Stayed for just one night in November on business. Nothing was too much trouble for Chris and his team and the price of bar snacks and beers, made an incredibly refreshing change. Too often I feel as though I've been ripped off, but at the Old Rectory, all was great value!

I've lost count of how many times we've stayed at this delightful and quintessentially English establishment. Traditional with high values and superb quality. Good location, warm welcome, excellent dining with pre dinner drinks by the roaring fire, completed by a perfect breakfast to suite your needs made from local high quality produce. The owners are dedicated to their business and...

I stayed here for four nights and it was probably one of my best four nights away from home on business. I stayed with some colleagues and the welcome and attention we had from Chris and his staff was amazing. The bedrooms are so comfortable that I didn't really want to leave each morning. The bathroom was well appointed -...

Staying over near Norwich? The Old Rectory offers, comfort, style and superb food. The friendly but not overbearing owners have created a first class venue here. The bedrooms are large and well appointed. The lounge is comfortable and inviting but best of all was the outstanding quality of the food - absolutely top drawer. We will return.

We stayed in the upstairs bedroom with a large balcony overlooking the grounds facing the road. There was no noise bother from the road, and just a quick crossing of the street brings you to a very pretty canal perfect for a walk or park bench sitting. Also, some nice pubs that are very close. Other reviewers have said it...

Room was spacious, very comfortable, and had all amenities you could want/need. All meals were...

Easily the best quality hotel and meal in Norwich. I've stayed in Norwich for business for around 4 years, many a bad and expensive hotel has been used. The Old Rectory was a find a year ago and I've been here a number of times. It is a rare find, a class bed and breakfast in a substantial house. Each...

We've had a two night stay and one evening meal and I can't fault anything. All the staff go out of their way to provide a pleasant stay. Our evening meal was for seven guests and it was one the best I've ever tasted. It was a belated birthday celebration and Chris even let us consume our own champagne for...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Old Rectory, Norwich's only AA 4* Gold 'Restaurant with Rooms' is a beautiful Georgian House, with adjoining Victorian Coach House, standing in an acre of mature secluded gardens on the eastern fringes of Norwich, overlooking the Yare valley and Thorpe Marshes nature reserve . We offer warm hospitality and friendly service in a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Every morning, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast, cooked to order and served to your table. Our menu features local sausages, bacon, ham and eggs, Chef's own toasted muesli, thick yoghurt with home-made fruit compote, and thick cut toast. Our Dining Room is open Tuesday to Saturday evenings (closed Sunday / Monday), with a daily changing 2 AA Rosette menu featuring freshly prepared, locally sourced, seasonal produce. The elegant intimate, Georgian panelled room has just six tables so be sure to book dinner in advance as we regret we cannot guarantee availability of a table, nor a particular time, where dinner reservations have not been made prior to arrival. The Old Rectory is 2 miles from Norwich railway station (services to London, Cambridge, the Norfolk Coast and intermediate stations) and the city centre with its Norman Castle and Cathedral, medieval churches, excellent shopping facilities and open air market. Norwich International Airport (flights to Manchester, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and international flights via the KLM hub at Amsterdam Schipol) is 5 miles. The Norfolk Broads National Park and the sandy beaches of the east coast are a short drive, and many historic houses, nature reserves, gardens etc are within easy reach. ... more   less
