This was our first trip to Hawaii and we spent nearly three weeks exploring the big island. Our home was Ala Kai and it was wonderful. Early mornings on the deck were peaceful, sipping coffee, watching for whales and smelling breakfast cooking in the kitchen. On special days, Mary would bake bread. We sat in the garden and tried to...

This friendly, comfortable B&B is located for easy access to the sights on the east side of the Big Island. The house is oceanfront with access to hiking trails. The owner, Mary is very nice, accommodating and a good source of local information. We were very late arriving due to a missed connection but she took good care of us....

The Ala Kai Bed and Breakfast felt like a second home for my father and I while we were on holiday on the Big Island of Hawaii. The Aloha suite provided the perfect set-up for the two of us, with two separate bedrooms and a shared bathroom with two sinks. The rooms were nicely decorated, and provided us with a...

We liked it so much, we already booked two weeks next year! Our hostess, Mary, was terrific with helpful hints and a wonderful breakfast every morning. The breakfast was provided on the lanai with a view of the ocean. The Ohana Cottage is actually a two bedroom house with all the amenities including kitchen ware, bedding, TV, wifi, etc. It...

Our hostess Mary, gave very helpful advice regarding nearby dining and activities. The Sun. a.m. farmer's market was great fun. I'm confident we chose the best botanical garden with her guidance. Our room was nicely decorated, clean, & comfortable. Breakfast offered several choices in a comfortable & scenic setting.

You really must spend a few days on this side of the Island. The Ala Kai is the perfect place to do so. Mary is an excellent host. She greeted us upon arrival and made our stay wonderful. Her breakfasts are sublime! She picks fruit from her own garden. She will give you ideas and information about the area (waterfalls,...

Ala Kai is a great B&B that served as an excellent base for traveling in the Hilo side of Hawaii. Mary is a wonderful hostess and makes a delicious and filling breakfast each day. She's also very knowledgeable about the island and is always willing to give advice and even some gear if she has it - she had some...

Great little B&B with a beautiful view of the ocean. Mary was wonderful, and her banana-stuffed French toast was amazing! As an added bonus, their business card gets you 10% off at Kaleo's restaurant in Pahoa!

Maybe it's the cocooning hammock on the lanai, or the persistent sound of the ocean's surf pummeling the lava cliffs across the street, the warm rainfall or the chorus of chirping tree frogs....It is all or part of the real meaning of Aloha. That's what defines the Ala Kai Bed & Breakfast 30 minutes south of Hilo, on the The...

Getting there is easy but a car is a must. 20 minutes from Hilo airport if traffic is good. We used our own Garmin gps as a guide and it worked a treat until we got the last road. It told us to take a right when in fact you need to take a left. On arrival we were met...
