the sun, picturesque vulcanic nature, endless hiking routes and tranquillity away from the touristic buzz. Have a wonderful day. Kind regards, Hotel Costa Calero Thalasso and Spa team.

+1
This is the first time of visiting this hotel and it certainly wont be the last! The hotel itself is well maintained and the location is good being a steep 5 minute walk to the marina.
The room we had for 3 adults was plenty big enough with a proper bed for the third person .there is no kettle or iron in the room but having read reviews before we came, we brought our own
The food is plentiful and both Christmas and new year gala meals were amazing
The entertainment team work so hard and are probably the best we have come across
All the staff in the hotel work so hard to make our holidays stress free
I can see why others return to this hotel, it is not something I would normally do but I am already thinking of returning in the summer for a milestone birthday
My only negatives would be that the pools were freezing and they were not being used which was such a shame and also some music around the pool area would have been nice
Thank you so much for a great holiday - feliz Anos Nuevo

I stayed in this hotel 6 years ago and it was truly awesome as reflected in my review at the time.
In the craziness of the pandemic world we opted for a much needed Christmas holiday in the sun and based on my previous trip Hotel Costa Calero was an obvious venue.
The weather is still great, the marina is beautiful with some lovely bars and restaurants. Hotel Costa Calero is still clean and has had a facelift with well equipped rooms and several U.K. TV channels available.
We paid the Prestige upgrade (an extra £500) which meant we had a coffee machine, minbar (replenished daily), Clarins toiletries, use of the safe and deposit free towels. There is also a Prestige lounge and a Prestige sunbed area, both of which don’t offer any real tangible benefit to your stay and the on site wifi is worthless.
The main benefit was access to upgraded alcoholic drinks which is where things started to go wrong and where an education in what is acceptable customer service is much needed.
We were constantly fobbed off when ordering the premium wines using all sorts of excuses and were even expected to leave the restaurant and source a bottle from the piano bar to enjoy with our meal, to leave the entertainment bar to find a bottle elsewhere and bring back to watch the shows. Over a period of 9 days we only managed to easily get what we ordered twice and what was particularly sad was the attitude of the bar staff in delivering the message, they just could not care less and we were made to feel like an inconvenience.
The room was serviced and cleaned daily, cleanliness was never an issue but on several occasions we had to chase up the toiletries and minibar refresh which is all part of the Prestige service we had already paid for.
When staying at a 4 star hotel the last thing I expect is cold food, this is a regular occurrence at Costa Calero, be prepared to plate your food up from the hot buffet and then pop it in the microwave to make it edible.
I had a conversation with Ivan the Customer services manager who promised he would take the matters we covered seriously and discuss with the hotel manager, he would then call me to discuss their thoughts.
That call never happened and reinforces my understanding of the approach to customer service is not taken seriously at any level by this hotel.
On our final night what looked on paper to be a lovely meal turned out to be lukewarm and in need of a microwave.
The one exception to this widespread lack of service is a fabulous waiter called Mohamed who we encountered for our penultimate night, maybe he should have a much more senior role and whip this place back in to shape.
At least the weather was fabulous.

Was a bit unsure after reading bad reviews up to are arrival
However when arriving at hotel first impression was Wow when entering, reception staff were so helpful giving us a map pointing out our room location and all the restaurant/bars times , we were even given an upgraded room to select room 455 , beautiful room with view over pool , super king very comfortable bed and beautiful bathroom with walk in waterfall shower,
The hotel is undergoing renovation and we were so lucky to be in a renovated room as some of the rooms on the lower floors looked very dark and needed updating .
pools and gardens very well kept so clean and staff all friendly , food was plentiful and varied , drinks were branded and bar staff always around to take your order
( great staff in the piano bar )
Entertainment typical of AL hotel spent most nights in piano bar we visited the marina for drinks and food a few nights, the bbq steakhouse was yummy and the top deck had a great atmosphere
Noticed most negative comments were about prestige package , this I can understand, as the sunbathing area was small and away from the pools and bars , the lounge was small balcony area. we only noticed a few people actually using it , the dining was a Separate area in main dining room, yes you get mini bar/coffee maker in room access to spa , and superior branded drinks package.
If you want more than a 4* hotel experience why pay the extra €27 a day just book a 5* hotel
Hotel should concentrate on giving ALL there guest the same experience.
Overall a great holiday and will definitely recommend and return
thank you Costa calaro for a great holiday.

We have been visiting this hotel since 2009 and we really like it, love the situation as it is such a lovely area and very quiet, although we did speak to a few couples that thought it was too quiet. We upgraded to the prestige and thought it well worth the money, younger clarins products in your room, replenished when needed, a stocked fridge, with cans of cola and fanta and gin, bacardi and whiskey, you also have a nespresso machine, on the prestige package you have daily access to the spa and unlimited access to the new privilege lounge that has every alcoholic drink you could ask for and sandwiches, cakes, nuts and crisps. You also have a privilege seating area in the restaurant that serves you freshly squeezed orange juice, we found the food to be good and warm so we had no complaints

We visited Hotel Costa Calero for 7 nights from 9th November to 16th November, which was a welcome break from the challenges of the last 20 months. This was our first visit to Puerto Calero and our initial impression was that it was an impressive hotel with pleasant and helpful staff. After a week we still felt the same.
The hotel has sections that are marked for ‘prestige plus’ so be aware that you can’t just sit/lay anywhere. There was plenty of space though as the hotel was not at all crowded.
We had requested a prestige double room with sea view and allocated room 446. My advice is that it is worth the upgrade for the space and view.
We had full board all-inclusive which entitled us to non-branded drinks as well as food, be aware that the alcohol drinks seem to be not full/expected strength although the beer seemed ok, you can purchase well known branded soft drinks, wines and spirits etc at the bar/restaurant though if you prefer.
The food was good with plenty of choice although, as a few others reviewers have said, some of my hot dishes didn’t keep hot under the heat lamps. Our advice is to go for the freshly cooked meat or fish to reduce the likelihood that your food will be cold.
The Spa is a joy and is a must to visit. The only downside is the need to wear a yellow swim cap, which I did even though I have no hair!
When it was time to leave, we had to have a LFT which was organised through the hotel. The cost of 30 euros was acceptable and we had email confirmation of the result the afternoon of the day we took the test.
Overall, we felt extremely safe at the hotel in respect of Covid. Everyone was careful, wearing masks when needed and hand sanitisers readily accessible. This provided peace of mind and along with the service and great facilities made it a great holiday.

I have reviewed this excellent hotel previously. It is still as good as ever in every respect.
I felt I had to post an update. Since our visit in May last year the Hotel has changed many aspects of its service in terms of recycling, waste management and achieving carbon neutrality.
Gone are all plastic bottles, plastic takeaway drinking cups, plastic stirrers, straws and spoons. Now replaced with recyclable/reusable glass bottles, reusable cups and plastic glasses and recyclable cardboard cups and wooden spoon/stirrers. Gone also are foil wrapped butter and spreads. They are now also building an underground surface water recycling facility.
They have obviously had a carbon neutrality audit carried out and have responded magnificently. Well done to everyone involved.

Sorry, I was in Prestige so the room safe was included in the amenities. Best to contact the hotel directly. Enjoy your holiday. Regards
I requested to upgrade from all inclusive to prestige and was told, €35 per day, per person. Don’t know about half board to all incl. worth emailing the hotel.
Sorry not sure. Best to email the hotel direct who will be able to advise.😎
The good thing about this hotel is they allow you to take your drinks anywhere in the hotel or to your room. You can even take a bottle of Carva to your room. 😎
Not Iberostar anymore. Privately owned hotel.
