Pros: location (near the castle, cafes, and bars), cleanliness, some front desk personnel, value, pilgrim friendly Cons: old school hotel (keep expectations in check), very simple rooms, restaurant service horrible, front desk manager not so nice The hotel is extremely well situated and ended up extending my stay for a couple extra days (I got sick while walking on the... El Castillo is well placed for the Camino and for sightseeing in the old district. Our room was a good size, as was the bathroom and was clean. We overlooked the main road but the double glazed windows meant that this wasn't a problem. The only disappointment was the breakfast, served in the bar, consisting mainly of pastries and cakes.... I stayed here one night during my last walk on the Camino. Overall the hotel is centrally located and is adjacent to some of the main attractions in Ponferrada including the Castle, Plaza etc. The room was clean, and sizable as was the bathroom. However, the bathroom didn't have any hooks where you could hang your clothes. I had breakfast... More

Old style hotel. very helpful staff , secure parking for cycles available. Food is available from local bar and restaurant. Breakfast is not that great. Large room and facilities. Need renovation. On route to Santiago, so suitable for Camino travelers.

I am writing this review because of the strange breakfast experience we had that needs management attention. We stayed in Ponferrada for 2 nights while walking Camino Frances.....we are still walking. The hotel was reserved for us by our travel agency. As pointed out in all the reviews, it is well situated, clean and a great place. We had drinks... More

We stayed here for the Knights Templar Festival. Perfect location for the castle and old town. Very clean and modern. Our room was cleaned everyday. Pleasant staff and good price. We will be back again next year. Only downside for us was the poor breakfast, although included in the room price, it could be much better.

Location wise this is fantastic, being a 2 minute stroll from the castle. Check is was efficient, although the check-in times advertised on the walls of reception differed from those advised when booking through booking.com (3pm according to the posters) There was a slight misunderstanding about motorbike parking, because there are 4 spaces within the secure car park, but if... This is where we started our Camino. The location was wonderful and about a mile walk from the train station. The beds comfortable but dual twin. The staff friendly. The red hallway walls a bit odd. For some reason they would only serve dinner indoors so definitely walk into old town for dinner.

We had a short walk from Molinaseca, although we did come the longer way. After inspecting the castle we returned to the hotel to check in. we were rather early but the lovely lady on the front counter was not at all fazed and changed our room to a room that was ready. The room was perfect for our one... More

A nice, very clean and nicely appointed hotel right on the Camino. Rooms are quiet and clean. Front desk staff were very helpful and friendly. .2 even spoke English. Proximity to the Templar Castle is great and a block or so away is a nice square with several restaurants. Also there is a handy convenience store across the street. Free... More
