Old tired hotel with staff with a good attitude. Loved the lady at the front desk with the flowers in her hair. The events lady Olivia was the best part. Lined me up with Poke a stick in it lava tour. Excellent. BTW, please provide wireless in the room for free, an iron and ironing board, a safe, and bedspreads...

The hotel was clean. It seemed more upscale than not. It had 2 restaurants in the hotel but they closed very early and were very expensive (compared to other local restaurants). There was only one restaurant within walking distance. Parking was free & there were an adequate number of spots. Beautiful koi pond in the front. We were gone from...

The hotel sounded ok, but when we got there it was like something out of the Seventies. The room which was a king was big but dated and lacked colour, very bland. The bed was uninviting with an old comforter on it, it looked old. I had to ask for hair dryer at front desk. We were pleased we only...

The hotel is a tour-package destination with groups moving in and out at all hours of the day and night with porters delivering and collecting the mostly metal suitcases with vigor and loud clashing - even at 4 am. Many people go to Hawai'i to see sights and experience the culture. The Hilo Hawaiian has minimal Hawaiian decor and the...

The hotel is a tower on the beach with tide pools and a Japanese garden next door. The lobby is spacious and welcoming but the rooms themselves were very dates with old bed spreads, carpet and a musty smell. This place could be beautiful if they renovate but right now I would not recommend the dirty musty rooms. The ocean...

We stayed at the hotel for one night during our visit to the big island. The hotel location is really great and grounds are just lovely. The lobby was really nice too. The room on the other hand was very outdated. I felt like we stepped back into the 1970s. The AC was very loud. No hair dryer in the...

This hotel is like 10 mins away from Hilo airport and central to all Hilo attractions. It is also one of the more reasonably-priced hotels in the area, but that's about it. It is an old hotel and you can definitely smell that distinctly old smell in the room. Parking is free which is rare in Hawaii. If you're not...

During our recent vacation to the Big Island, we took a trip from Kona to Hilo and stayed overnight at the Castle Hilo. This hotel can recommended and I was concerned when I looked it up and it was only a three star hotel. Yes...I will admit to being a hotel snob and usually only stay at 4-5 stars. Since...

We stayed three nights in January 2013. Parking was plentiful and best of all, free! Check in only took a few minutes. Hotel staff was friendly. We stayed at room 624. The room was pretty depressing because it looked so dated; it looked like a room that time forgot. Everything's old from the wallpaper to the carpet to the bedspread...
