Our stay was OK. There was indeed air conditioning, but it was so full of cobwebs that I was afraid to turn it on. We opted to leave the window open instead. The bed was surprisingly comfortable. We did not have WIFI, but I didn't walk back to the office to ask about it. I'm sure I could have inquired. The view is beautiful, and there is a nice firepit. There are also tables outside to sit at in the morning to look over the lake while you have your coffee. Nice little town to walk around, and friendly people. The owner was very nice at check in. Love the "welcome to Phelps, set your clock back 20 years" sign. Very appropriate! The fridge in our room was bigger than most you would find in a motel, and kept things nice and cold!!
Planned a trip to the north woods but couldn't find a place to stay so . . . here we were. I would describe it as a "guy" kind of place. Ya know . . . where the guys come to fish, atv, or snowmobile and not concerned about luxury. The lights were very dim. The shower was so dark it was scary. The towels smelled moldy and the pillows were flat. But, we stuck it out for 2 nights. The owner was very pleasant and offered recommendations for traveling around the area.
Probably a motel reminding you of 20 years ago. Has two beds in most rooms. About a 12 room motel. Has refrigerator, stove, shower, tub, coffee pot. Good location for fishers, snow mobilers, families and very inexpensive. Around $69 a night. Location spectacular. Friendly owners.
Very clean, quiet, well kept, comfortable room, a cozy bed, lots of hot water, refrigerator, coffee pot, small kitchenette, Nice owners, Close to snowmobile trail's with plenty of groomed trails, Lots of good places to eat within a 10 minute drive
This place was a great find. It's built into a hillside overlooking North Twin Lake. Other people staying there told us the fishing was good but we were more excited about seeing so many stars at night, seeing bald eagles circling the water, and hearing loons - all from the doorway of our room! Very clean, quiet, well kept, comfortable room (my husband and I were in #5). There was a funny sign "You're in Phelps. Set your watch back 20 years" :) But really the only creature comfort I missed was cell reception (and that's just a Vilas County thing). I also loved that there was a fire pit so we could roast marshmallows. I got all the nature, relaxation, and privacy of a camping trip, only at the end of the night I got to take a shower, climb into a cozy bed, and watch TV!
