For being advertised as a villa, the room is no more than a standard hotel room. Food was bland and basic. Drinks taste like they come from a watered down mix. Nothing resort about it other than price. The tennis equipment was worse than cheap. There is a Walmart on the island that has better equipment. The courts are parallel to the main road and power generator so it’s impossible to hear your opponent. Not fun or relaxing. Be prepared to be nickel and dimed for everything. The “owner discount” card does nothing.

We stayed in a 1 BR condo (except per the below) 1/6-12 on a “time share” (I put this in quotes since Westin doesn’t like this phrase) deal where guests receive an advantaged rate in exchange for attending a TS presentation. As an initial matter, my wife and I had to reschedule our stay several times due to both covid and personal health issues we were having, and Westin was very accommodating. We came over after 2 nights at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel, and since hotel checkout and checkin times generally aren’t well-aligned, arrived about 4 hours early. Westin offered us an immediate room, but said they’d have a better room available if we waited until the scheduled checkin time of 4, the option we chose. They said they’d text us, then we’d have a certain amount of time to come in claim it before they gave it away, potentially, to another guest. Well, we hung around all day, and no text. We finally called at 4:30 and they had no record of our prior conversation, and just offered us the room we’d turned down before noon, so we felt like we wasted our entire day for nothing. They gave us a $100 resort credit and moved us the next night, but the amount of time wasted and Westin’s initial reluctance to give us any form of recompense was disappointing. The second problem was more unique. My wife had a snorkeling accident on the Westin’s beach (note to guests: there’s lots of coral off the hotel, makes for beautiful snorkeling, but difficult ingress/egress if you’re not experienced). Westin doesn’t have medical personnel on call, but the security guard (Mike) who acted as first responder did a good job, and made a correct assessment we needed EMTs, who in turn took my wife by ambulance to Maui Memorial, where she was admitted as an inpatient (long story short, after some oxygen and pumping out her lungs, she’s fine). Anyway, it was to have been our last night, so I now needed a place to stay. While we do not have any intention to sue, we hoped that, out of hardship, Westin would comp me a room for a night while my wife was being treated. It took forever to find the right person to speak to—I was at the hospital—who then tentatively told me he thought he could do that, so I was quite surprised when he subsequently called me back and told me the best they could do was their “distress” rate—$200–better than the rack rate, but under the circumstances, rather unwelcoming. To make things worse, when I got back to the hotel, he’d made no notes of our call—are you seeing a pattern here? I sure am—so I had to go through this all over again with the desk clerk and waste another 45 minutes-hour when I was totally stressed about my wife. And to top it off, the room must have been the crummiest on the property (which I’m quite sure was not filled)! Super disappointing, and really shortsighted for people you’re trying to sell something to. All of that said, our first room was well-equipped but very dark, but the room we were moved to for the next 4 nights was much nicer, with a partial ocean view. It’s my first time staying in a condo in Hawaii in 20+ years, and especially during the time of covid, was nice having a place to cook, although disappointing that not even basic condiments and seasonings were included. 2 fitness centers are open (although that same unhelpful front desk told us only one), and they’re fine for a good, basic hour workout, although sauna and steam are closed. Pools are nice, as long as you have no expectations of actually swimming. There are numerous jacuzzis, although I wish that there was some enforcement of the posted, but seemingly unenforceable, rule of no kids under 16 in them without parents. The beach is very narrow at the hotel, but widens out as you walk toward the Sheraton. As mentioned, the snorkeling is surprisingly good (due to the close in coral and shore surge, I’d rate the snorkeling as a “blue” by skiing standards; I had no trouble with it). Unfortunately, the one good restaurant at the complex was closed, leaving basically upscale burger joints. Prices for food and drink are high-ish, although non-extortionate by HI standards, and there are pretty much no alternatives without driving elsewhere. The complex is huge and sprawling and not particularly intuitively laid out. It seemed like a majority of guests were families, with parents in their 30s-40s and younger kids, but there were families with older kids, groups of friends, groups of couples and couples from their late 20s to 70s. This would not be a place I’d recommend for singles. The hotel seems to be doing a good job dealing with covid issues in a reasonable way. All that said, if you can get one of the better 1 BR units, like the one we had for 4 nights, there are a lot worse places for beach and pool sitting, swimming, snorkeling and relaxing. I just wished the customer service hadn’t marred our experience.

