Jim, the innkeeper, was an absolute delight and very welcoming. He made us feel right at home the minute we got there. The house is full of history and stories, and Jim had a wealth of knowledge about the whole area. The porch faced an amazing view of the Strait and the mountains. It was so peaceful to swing out...

We recently spent three nights at the Commander's Beach House. We were a bit apprehensive at first as we usually stay in hotels, but we really enjoyed our stay! Jim and Gail were very warm and welcoming. They have created a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere in their house by the sea. The bed was very comfortable, and the breakfasts were delicious....

When the front door opened and we were greeted before we even made it to the front porch, I know we were in for a special weekend. The views from the porch, living room, and our bedroom of the water and distant mountains were amazing. Each morning we awoke and watched the beautiful sunrise and the changing colors of the...

Jim and Gail are wonderful hosts. The setting is ideal, and the weather for our two day stay couldn't have been better. Beautiful sunsets from the porch. Clear nights from this location were perfect for star gazing. Take the cushion and a blanket from the porch and watch the sun come up, as we did, from the wooden swing not...

Called the day before and got a room. Check their website; there was a huge discount available. Jim and Gail were welcoming and unobtrusive hosts. Sunset and evening views over the straits and to the East were beautiful; very comfortable bed and quiet sitting room downstairs. Lots of curiosities to look at and enjoy. Only downside is common to most...

So it was getting late, didn't want to drive home in the rain. Happened to see a Vacancy sign. Found out there was a vacancy and we decided to stay. Very happy we found them. Wonderful old home on the beach. Walking distance to downtown Port Townsend. The room was very nice. Great views. Breakfast was excellent. Very quiet at...

We enjoyed our two days at the Beach House. We planed to drive up to the park, however just ended up staying in town and enjoying walking around the main street. Gail and Jim are very hospitable and breakfast was very nice, including the coffee. It is the best view in town!

What a spectacular location these folks have: views views views of the water, and a perfect, short walk into downtown. Jim and Gail are gracious and low-key, and they set exactly the right vibe for either the road-weary sojourner or the percolating enthusiast. Their dog is pretty cute, too.

This past year we had our wedding at the Commander’s Beach House and it was the most wonderful and magical event. The owner’s Jim and Gail were absolutely fabulous. Not only were they super easy to work with they made sure their beautiful bed and breakfast was ready for our event. Situated right by the beach with the beautiful grounds...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Commander's Beach House is the only bed and breakfast that is located right on the water in downtown Port Townsend. You can walk on the beach to Fort Worden or easily stroll three blocks along the water front to all of the downtown shops and restaurants. Three of our rooms face the water and have private baths. Our fourth room faces the garden and has a shared bath located inside of the room. You can enjoy views of Admiralty Inlet, Mt. Baker, Whidbey Island, all of the boats and ships that go into Seattle, as well as vintage wooden schooners and yawls. Eagles, herons, otters and seals are frequently seen by our guests. A full sit down gourmet breakfast is served at individual tables or on our veranda, weather permitting. Come fall asleep lulled by the sounds of the sea and "relax and solve nothing"! ... more   less
