Clean rooms and comfortable. Don’t offer maid service currently due to Covid but will switch out linens upon request. Beautiful views from lodge and friendly staff. Full service restaurant and bar. Indoor pool too. Coffee in room substandard but you can buy a cup of “to go” in the restaurant. Don’t bother with buffet breakfast. Plates were cold which means food cooled before you could eat it as the warming trays were not very hot that contained hot foods. Eggs were cold as were the waffles. Ugh Go into Davis for a great breakfast

I stayed here two nights recently to hike the surrounding trails and also visit Blackwater Falls. I visited the resort grounds a few months ago but stayed at the Billy Motel, which proved to be not my thing...paper thin walls, no desk and just a little too hipster for me when I'm looking to decompress and enjoy nature. With this in mind, I decided to check out Canaan and booked a ground floor room with balcony. A higher price point, but I'm more than happy to support a state park. West Virginia has by far the best state park accommodations I've ever experienced and this is no exception. Really pleasant check-in and my room was very comfortable...and quiet. Best was hanging out on my balcony in the morning with coffee to watch the mist rise and late afternoon when several deer grazed within a foot or two of me. The resort is surrounded by many well-marked trails of varying lengths, so it's stress-free in a really beautiful area of the state, no navigation necessary which is a nice break from neighboring Dolly Sods (which is also easy to get to from this location). Good for trail running. I especially enjoyed the Rail Grade Trail and spent about an hour reading on a small bridge adjacent to the bogs. Many great spots to hangout outdoors in peace. The restaurant staff are great and food good, though I do wish they had a locally-themed menu to showcase West Virginia and support local businesses. for coffee addicts, it's also nice to have a coffeeshop onsite. The resort also seems to organize a lot of activities, which is nice for some. I'll probably checkout their next walk between the parks which includes a shuttle to Blackwater Falls and a guided walk back.

We stayed at this property for one night on our recent road trip. The check-in process was a bit chaotic as the clerk did not seem to know the system, but he managed through it. Our room was very clean, comfortable, and quiet. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast in the dining room and also enjoyed walking around the grounds of the resort. Even though we did not need them, there appeared to be a lot of outdoor activities that were available for guests.

My family of 5 stayed in the lodge earlier this month. The lodge, itself, is bright and clean. On check-in, we were told our room was downstairs and that the elevator was not working. We were thus instructed to carry our luggage and belongings down a substantial staircase (no apology, no offer of staff assistance). The check-in clerk was less than friendly and did not give any orientation to the facility upon arrival. Our room was downstairs, sort-of below ground level, so there was no view or terrace, although I believe other rooms had nice views and balconies. The room was clean with two queen beds and a pull-out sofa as well as a small kitchenette area that was nice. A small, irksome thing happened after we arrived: I went to use a soda vending machine in the hallway that accepted credit card. The machine took my card and charged $2.60, but did not give the soda. I went to the front desk to request assistance and was directed to the indoor pool attendant who "handles the soda refunds." The pool attendant, however, refused to refund my money. He insisted that the machine sensor would realize it had not dispensed a soda and the charge would not appear on my credit statement. Okay, sure. He told me to check my credit statement the next day and, if I was charged, to come back. Okay, fine, got it. I then used my credit card (right, stupid me) to buy two more Pepsis at the vending machine outside the pool. My card was accepted and charged, but only one soda was dispensed. I didn't bother to go back to the pool guy because I knew what he would say. The next day, I checked my credit statement, and the charges were still "pending." I wouldn't have bothered to go back to the pool attendant, but I happened to be using the exercise room, so I told him the charges were still pending for the sodas I never received. He told me to check again in a few days (even though I'd no longer be at the hotel). Needless to say, a few days later, I saw that I was indeed charged for the sodas I never received. It is a stupid, small thing, but it annoyed me. I understand that the Pepsi machines are third party vendor property, but the hotel should take care of its guests, then deal with the Pepsi distributor. And the pool guy seemed to have way too much power. Anyway, that was the general feeling about the staff. Unhelpful and unfriendly. Also, there is basically nowhere to eat unless you use the lodge dining rooms. The "Hickory Room" has basic continental fare, but a long wait line given the lack of alternative dining venues. The lounge has (bad) pizza, burgers, and a pulled-pork sandwich. Oh, and it is understaffed. There are restaurants in the town of Davis, which is a 20-25 min drive. Across from the check-in desk, there is a small coffee shop. We went in to get coffee one morning about 10AM, waiting at the counter, but no staff in sight. We ultimately just walked out. Then, my husband handled the hotel check-out. When he met me at the car, he said, "those were some majorly unfriendly people." Funny, we hadn't discussed it, but we both had the same impressions. So, overall opinion: a decent, clean lodge but without any feel-good vibe.

The rooms were very clean. They have both an outdoor and indoor pool. All of the staff was very friendly and helpful. Beds were comfy. They have a little arcade, a workout room, many conference rooms and a dining room as well.