We own 2 weeks here in the Vistana owner program, so our experience is based on that, not a regular booking, however, the check in process is the same. About the check in process: it is in one word, MISERABLE. I have waited as long as 2 hours in line to check into WKORV. I don’t understand it. What is the hold up? Why? What takes so long with each guest? When we got to the counter to speak to the check in staff, we were in and out in less than 5 minutes. If these guests have that many questions and that many issues, then kindly ask them to ask the concierge so others can be waited on. It is just beyond comprehension. We arrived at 7:30 p.m. and we still waited for 35 minutes. If you arrive around 2-4 p.m., like we did last time, be prepared for a lengthy time in line. It is very frustrating, especially when you have groceries that need to get in the fridge post haste with you. Please fix this, WKORV. Now, for the rest. the grounds and pool areas are just awesome. Gorgeous. The rooms are starting to show their age, however, and looking a bit dated, but still well kept. They give you soap only in the room, no body wash. they do supply conditioner and shampoo, but that is the end of the bath amenities. The kitchen has one packet of coffee and some creamer and sugar, but just enough for one day. I think you can ask for more, but we just bought our own. There is dish soap and dishwasher detergent and one round of laundry detergent. That is it for the kitchen..no salt and pepper even. The kitchen is well stocked with plate ware, silverware, pots/pans and blender. I truly do enjoy owning here and the beautiful location, but I wish they would figure out this guest check in issue.

Great holiday vacation at Westin KOR. While no place is perfect, and there were some small issues, overall it was a great vacation stay. The room was well appointed. One bedroom can room up to 5, but really is only for 4 unless you rent a roll away daily or brought a camping cot like we did. We had a first floor room which was supposed to be ocean view but we didn’t have a great view of ocean. However, the lush greenery was beautiful and we were fine with that. The front desk gal, I wish I would have gotten her name was extremely helpful. Thank you to her. She resolved a booking problem I had with Expedia. Pool chairs were comfy and they tag them if you are gone and you have an hour to untag them. They were a little skimpy on the laundry detergent so bring your own if you plan on doing more than 2 loads and don’t want to buy from them. We shopped for food but we noticed many people having Safeway delivered. Would likely do that if we stayed again. Location was 5 minutes from whalers village which has nice eating options and 10 from Lahaina. We liked the food at the pool bar as well. Beach chairs have to be rented We rented body/boogie boards for kids for a week. (55$ each) which kids loved. They could use more wait staff around the pool. But they were always friendly and apologetic about the wait. Kids 16/14/11 thought it was great.

We purchased an oceanfront timeshare from Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort North in Oct 2020. We purchased a two bedroom villa for Christmas week #51. We checked in for the first time on 12/24/21 with our family. Check in took 45 minutes which was too long after a 7 hour flight, lines at the airport due to covid then lines at the rental car, we were exhausted. We were given a ground floor room right behind the bar (Pailolo) with a view of the restrooms (see pic). We were told this room was classified as oceanfront. We contacted the front desk 5 times before a manager contacted us the next afternoon and pretty much said they could not relocate us to a better room. On Monday (three days after checking in) we contacted Vistana who sold us this oceanfront timeshare. Vistana contacted the front desk about relocating us to a better room. Later this day, we were contacted by the front desk and offered a 1 bedroom room on one side of our current room and a studio room on the other side of our current room. We declined this as we have a 6 month old baby in our party so separate rooms would not work. We also contacted owner services by email and were told we needed to put our room preferences on our reservation exactly 1 year before arriving. No one had told us this during the purchase in fact we were told that our reservation would automatically book and we did not need to fo anything. So since we bought Christmas week every year, we’ve already cancelled for 2022. I find it ironic that owners checkin on a Friday when Vistana is closed and owner services closes at 5pm and doesn’t open until Monday at. 9am. So bottom line we are not happy with our timeshare purchase but most importantly with the lack of customer service. Also how can a room hidden behind the bar facing the bathrooms be classified as oceanfront?
