I have been going to the TX for a few years now and I will continue to go every year. If you want to get a proper ranch experience without the frills then you will love this. Even if you've never risen before don't let that put you off, You will start on a quiet, slow horse then progress as... More

I went alone to TX last July and was made to feel welcome from the second I met the other guests at the hotel!! The next 2 weeks were amazing from day long cattle drives, branding the calves and moving camps to driving the horses oh my god it was sooooo much fun! Winding down the day with a beer... More

Like others have said, it doesnt get any more authentic than this. Hip and his crew will let you experience what the real West was like. And thank goodness they do NOT have wifi because it lets you soak in all of the fun of talking to your fellow cowpokes. You will be riding quite a bit but even in... More

Nothing I can say will do this place any justice at all! It is basic, sometimes uncomfortable, you get filthy dirty, there is no electricity or running water and spend an average of 9/10 hours a day in the saddle working. It most certainly is not a restful vacaction but WOW! A fantastic life experience! If you are after something... More

A fantastic experience! You get a chance to work on a ranch with cattle drives, branding, roping and fantastic rides in an exrtaordinary environment. Hip and all other persons working on the ranch was really fantastic and took very good care of us. Be prepared for a week full of experience and hard work. No problem to fall asleep when... More

Lets start by saying, I'm not a tent person and all that entails with that. But it wasn't too bad at all, in fact I loved it. The tents were spacious and the 'cots' were comfortable. There is a stove in all the tents and using it wisely you go to bed warm and get up warm. Hint..use the 'fire... More

I have been to TX for the past three years. In September 2014 I took my 40 year old daughter. Her reaction was that it would never have been on her bucket list but she was coming back as soon as possible. So we are going again in 2015. The scenery is fantastic. The horses are well behaved and you... More

Once you turn off the paved road you enter a new world. You are still have about an hour of dust, cattle gates and stream crossings until the pick up truck delivers you to the camp, but the friendliness of the staff and the people you are going to spend the next with gets more intense with every mile. The... More

We signed up for a cattle drive week and we got a cattle drive week. The accommodations (canvas tents) are dry and comfortable. They have little stoves and cots. The food is EXCELLENT! Christine does an amazing job of feeding the guests different meals everyday. The schedule is rigorous but there is always opportunity to opt out if you'd like... More

Enjoyed a wonderful week on TX Ranch in late April 2014. The people there are warm, caring and jovial, and the guests come from all over the globe. Everyone who visits has gone out of their way to get there and so they tend to put a lot in to it and in turn get a lot out of it.... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
If you are looking for an authentic experience that is what the TX is all about! We ride, work and manage our livestock in old fashion traditional ways. The ranch property and cattle spread for miles across scenic open range country. This means excellent ranch riding, seasonal cattle drives and a wide variety of seasonal working cattle activities. We ride for cattle and once a herd is gathered we start working the herd by roping calves to brand, castrate, doctor or what ever is necessary during the season. This involves a break from the saddle with the doctoring of calves, throwing calves and fun team work! We welcome guest participation, we'll be happy to help show you how it's done! Please keep in mind our ranch activities are not compulsory. If you wish to take time to laze around camp or take a ride on your own your welcome to do so. We also take our suburban out to meet the herd with lunch and supplies please feel free to go with our driver if you don't want to miss out on the cattle activities. During the evening we enjoy relaxing under a mired of stars around a warm open camp fire reminiscing the day with a favorite beverage, stories, tunes or guitar. We also enjoy a good roping match, cards, cribbage or what ever it may be. The TX has over 75 saddle horses to choose from. They are used for all our necessary ranch riding, cattle drives and cattle work. My husband and daughter Hip and Desiree know the horses inside and out. We can provide a good horse for every riding level. They are gentle natured, sure footed, they know how to pick a path with ease and they'll take good care of their riders. The attached photo was taken wrangling saddle horses to the camp corrals. Our cow camps are a great experience too! They are located at original home stead sites. We will return to camp everyday. Everything is set up and provided except your personal gear. Our camp has a base log cabin. This is where excellent ranch style home cooked meals are prepared and served. we want you to feel like part of the family and one of the cowboys. Each camp has simple out buildings such as out houses /toilet and showering facility. A wash table with basins and fresh water for daily washing and fresh water is readily available in the cabin with hot and cold drink mixes, etc.We provide free Billings, MT transportation to and from the TX Ranch. Guest capacity is 18 guests per week. Please feel free to contact us with your questions.Loretta TX Ranch ... more   less
