My brother, sister and I stayed at GringoWasi for a week and went on several tours with both Lyle and Lily. We had a fantastic time! We appreciate the hospitality and local knowledge they provide. Their personal touch makes the experience far superior to staying at a hotel. I highly recommend them for any trip to the Cusco region.

I spent four blissful nights at Gringo Wasi. It, and Huarocondo, was exactly what I was looking for. (Do check out their website; it is thorough and accurate.) But I have a hard time imagining who this B&B and its hosts wouldn’t be perfect for. I wanted to experience a small, rural Peruvian town and I did, wandering the streets...

We stayed at Gringo Wasi during recent visit to Machu Picchu 1st week in April 2017. Traveled with husband and two teen age kids (15 and 16). I reserved the private room which I absolutely loved! The town is very small and quiet. It is about a 20-30 minute drive from Cuzco. The only downfall from staying outside of Cuzco...

I spent a total of 5 nights staying with Lyle & Lily in the small Andean town of Huarocondo. They are the only hospedaje in town so this gringa got plenty of warm and friendly hospitality from the curious locals, whilst Lyle and Lily do a great job at providing a home from home, and provide a range of tours...

We stayed with Lily and Lyle for 2 weeks. Their accommodation is a home from home and they make you feel part of their family. They offer you a good old fashioned service where what you want is their priority. We ate our evening meals with Lily and Lyle as well as breakfast. The evening meals are mainly Peruvian in...

Lyle was amazingly helpful both during our stay and many months prior to. He helped with our planning and arranged tours but unfortunately due to a strike the roads were impassable so we had to forfeit our tour with him but he did everything possible to ensure we were safe. Finally he was able to pick us up and take...

Thanks guys, I was happy to help with the planning and sad that all did not go as planned. While not common we do tend to get 3 or 4 strikes a year here in the region and you just happened to be here for one of them which can really mess up travel. The biggest down side of the...

I recently visited Lima, Peru. A friend there helped me book my trip to Machu Picchu and GringoWasi stood out. I was looking just for a place to stay where it was convenient to catch the train to Machu Picchu. Before I flew in, Lyle from GringoWasi, sent me a detailed email on where to go when I land in...

My family had an amazing 5 night stay at GringoWasi in July (2016). Our group included myself, my adult son and his wife and my 2 grandchildren ages 6 and 8. I selected this B&B because I wanted a smaller place with fewer guest to be potentially impacted by 2 energy filled children. This place was perfect. Lyle and Lilly...

I just spent the weekend at Lyle and Lily's B&B and it was exactly what I was looking for...a quiet getaway from busy Cusco and the tourist scene. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
GringoWasi is set in a truly typical Andean village, just 30 minutes outside of Cusco, which as yet, has not been influenced by tourism. In our town of Huarocondo life goes on much as it has for the last 100 years, family's take their animals out to the fields in the morning and bring them back in in the evening, many of the locals still cook over wood fires, and many of the fields are still plowed by pulling wooden plows with bulls, or even by hand. In the spring you will see fields being planted and in the fall it is harvest time, festivals are also common and are held to celebrate life and to pay respect to the various Saints and Virgins, and not to impress the tourists. The people of Huarocondo are also very friendly, being a small community everyone knows everyone else and even our guests are considered to be part of the community while they are here, on one occasion we even had a couple report that they were invited into a wedding reception and fed lunch, even though they were foreigners. We have had guests join locals in doing their daily duties like separating Quinoa from the chaff and we are still close enough to many of the archeological sites to be a convenient home base to explore the area. We work with a local tour agency and several drivers so we can easily arrange tours, either group or private and our area offers a variety of trails and roads to hike. Hikes in the area can range from easy and flat to all uphill, and there are even a few archeological sites you can hike to. So if you are looking for a truly unspoiled local town to use as a home base, as a place to acclimate before doing a trek, or just to relax and unwind after a trek, this is the place. You won't find any tourist items here, no souvenir stands or shops, just local stores and shops selling what the people of Huarocondo need. Currently we are the only lodging available in Huarocondo and with only 5 rooms, we have created little impact on the local community, as such everything you will experience here is truly authentic, add to this the picturesque scenery and the quiet evenings and it is the perfect place to call home while visiting the Cusco region. So book now, come and experience true local Andean life and join our ever expanding family, which currently encompasses 50 countries. We look forward to meeting you soon. ... more   less
