The location is the prime reason to go here. It is literally right at the beginning of the boardwalk. My wife and I love riding our bikes on the boardwalk. It's only a few miles from the aquarium and anything you'd like to do in Virginia Beach.
This hotel is not a resort. They are not on the beach. The staff were very friendly! However we chose to check out the same night. It just wasn't what we expected. I would not choose to stay here again.
Complaint: Hotel refuses to honor the reservations I made on November 3, 2022 *Reservations were for April 28-30, 2023. Details: On November 3, 2022, I reserved 3 rooms at the Ocean Key Resort. Each room was PAID FOR IN ADVANCE $305.91 ($917.73 total). The rooms were reserved via getaroom.com, which works with Tripadvisor. I received a message from Trip Advisor stating that my reservation was paid in full and that is was guaranteed. A few days later, I receive an email from Getaroom/Trip Advisor stating that the hotel had told them that they were sold out and they offered to give me a room 12 miles away from the oceanfront or a refund. I informed them that the hotel was not sold out at the time of my purchase. The hotel was still selling rooms on that date for over $600 per night. The Ocean Key Resort did not want to honor my rate so they sent Tripadvisor an email saying they were sold out. "SOUNDS LIKE THEY SOLD ME OUT" Why did they sell me out: Pharell is having his Something in the Water festival that same weekend. They failed to update their prices in a timely manner so they are cancelling reservations for that date. What a SCAM…
The Ocean Key Resort was located across the street from the beach. The view from our balcony was very relaxing after a long drive. Walking the boardwalk was very nice and there were a few restaurants and gift shops open(it was off season). There were other places to eat within walking distance. The staff was very friendly and check in and out were easy. Our room was very nice with everything we needed. The only negative would be the street noise can be heard but it is a trade off with the view and the sound of the waves.
Unit is very small however it is very close to restaurants, shops and the boardwalk. Resort was clean and had an indoor pool and hot tub. We are not an VSA owner but rented through RCI so we had a unit that overlooked a parking lot.
We enjoyed the location but the cleanliness and maintenance of this facilty need attention. We were given a unit with a floor that did not appear to have been swept, so we were given another unit. I found a broom and swept much dirt from the floor, cold air return, corners, etc. The floor needed to be scrubbed, curtains were off the track, there was no coffee maker as advertised, the tub faucet needed to be replaced as it was nearly impossible to turn on the shower, and drawers were too dirty to be used. After the second night that I killed German roaches in the living room and kitchen, a maintenance man said he would see what he could do but never returned. We checked out a day early. I have given positive reviews for other facilities but this is my first negative review. I'm sure the pandemic hurt their busoiness and they seem to be very behind in upkeep. …
Resort gets a 4-star for location only. It is right across the street from the boardwalk on 6th ave. The weather was absolutely beautiful, high 70s. The resort is not an RCI resort. we asked for an upgrade from a 1 bedroom to 2 and were told for upgrades it is $50 a night. They do use the space to cram in what you need. The kitchen is a hallway with no counter space. However, there was a refrigator, stove, dishwasher, sink, and microwave that had conventional bake or roast options. Guest washer/dryer, but no complimentary laundry soap. I would stay here again for the location.
Large Studio was ok but the "mini" kitchen was tight. Furniture not very comfortable but bed was ok. Indoor pool & hot tub were nice. Parking garage is terrible. If you don't want to walk further for a flat space you have to take two spaces in order to not get a door ding from another card or open your door because of the many posts. Great location 1/2 block off the boardwalk/beach. Sunnyside Cafe 1 block away was great for breakfast.
The staff was very friendly, they fixed the hot tub in less than 24 hours, clean, new floors... an overall absolute wonderful place to stay. I would recommend this place to anyone and to all. We were visiting our son who is in the Navy so this was a great place for us to convene and spend family time together.
The resort (if you can it that) is dated and not very clean. When I checked they took my credit card for incidentals, but they also charged me a cleaning fee without notifying me. The room was dark and nothing like the pictures online. I will not visit this resort again.
